  1. Hmmm...I hope it will come in different lengths. I'd buy some 6-8" versions.
  2. Yes...that is my plastic backstock. The Plano 3.5" deep 3741's work nicely for storage, and you can squeeze 20-30bags in each. The rubbermaid tubs will hold a lot more, but you can't readily see what you are looking for, and have to dig...disturbing your organization.
  3. When your closet looks like this...
  4. +1 I actually prefer a shorter rod for topwaters and jerkbaits...6' to be exact. The 5'6" should be your topwater/jerkbait rod. Your 7'6"er will cover flippin'/Pitchin'...I'd spool it with heavy fluoro. I'd go with a 7' M, fast action rod (or a Loomis MH ). That will cover cranks, general soft plastics, throwing spinnerbaits, etc. Grab a 7' Avid if you can swing $109. Sportsmans Warehouse also has Shimano Clarus rods for $29.99 (normally $60).
  5. Snoopy here too. When you're three...the snoopy is where it's at. After that...I went to a 202. My first spinning rod was a Shimano AX100Q/Shakespeare no-name rod (spooled with omni-flex). My first real bassin' rod I bought when I was 10 or 11...time to get serious. I purchased a Quantum spinning reel (don't remember the name...it was $39...I though that was sooo much money!) and paired it with the ultimate rod at the time (drumroll)...the black foam handled Lightning Rod- 6' M. I learned how to Texas rig with it, and it changed everything. After a while, I wanted to use a baitcaster, so I would borrow my uncles lightning rod/Abu XLT plus Synchro. I would backlash the crap out of that thing. I bet he went through a lot of line because of me
  6. Don't know anyone who owns the Saros. I've read countless posts about fisherman loving the Tierra...including me.
  7. Tie between my GLX's and my 4runner that has off-roaded to ponds that many would have to hike to, driven to countless tournaments on far away lakes, and lets me easily throw my Pelican in the back. I have spent many hours (80k miles since it was new in Aug. '04) in my 'runner...and we have bonded. Michelle is my fishing buddy (Yes...my 4runner is a girl). Sne can squeeze my Pelican in the back, and just flat out takes abuse while lookin' good doing it 8-)
  8. You guys are both right...I'll add the fish usually stick VERY close to structure. I usually just grab my bulkiest blk/blue jig with a paca chunk senior (black), a colorado bladed spinnerbait, and a buzzbait if it is early. There are different levels of muddy: really dirty, muddy, chocolate milk. The first two stages will sometimes warrant a Yammamoto 8" grub or an 8" Mann's paddle tail, but in chocolate milk...I'll stick mainly to the jig or spinner.
  9. Doug Hannon is a respected guy, so a lot of people will refrain from saying...but these are on par with the flying lure or the Chuck Woolery Motolure. Actually...I'd take the flying lures over the snakes. I have read probably 50+ posts of people buying them, and not one review where an angler was successful and recommended them. I want to know ONE board elder like RW, Glenn, LBH, etc. that have actually purchased them. I don't know how you can look at the ad and actually think "Man...I can't believe no one thought of that! That's the niche in my topwater arsenal I'm missing!" Give me a G...I...M...M.......
  10. Check every setting first. I have heard about very few problems with the Revos.
  11. I use a 'Croix Legend Tournament 7'10" Mangum Cranker. Heavy power/Moderate action. Works awesome for B2's and other fat wobblers as well. I've never thrown a crank so far. Magnum Cranker + modified Lavender shad Norman Fat Boy (shaved lip). I have a TD-Z 103p on it (5.1:1), and spool 15lb CXX...once hooked, the fish don't have a chance to get anywhere . I Bill Dance'em in...
  12. Yeah...I saw the Avids for around a bill at Sportsmans Warehouse. An awesome deal that everyone should know about...they are worth $150 easy. RW recommends Loomis/Yozuri/Shimano 99% of the time...but like me, a great deal is a great deal. I am a Loomis guy myself, but bought two legend tournaments recently because they were marked down to $150. I think he is excited about the deal he got, and should be. People should be jumping all over that...we see posts all the time about which $100 rod is best...right now you can get an Avid for that.
