  1. I had one jumpin the boat one day, musta been chasing minnows or something and came right in the boat, that was interesting.
  2. I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way to work it, and if that worked for you, then continue to use it that way I Florida rig mine (screw in bullet weight) typically with a gambler rattlin bullet weight, throw it, let it sink to bottom (only 5-6' where I'm fishing) then start swimming it back to me on a steady mid-speed pace.
  3. that's a good thing...that means you're fishing over a mussel bed, which means you should be producing fish as well, I'm not sure if they close like that to feed, or if it's a protection thing, but whatever the case, you're bait being there isn't necessarily a bad thing
  4. you can't go wrong with the revo S, I have one and will be getting a few more in the next couple of weeks. plus, being that you're in ft.pierce, if you get it and don'tlike it, I'll take it off your hands for ya.
  5. well, my best advice is that when you feel that bump that could be either, rip your bait as quick as possible, if it is a fish, it will set the hook well,if it is grass, you'll most likely pull through it clean, and it may cause a reaction strike from any fish sitting close by, this is a tried and true technique by many many bass fisherman out there.
  6. agreed, stick marsh is about an hour away from orlando, and is well worth it... Hire the very well known guide George welcome, and have an awesome experience you won't forget.
  7. my name's Mike, and I have a problem...I've been tackle buying free for 2 days ;D ;D I'm pretty bad,I know the tackle I wanna buy, and I search all over for info on it, reviews, good and bad etc etc, and just dream for the day when I can buy it (I'll be buying a few new revo S reels here soon, so thats now my main goal) with money being so tight, sometimes it takes me a while get what I want, which builds the excitement even more. I also have the issue of, I find a Bait I like,so I load up on them, and competitor brands to see which is better, for instance, I liked senkos, so I tried dingers, tiki sticks, stickos etc etc, or I started doing real well on horney toads, so I loaded up on different colors to try and find the ones that where catching the best (WE all know how the color debate goes) I baught the big green okeechobee fats bag about 2 years ago, thinking I would never fill that thing...now its over flowing and I'm trying to figure out how to make everything work.
  8. every so often, a state biologist, who works for the FWC (Florida fish anf wildlife commission) will be at the ramp, taking surveys of what we caught, numbers, size, species, what we caught them on etc etc etc. I don't tihnk florida has any kind of recognition program so to speak though.
  9. so, I've figured out this rod works AWESOME for the floating worm technique. very cool
  10. I always just use another hook, they do sell a tool for such things, but I've never seen the need to spend money when another hook works just as well.
  11. I was fishing a canal on the garcia reservoir and had a couple guys jump about 30 yards in front of the line I was on and started fishing down the canal, about 5 minutes after they did that I hooked a nice 8lber on toad, while I could tell they were fishing worms.I made sure to hoot and holler and held it up in the air so they could see, then I made the comment loudly "you may have jumped in front of us, but you don't know what to use to catch them." I didn't see them catch a single fish, while my buddy and I continued to catch fish on top water. they left abouyt 20 minutes later. ;D ;D
  12. I use the rattlin screw in bullet weights form Gambler, those work real well, and you won't lose them with your plastics.
  13. I've gotta speak against them. I got two, after numerous positive reviews on here, both of them I will be returning as soon as I can make it back to BPS. one has a horrible vibration and sorta clicking grinding sound which I'm fairly sure is the bearings, the other has a problem with the levelwind and worm gear. two new out of the box reels and within a month both went bad, that is not good. I will be replacing mine with revo S reels, I have one of those and love it. that is soemthing to consider, tho much higher than $40, IMHO its worth it.
  14. I only really fish the jrs, I still get quality fish on them, but also get more numbers. I keep the big boys for saltwater fishing. I have atleast 10 colors, but my three fav are ozark shad (green back, white belly) clear, and baby bass.
  15. I'm not sure how on earth braid couldkill your top water action? the limpness of braid helps me walk the dog WWAAAYYY better than a mono or flouro. I can tie straight to a topwater bait with braid, but ifI'm using one of the others I have to use a loop knot. and my answer to the original question,is 30lb power pro, all day, period!
  16. anywhere, anytime ;D
  17. can't do a quick snap over hand, thats for sure, tis more like a sweeping carolina rig toss. as I said tho, they do work...don't discount them too bad on the weirdness of how they look, and also I have caughta 4+ on one, ti held up alright. one more thing to consider with this, it doesn't run 15" behind the blade, it sorta sits down in the water at a 45 degree angle, so its not as far away as it seems, but its down about 4" into the water, which is why it is supposed to give the fish a better look at it.
  18. its actually used more as a swim bait, than like the original senko, the paddle tails creates great action when retrieved moderately fast, but the ait doesn't wabble on the fall like a regular senko, so if you're out to be a part of the senko craze, this isn't the way...it si a great intro to the soft swim bait craze tho
  19. they do work tho, almost a mix between a buzz bait, a spinner bait and a swim jig, it is supposed to help the fish zone in on the body of the bait, rater than the sound, and with the longer shank, it sorta dances back and forth, hence the name. Like I said, they do work,I've caught fish on them, btu I wouldn't say they are any more effective than a regular buzz bait, or spinner bait.
  20. I too mount tires every day, but I know I'd be out of a job if I did that trick...not to say I haven't done it on my own time before.
  21. I rig them on a 4/0 hook, with a 1/8 screw in bullet and just swim them back in,, just like a swim senko or other soft paddle tail swim bait.I love them, they creat tons of action (myrod tip wabbles as if I were throwing a trap or spinner bait) I tihnk they have decent action when fished slow, comparable or better than a swim senko.
  22. I've recently decided I do NOT like BPS anymore, however, I do not have a cabelas anywhere near me (BPS is still an hour and a half) I do not like buying online, so its kinda up to local (ATLEAST 10% more expensive) or I do BPS...there are rumors of a cabelas or G. mountain opening near me tho, so maybe I'll be better off soon.
  23. so, I've got an all star 7' ML/F spinning rod, with a shimano sedona 2500 spooled with 15lb power pro.I originally got the rod for working original rapalas, and small jerkbaits, however, I've found I'd rather use my ultralite for the rapalas, and a baitcaster for the jerkbaits, so I basically don't use this rod now. I was thinking maybe drop shotting, but that isn't a technique I really ever do, and on very few occasions would even have the opportunity. so I guess I'm wondering, what would you all throw with this rod, or what do you guyds throw on similar set ups?
