  1. got out to the local spot today for a few. brought along my light spinning outfit to see if the peas were out and wanted to play. after quite a few casts , i hook into this beast. i got some pics but didnt have tape measure with me. im guessing about 21" going by how she measured along the rod. somewhere around 7-8#? i called it a trip after that and headed home. its been a while since i caught a solid largemouth and this definitely made my day. catching this one really makes me really hate being stuck on shore and want to invest in float tube so i can get further out. this is the biggest ive seen come from this lake but ive heard of some pigs being caught here a while ago.
  2. can anyone comment on the redington pursuit outfits? the 6 and 8wt in the 4 piece look nice and come with a lifetime warranty. i also read that they are owned by sage.
  3. Thanks Snook. I looked up some of my local fly shops and it seems all that they carry is way out of my budget. I figure I could always swing by to pick up some flies and maybe get some suggestions and tips though. I should have a budget of around $150-200 for everything to get me started. Would this give me more options on decent gear or am i beet going with johns suggestion? I see cabelas has some outfits in my range but that would end up being more expensive adding everything else i need..
  4. Thanks. Those prices and warranty seem great but it looks like all the starter packages are out of stock. I'll give him a call. Would a 7wt be like a medium spinning rod and a 5 be a light? I would like to catch panfish and cichlids with this also.
  5. So after reading the thread about fly fishing , I started browsing around and decided I want to give it a try. I see pflueger makes a couple rod and reel combos but I see alot of mixed reviews. Can someone recommend me a decent combo? I would prefer one that at least comes with line and maybe flies. I mainly fish from shore and my lakes dont seem to hold anything over 5# or alot of thick cover. Thanks.
  6. Thanks guys. Im hoping one day she will enjoy fishing as much as I do when she gets older. I remember when I was living in NC , catching these were one of the few things I missed about Miami. Once you stick one , you instantly know it's a P.
  7. since hours are being cut at work , i have some time to do some fishing. while the wife is at work , i decided to take out our daughter to the local park/lake. she loves being outside... she was screaming and laughing at the ducks and loved watching me cast and pitch while walking out in the water. we were out for an hour or so today. hooked into a decent pea but lost her after a few huge jumps. so after a little while with no bites , i tied on my spook jr, this thing has so many battle scars and paint chips its ridiculous but the action on this one is spot on. first cast got me this little lady.. solid fighter. i forgot how much i enjoy catching these with light tackle. all in all it was not a bad outing considering it was super windy (gusts around 20mph and overcast) and i was fishing with my light spinning outfit. and even though paychecks will be a little short the coming months , i look forward to spending more time with Leah at the lake. fenwick elite river runner 6'8" light/fast shimano saros 1000f 20/6 sufix performance braid w/ 6# cxx leader 4" pumpkinseed zoom lizard t rigged w/ 1/8oz bullet weight unpegged on 1/0 ewg gammy & heddon spook jr in what was a trout color.
  8. Well I ended up ordering some 7.5" culprit and 4" power worms. with all the different replies I had to get both.
  9. spent my bps cards and just restocked what I was low in - hooks , weights in a few different sizes and some 30# sufix braid. Also got some culprit and power worms , lizards , cut tails , caffeine shads, dt 4 and 6's , a few x raps and a couple others I can't remember. also got myself a curado 51e as late b'day present. Feels great on my 6'8 m/f compre.
  10. i do use a 10" tool bag with a tool belt as a shoulder strap when im either going out for a while or with someone else. but most of my fishing is done solo...
  11. im stuck on shore. i put a few of each bait that i will be fishing into their own sammich bags. those go into my cargo shorts pocket. i cut back alot in my tackle selection so everything i fish with fits into my pockets.
  12. whats everyones favorite ribbon tail worm? i find myself grabbing zoom u tails just because ive always fished them. how much of a difference is there between culprit , berkley , zoom and others?
  13. ive pulled in quite a few LM and peacock bass on a 6'8" light/fast 'trout' rod with 20/6 braid and 6# cxx leader. its my favorite rig to fish.
  14. I've tried both but prefer the Albright.
  15. I love my saros 1000. Crazy smooth , great drag and it looks fantastic on my river runner.
  16. I would also suggest a TW card. I know I want a Shimano curado 51e but I wouldn't expect my wife to get one for me. Plus if I order it myself I could get the other necessities like line and maybe some hooks. While I'm at it some more plastics and maybe hardbaits too lol.
  17. i also love a cut tail on a shakey head. another one of my favorites is a 4" lizard on a 1/16 shakey when the bite gets tough.
  18. Cxx makes great leader material. Stands up to coral rock pretty well.

Just got the ps3 a few weeks ago so it would be for that. No more annual online fees!! Split screen online play sounds pretty dope. I wonder if my wife would play too lol.

I put over 200 hours into oblivion and am nowhere near completing the game. If I picked up skyrim , I would be sleeping outside lol. I will be getting mw3 though!
  22. I have two. One 6'6" 2 piece spinning m/f and a 6'8 casting worm/jig m/f that replaced my old style 6' m\f. While I dont have much time on the water with them I can say that they are at least as great as the old style. The new casting reel seat is very comfortable and i love the new look. They both are light in weight, very sensitive and imo fish close to what they're rated at. I also have a new model 6'6" l/f spinning rod that replaced an older model as well. Inhavnt fished with it and it still has tags on it but it feels very similar to the old one.

What does everyone think of .410 for home defense in an apartment? Or any other caliber in a home with thin walls?
  24. i use 6# - 10 or 12# p line cxx as leader joined with a albright knot depending what rig im fishing with. never had any issues with line breaking except for when i get snagged. well , i did have one instance where i tied a bad knot and was too lazy to retie a better one...i lost that fish. the knot itself is very compact and flows through guides easily. i also use a palomar when tying to baits. never any problems there. the palomar is a solid knot when tied correctly.
