  1. I have a backpack FULL of tackle it weighs ALOT!! so I carry 3...1 spinning 7'6" for real light stuff, 2 BC with my worm & light jig 7' mf rod. 3..my swimbait rod 7'6" mhxf, I will toss heavy jigs and spoons with it. To carry more rigs is too much for these OLD bones, that's one reason why I favor a backpack over a tackle bag.
  2. Merry Christmas, and a safe and prosperus new year.....oh, and Tight Lines forever..
  3. To the book's credit, they do mention this later in the chapter: There are two primary exceptions when speed reeling is not necessarily the best choice for crankbaits. These occur at either extreme end of the temperature scale, when the water is either too hot or too cold. The reason is simply that in such conditions bass do not move as fast and won't go after a fast-moving lure. Maybe this should have been added to your first post.. Thanks.
  4. To stir the pot a little..If wintertime bass become lathargic, and won't really expend much energy to chase a bait, why then would you use a "fast" retrieve for a crank..? Or, am I missing something..?
  5. Mike, where did you get yours..? Greg
  6. Hard ...Mattlures hard gill. Soft...6" Huddelston juv trout (weedless) A good all around swimbait imho, only because it's weedless, otherwise the Mattlures 6" trout is a close second.
  7. Yhis may be a bit out of the norm, but a Shimano Calcutta mxf works great for that, mine is 7'6", and will cast a Very long way with the baits you mentioned. Now the bad news, these rods are discontinued..I'm sure there are current rods as good or better..
  8. That's what I have...note, don't dip any X3 soft baits..they will bleed, my clear now has a red tint from the red shad worms.. ;D
  9. For the $$$, the Clarus is a pretty decent rod..under rated imo...had mine for about 7 mos..I take it on every trip..

I think there's to many lures with rattles...leave the poor worms alone.... ;D
  11. Same here.. :-/ I have found that if I goto the site while maintenance is being done (and see that maintenance message), I have to log in the next time I go on the site. If I don't happen to goto the site during the maintenance period, I never have to log in again (unless of course I open the web site during maintenance time). Question for Moderators or Glenn: Why is that?
  12. X 2...I try to avoid buying stuff at bps, especially online..Tackle warehouse has great customer service, Fast shipping, and good prices..what more could you want..?
  13. Ain't that the truth... :-[
  14. Most of my worm hooks are barbless..
  15. JJ's is killer...just keep OUTTA the house..lol Also try Megastrike for jig, and spinnerbait skirts, I use it to keep my plastic's soft. Not as smelly as JJ's
  16. I heard that braid will only wear out cheaper guides..not the fuji sic's...??
  17. Welcome Ted...good tp see more folks from Cali joining up..Enjoy your stay..lots of great anglers and info. here..
  18. 5" Senco Fat Ika Flappin Hog Roboworms 4.5 & 6" Sweet Beaver Yum small craws...forgot what they are called Ragetail Craws Ragetail Lizards I know..that's 8..just couldn't leave any of those out.. ;D
  19. Welcome Andrew...BR is by far the best bass site on the interwebs..
  20. You'll have a hard time getting a long cast..to heavy of a lure impedes the action of the rod, kinda like it wil over load the rod. I've tried to cast a lure that I knew was to heavy for my rod...it's not pretty.. ;D
  21. For a new set up, I think Nick got about as close as possible.. Also, what about used rigs..? A friend just scored a G Loomis rod 3-5 oz..and a Calcutta reel for 180.00.
  22. 99.99% sure re: the 1/2 oz jigs, like skunked said, look at the rod rating..
  23. You might try the 6" roboworms..color would depend..Margarita Mutalor is a good start. Also the Senco 5" in watermelon, pumpkin..you'll need to expeiment with colors. No garontees that bigger fish will hit these, as all sizes of fish eat.. More impotatntly is putting your lure where the bigger fish are..
  24. Take a fishing trip South...
