  1. What is considered a heavy plastic? I t-rig with a 1/16oz lead on lizards & worms.
  2. So I've been borrowing my friends casting set up for last couple weeks to get used to Baitcasting. It's a very old shimano bantam mag on a shimano compre 6ft that is I think M/F. He has 12# Spiderwire Mono spooled on the reel. Well yesterday I was out on the lake and missed at least 5 fish because of a poor hook set. The first time I blamed myself for not being alert or jerking hard enough. Second time I blamed myself again and switched the rig of my lizard to have the hook poking right out of his back. Many times the hook wasn't even throught the plastic lizard or senko even after a huge jerk that almost throws me overboard. Eventually I put the blame on the mono. I feel like all of these fish would have been in the boat if I was using my spinning set up with 30lbs Suffix braid. But my experience with braid on the BC reel was vicious backlashes. So, is spiderwire mono just complete crap? Or does the stretch tick you off too? Is my rod not stiff enough for plastic fishing? Do I need a MH or H? Would a 7ft rod help is that arena or just casting distance? Should I try fluorocarbon? and don't tell me I'm doing it wrong! >
  3. I wish there were some of these in Tally. But what is with one pole in the water per angler? Whenever I fish I can easily be found with 3 different poles in the water...2 might be backlashed but who's counting. ;D
  4. I am probably email #100 but oh well. The bait monkey said I had to send one! Just noticed in my rush to send I sent the brand instead of color. lol. ;D
  5. this was said above but pressure treated wood is bad for the aluminum. I used thompsons water sealer aerosol and sprayed it on the wood before putting it in the boat.
  6. my cousin does this with his 14ft V-hull. He just takes a small block of 2x4 and puts it under the edge of the front while tightening down the TM. It works just fine. It gives the TM a lot of control when the 9hp motor is in the water.
  7. Good report. One day I will find you and stowaway on your boat to catch all your bass. ;D Hope Hannah doesn't give ya'll too much trouble.
  8. I fish braid for everything and I haven't seen a difference in amount of bites or anything. I fish fairly clear lakes but they also have a lot of spots of lillypads and cover. The reason I switched is because I was missing hits and I attributed it to the stretch of the mono and also because I wanted the option to rip the fish out of lillies without motoring to it.
  9. We have these in Lake Weir near Ocala, FL. They are prescribed places to dump structure. I have seen a large pontoon boat drive over to the marker and dump in about 5 christmas trees tied down with cinder blocks.
  10. haha, ok that's what I thought. Anybody have a reliable review site?
  11. How much weight should I give this review? http://reviews.cabelas.com/8815/123661/reviews.htm I find it hard to believe when I can cast a 1990's shimano BC farther and I've only taught myself in the last 2 weeks. Also is there any site you all know of that gives good reviews of rods & reels?
  12. I thought a larger GR was better for buzzbaits to help keep them on top of the water. But I am the newbie and you are the pro
  13. Avid, I probably would have been free diving too ;D The alligators freak me out, but the adrenaline of being dumped and losing a rod would of had me going down for it. Good luck getting your stuff back and at least you don't have to buy new tackle.
  14. another possible problem could be that your bait is spinning on retrieval or if you are a newbie like me you tried to troll a bait that wasn't meant for it behind the boat. The twist up the line and really makes a mess.
  15. I like the one you got now Good set up and a nice blue sky.
  16. well all the articles I read made it sound like it was the great depression and they needed food. Well if I ever caught a record I would take a million pictures with measurements. I would get as many eye witnesses as possible, and I would jump in the water and try to keep it alive for the officials. Then it would be on the way to a BPS tank and I would get a new rod and reel. ;D
  17. I am also a newbie, but I use a 7 ft Med Fast rod with a 2500 shimano spinning reel and I like to use 30lbs braid for all around bassin'
  18. I say there has to be. Off topic: Is it possible for gators to eat a lethargic large bass? What do you think? dangit I hate gators, btw
  19. There was once an organization that offered a million dollar prize if one of its members caught the world record bass. You had to pay dues to be eligible to win the million. That organization no longer exists. Without that prize, I have no idea how to turn a fish into a million dollars, but I'm sure someone will try. The current world record won George Perry about $75 from Field & Stream and a lifetime of being called a liar. Not worth it. What is the story on Perry being a liar?
  20. I have 30lbs PowerPro rigged on my Spinning reel. I used a 7 yard mono backing with a uni to uni knot and it worked great until i got lower and the knot started effecting my casts. I believe that PowerPro advises these techniques because braid can have a tendency to slip around the spool. If there is a hole to tie onto on your spool then that will prevent it from slipping. If not then you use a piece of arbor tape placed on the spool with your knot tied tightly around the spool and arbor tape. PowerPro comes with arbor tape included in the package for just this purpose.
  21. Palomar knot. I have never lost a hook using braid with this knot. I fish 30lbs PowerPro and Suffix.
  22. Welcome to the good life ;D good to meet you.
  23. I found the Citica E with a Cabelas Eage II for 169.99 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0060363123660a&type=product&cmCat=perf&rid=0180101070502&xpid=k17401&cm_ven=Performics&cm_cat=Affiliate%2Dclick&cm_pla=Nextag&cm_ite=DDI%20Link&afsrc=1 Or Citica E 119.99 and Clarus 59.99 What do you think?
