  1. braid with a leader for all my fishing.
  2. You're missing something awesome not catching them on topwaters. Thats one absolutely fantastic strike. :o x2!! its such a rush seeing a peacock smash a spook...
  3. peas are still alive and kickin in my parts. they have been much more pale in color and staying in or near deep water. i couldnt tell you what they are doing further north though. i have caught one or two peas on t rigged u tails and 4" trick sticks but they were a total surprise. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1282584740/0#0 super flukes and fluke jrs have always done well all year for me. i will typically fish slower when the water is cooler but they will let you know. also , DOA terroreyez are excellent when they are active. http://www.basspro.com/D-O-A-%C2%AE-TerrorEyz-Fishing-Lure/product/22285/-511571
  4. Uhhhh....unfortunately that may be a while. 8" of snow coming in tonight. Lakes have been frozen over forever. Nothing like ordering fishing toys in the dead of winter and having to stare at them wow. ;D that sucks. welll.. ill let you know how i like mine whenever i get the chance to fish .
  5. Try backhand. Use your right hand, over your left shoulder, or left side. When you fish from shore it seems like there's always something in the way. I suck at backhand. That's definitely something i gotta work on. My buddy'll slide a jig under a dock using a backhand cast with his phone in his left hand. It's ridiculous. lol , nice. i do some back hand when i have to. im not as accurate , but i can make some fishable casts.
  6. LOL. i was waiting to see a comment on how they shipped em. i thought they sent me someone else order when i saw that odd box. mine came without a scratch though... im looking forward to your review...
  7. baitcasters i like to side or roll cast. spinning i like to pitch or overhand and feather the bait down. i fish from shore so it really depends on how much room i have on what side of me... i still cant cast with my left hand.

x2. i take a few out of their original bags and throw them in a zip lock. on the very few that do bend , their action isnt too far off of what a unbent one is. sometimes the small difference is what the fish like.
  9. ive wondered about the BPS pro Q and JM spinning reels with the mag spool. they are under $100 and have an all aluminum construction , iirc. yet i dont recall ever seeing someone comment on them.
  10. is there anything besides u40 i could use? i cant seem to find anywhere that has it locally through an internet search.
  11. i think you will love it. 8-) ..... ive only went out with it once and landed a small 1#er , but i already love it. when they said , fast tip with a soft action , they were right on. weightless plastics are very easy to cast and get good distance with and snap casting is a breeze. the TAC handle is fantastic. its very comfortable to fish all day with (something i was looking for in a light rod) and sensitivity is more than i would expect out of a rod at its price. components are obviously quality along with the cork and the metal accents and real seat screw? are a nice touch. however the one in the part that twists is plastic. i have my 801 on there now and it balances pretty nice. line management is still a minor issue with this reel so a new 1000 size reel may be in its future. this weird weather has been making fishing super slow and the peas have lockjaw. hopefully things will warm up soon and i can hook into a fish with some more size and fight and put up more of a review.
  12. cut tails as of lately. earlier this year , it was trick sticks.
  13. when i first got into bass fishing , i was told i would always catch something with stick baits. it took me over a year to finally catch a bass on one. after that , it seemed like fish crack. every other cast there was a fish on the bait. lately though , they have been collecting dust. my fish havnt wanted anything to do with them in the past few months.
  14. Ultra liite is ultra lite. They're just marketing it as a trout rod because normal, sane people don't use ul gear to go after bass. I guess I'm neither Actually it's the ul nature of the rod that allows the use of 4 to 6 lb test. The rod acts as somewhat of a shock absorber. A reel with a top notch drag is a must also. gotcha. i figured UL is UL and light is light no matter the rod , but i wasnt sure. looks like this may be my next rod.... if the local BPS has it in stock.
  15. this past year wasnt about new techniques for me. i focused more on packing light and sharpening my skills on what i like to fish with and i feel that was a success. this year , i may be dipping back into ultra light and/or light tackle more. i get more enjoyment fishing that than i do casting heavier baits with heavy gear and the fights the fish give feel more of a challenge. i will still use my heavier gear , but i have a feeling the light stuff will be on the water more.
  16. well , i wasnt pleased with the 'croix today. very tip heavy and fatiguing when continuously casting. so the 6'8" light fenwick may be next. my dumb question is , it being a 'trout rod' , would that make it a bad choice for a decent sized bass and peacock rod? ive never fished for trout so i dont know how they handle , but i do know peas make some serious hard runs.
  17. i got charged sales tax when my order shipped from MO. i did use a free shipping coupon code so its whatever.
  18. i honestly never had a problem with the norman speed clips but i only bought them because the BPS didnt have berkley cross-snaps. the one thing that worried me is when using the same clip continuously , that it may become brittle like when you bend a paper clip over and over untill it snaps. ive never had that happen though. or maybe when you guys freeze up there and cant get your fat fingers to open em up .
  19. i only use snaps (norman speed clips) with crank baits and spinner baits when im changing them often. never with anything else.
  20. they do look nice. i was like this || close to ordering one with my BPS cards but went for the st croix. the only fenwick ive own or fished with is my 6'6" mh/f eagle gt casting rod. i dont take it with me often. but that should be a huge step up in performance from mine. if you do pick it up , review please. btw , he isnt a plumber , but my neighbor is a tow truck driver and said.... ;D
  21. i fish my citicas with one brake on and adjust spool tension. no problems here.
  22. nice work! the sun is pretty serious down here. something not too many northerners know about lol.
  23. i have a 6'6 ml/f 2 piece premier coming soon. for $10 more , compres are an option.. http://www.basspro.com/Shimano%C2%AE-Compre%C2%AE-Spinning-Rods/product/74453/-1223066
