  1. it is easier for them to shake the hook , but if pressure is kept throughout the fight , you will land that fish. not to mention how easy/safe it is to get that hook out. i dont mind loosing a fish or two if i know it will live to be caught again.
  2. i always feel bad when i gut hook a fish small or large. i had a few that were bleeding very bad. one i kept in my hands trying to revive it for at least 5 minutes before i gave it a soft shove and it went belly up. i figure i just helped out another animal get an easy meal. there isnt anything you can do once it already happened. i made it habit that every hook i use , the barb is crushed. i also became pretty quick at the through the gill method. when i first tried it , i thought having the fish out of the water for 20-30 seconds was too long so i would send it off with a hook in its mouth. now i will keep trying untill i feel im doing the fish more harm than good. so far , ive gotten almost all my deep hooks out. glenns method sounds like an excellent one , but not everyone has a boat/livewell.
  3. i was having the same problem with them when i first tried them. what i found works best ,for me atleast , is to put a slight bend downward in the belly. a slight U shape. keep foolin around with it and youll get the hang of it. they are fantastic baits.
  4. ouch. glad shimano doesnt do that. i would second the ebay for abu parts. there is always some posted for sale.
  5. truth. ive been in one of my metal/rock moods since ive been working with a friend of mine that practically only listens to that kind of music. he turned me onto a bunch of bands like made of hate , mors principium est and some others. personally , i think its amazing how people can make a guitar make that many different sounds. these guys are also amazing. not really my type of metal , but yeah...
  6. lol. i stumbled across this guy sometime ago and just now decided to look into his stuff. amazing imo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckethead
  7. havnt used elite , but i love seige. favorite mono so far.
  8. watching now...
  9. i love creeks. x2. there are many tutorials and threads about casting with a bait caster. but once you get the hang of it , it becomes natural. good luck.
  10. x2. ill take the supra , GT4 or a ferrari over that if i had to choose. now if i just had that extra cash laying around , i surely wouldnt spend it on ONE car. probably a chevrolet typhoon in excellent condition or a blazer xtreame and a boat. with the remaining cash , ill buy a house. sorry lexus.
  11. i used Penn oil/grease and shimano drag grease on the drag washers and i like it just fine.
  12. wow. that fish is beastly. good work!
  13. i had a peacock bass do the same thing to me. i ended up catching her on a weightless 4" trick stick t rigged. i cast it right in front of her face and as she got closer i gave it soft twitches. just enough to get some action in the bait. shaky heads worked for me with LM bass in the past too. i did the same thing with them also. cast in front of the bass and gave it soft twitches and hops untill i got the bite. good luck.
  14. in my hands , my 5' UL ugly stick lite weighs more than my 6'6" MH/F fenwick eagle GT casting rod and a crap ton heavier than my 6' M/F compre.
  15. i throw plastics 80% of the time mainly because they are cheap and i fish in snag infested water.
  16. hm. i may be getting a new job so im not too sure if i can take that day off. whenever the date is set, ill know for sure if i can make it or not.
  17. lol , reminds me of mrlitetackle. throwing hard swimbaits on ML spinning gear or whatever he was using. apparently he didnt have a problem doing that. i think you would be able to tell if the lure is too heavy when you load it with the rod.
  18. eh. i like their 'free' tackle bag offer with their rods. holds all my gear just fine.
  19. i started with 2 on. now i only keep 1 on unless im casting into strong wind. spool tension is your friend.
  20. i tie a palomar on my spook jr.
  21. great post. while im sure i dont have tennis/golf/fishing elbow , if im out on the water for a few hours , my elbow does begin to hurt. ill give that a shot next time it gives me problems. thanks.
  22. thanks. yeah , the couple lakes i go to in my area stay pretty clear. the canals are a different story lol.