  13. I'm a Daiwa guy, but the Shimano outperformed the Revo in this comparison, but the Shimano got docked points for its price. Now the new Revo Premier versus the 50mg would be a good shootout.
  14. There is one trade off in fishing line that technology has not overcome, and that is line softness versus stretch. I do like the BPS XPS fluoro...great line. It does have more memory than Inviz-X or Trilene Fluoro, but a little less stretch. The Trilene Fluoro is the softest I have used...It's like fishing with Trilene XL. Give it a go if the XPS is too stiff.
  15. I didn't know you could shakey head in the south . Just kidding...I saw KVD use a shakey head to catch the lake Lewisville record (now broken), but to be honest...I can count on one hand how many times I've thrown a shakey head. When the technique became hot...I bought a 'Croix Avid 6'9" drop-shot/shakey rod...and I finally blew off the dust and sold it this month. I just had to realize I'm a power fisherman. I do like the way the trickworm stands up on a spot remover...I know it works; I just haven't been in enough situations to utilize it myself
  16. From the JBS (Viscious brand) website "Dora, Alabama --- JBS Fishing Line, of Pell City, Alabama announced this week that they are branding a new line-up of premium fishing products under the trade name "Vicious". JBS Fishing Line started in the fishing line business over 33 years ago spooling line for DuPont." Sounds like they did spool for Stren at one time...it is possible they still do, but obviously pure fishing owns the Stren brand now, but JBS may still spool for them.
  17. Stren is owned by pure fishing. The new Berkley Trilene Fluoro and the new Stren Fluoro were released at the same time, have the same diameter/look/feel. I'd bet my marbles they are the same line. http://www.purefishing.com/menu.cfm?CFID=2730350&CFTOKEN=35bf58a55de60e11-C553C0A8-AEC0-8309-8E3867C84261C3C7
  18. It's definitely a crankbait rod, and if it will handle B2's I may buy one...you can't argue for a high-end looking light weight split-grip for $150.
  19. Weird review... 9.00 vs. 9.08 for the Calais, but the Calais didn't get any deduction for being a brick. 9.1ozs!?
  20. I am happy and ticked about the Tierra's paint job. I agree with LBH...it is indestructable- you literally can't scratch it, and I don't even put it in a reel cover anymore. I'm ticked because my TD-Z's are a reel 3x's as expensive, with a matte metallic paint job, just a different color. The paint on the TD-Z's scratch if you look at them wrong. The Tierra's paint is the most durable of any reel I have owned up until this point, and that is a strong statement. I wonder if the Steez's matte black finish is comparable to the Tierra's in terms of durability.
  21. Bagleys are fish catchers...I own a bunch of them and they work, but it's like anything else. You get what you pay for. A Honda is a nice car that runs well and is durable, but the Acura line is nicer with more amenities. The WEC is the same way. It has a thinner lexan bill, a better and more durable paintjob, and a better resale value. WEC's are just higher quality.
  22. I've got two Tierra's...I couldn't find anything that made me want to spend more money. It is smooth, has a forged handle, is wobble-free, has the airbail, and even has a cool paint job. I'm in...
  23. Unfortunately not......and I feel like a complete dummy for selling my WEC Wobblers now!! Ah well.....I still have my Z-Flats!!! .....pretty much like a flat-sided Wobbler. The only bad thing about WEC is that I've gotten several baits with crooked bills from them (strange for a bait this expensive!). Most of them are straight - - and they rock! Yeah...I heard you mention another time you bought a few WEC's with crooked bills. Definitely rare...they may even be worth more money...like a penny with two heads! Anyway...I have several of the Z-flats, which are also discontinued. Superb cool water bait...
  24. Damnit! I saw the Sand Flea 2 weeks ago at Bubba Jacks when it was brand new, and they are already sold out! I already told my wife she is getting me a handful of WEC's for Christmas. I can't believe I've already missed out on the sand flea. Stringjam...know where to score any?!
  25. Even if it is ever finished, it won't include the WEC hardbaits I imagine. Since they aren't mass produced or carried consistently by any major retailer, you just have to be an angler 'in the know' to know about them and where to buy them.
