  1. ehh. i wouldnt put cxx near a spinning reel unless it has a large arbor. seige is excellent on spinning reels though.
  2. wow. i cringed a few times. at 6:47 , maybe im missing the lucky part , but it looks like the cop shot guy on the ground. :-?
  3. lol , this topic does come up alot. im right handed. cast right , reel left. ive only held RH reels and i couldnt imagine fishing with one. having to switch hands after each cast kinda turns me off. i would like to be able to use both...maybe one of those nifty procasters will fit the bill...
  4. just wow. that guy would have to go on a rampage if he lived down here ;D ;D ;D.

heres some.. http://www.flyfisherman.com/content/peacocks-paradise/2 http://www.inshore.com/tips-peacock.html http://bassonline.com/airport_lakes.html most of the nicer peas are in residential lakes. iirc , the state record was caught in kendall lakes off sw 152 in miami.
  6. congrats. its a great feeling getting that drag worked.
  7. i got a couple. the spot with the shade and the spot without. ;D
  8. for finding new water , i like to use bing maps and snoop around my area in satellite and birds eye view. pretty detailed images. once you find something , drive on over there and check it out. i had to do that when i moved to NC. i didnt know anyone who fished but i ended up finding tons of lakes , though alot of them wernt fishable. i had that feeling when i got my first baitcaster.... i went through alot of line ;D.

thanks guys and gal , lol. its unlikely but , if any of you are ever down in my area , i wont hesitate to show you my local waters and get you on some peas. i think everyone should get a chance to catch one of these.
  10. congrats! nice fish , water and scenery you have there. i sure do miss the hills/mountains and colors of the seasons up north.
  11. i agree with the OP. i take as little as possible. i only own 3 rigs but ill always bring 2 with me unless im only going to be out for a little bit , then ill bring one. my tackle bag consists of a 10" craftsman tool back with a nylon tool belt as a shoulder strap. a small double sided plano for hooks and weights and maybe some cranks if they will fit. if not , i got a separate small plano for cranks. i also carry 3-5 baits i will use for each rig. i also have a ziplock of torn/used baits that ill use too. if im fishing with my light spinning rig , ill carry some fluke jr's , finesse worm , 4" stick baits and a couple small cranks. some leader material , pliers/diagonal cutters and a small first aid kit. most or all of it would fit into my pockets , but i like to wade sometimes so they usually stay in the bag. im currently still in the trial and error stage of picking what works best for me. im starting to make a list of what i and the fish like and keeping those stocked. ill pick up some bags of random plastics on clearance and try those out. ill buy more if i like em. if not , they will collect dust or be given away. so far , it works for me.
  12. not exactly. ive been frustrated plenty of times , but like the others said - take a step back , breathe and try again. you will get it. earlier this year , i was in skunk city. now im pulling in decent sized bass every outing. even though the seasons changed since then , i stuck with it and it payed off imo. when i get those days where im not catching anything , i like to try new things. like ill throw on a heavy weight and drag it on the bottom to determine what weeds , rocks , wood , etc. feels like so when im out next time , im not setting the hook on nothing. also helps to find those ledges and such you might not know are there. you could be casting right next to 'the spot' and not even know it. personally , i dont fish alot of cranks or jigs simply because ive lost tons of em fishing from shore. ill throw plastics all day , and if i get snagged , im only out of some change as opposed to a few $7+ baits. those add up VERY quick. i would suggest trying that untill you get used to casting in those awkward angles.
  13. i love me some spooks. both the jr's and regular sizes. theyre pretty easy to walk and they catch fish. they also have plenty of color choices to get caught up on , but i always go for a color that looks like something from that water.
  14. green for me too. doesnt matter what brand/type of line.

he picked up a fluke jr on a split shot rig. i almost missed the hookset. at first i thought i snagged a rock till my line moved to the right and my drag started screaming. after a nice minute long fight on light spinning gear , i got em. i need to start carrying a measuring tape , but the rod is 15" from the butt cap to the top of the fore grip.
  16. havnt tried the YZ hybrid , but i have used cxx and loved it on baitcasters. spinning ... not so much. since switching to braid , its leader material. ive pulled up chunks of rock and larger branches with the stuff lol.

iirc , theyre from mexico. a while back , i heard they would go into peoples houses , kill everyone inside and take whatever they could get. mainly grow operation houses but sometimes regular homes as well.
  18. went out for a few hours today. as you can see , the water was pretty high from all the rain my area received the past couple days... it seemed all the fish the lake had were out and schoolin' around the shallows. cats , carp , mayan cichlid , tilapia , LMs and peacocks. tons of baby peas swimmin around too , so the population is definitely coming back. ive never seen a small cichlid chase away a 3+lb peacock untill today ;D. the LMs and peas were practically taking anything i threw , but flukes and fluke jrs worked fast seemed to bring in more than anything else. i stopped counting the fish landed after 10 , but it was somewhere around 15 with a few of them being quite round.. all in all , it was probably one of my best outings in a long time. thanks , rain.

we got em down here too. when i took a visit to our lovely correctional center a few years back , i remember there was a huge "MS 13" on the wall. i cant say ive seen any in person though.
  20. i recall reading somewhere about using bread/baggie ties to tie the hooks together on the baits. looked like it would work well , i havnt tried it though.
