  1. Sounds about right. Havent used either jig, but those northstar jigs look amazing. I like slongs jigs myself
  2. Hey, I made one from an old altoide can lid. It does not really fell too strong, but it may be able to help you get some confidence before buying one. Ive caught a handful of fish on that one before buying a few at the store. I dont know if they still make them, but the Gambler chatterbaits were pretty nice. As for color, I like the chartreuse/white, white, and black blue. Those 3 colors should be all you need, for real.
  3. That thing looks wicked! I want something like that!
  4. Another good thing about the H2O Mettle is that it has a lifetime warranty. Bass Pro has a year. When mine was working, The PQ was very nice. It was an older model. I will probably get a new one next season when I want a new reel, or I should say I can afford a new reel
  5. Looks like more horror stories than good stories. Main reason I got my abu was because of customer service. Dude at a local tackle store said that when the carrot fibers dry out, that is when the rods become brittle. Not sure how true it is or not, but I thought it was an interesting observation.
  6. I throw a 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz chartreuse white tandem spinnerbait on ponds like that. I tend to get quite a few bites on it. I like to go to the bank where the wind is blowing to when doing this. You could also throw a carolina rig to figure out the bottom structure and cover quite a bit of water
  7. I really like the Bomber Square A's. Its a pretty nice little squarebill. I like its wobble more than the strike king squarebills. Its probably my go to squarebill. Since you said you fish murky water, I would go with Chartreuse blue back cranks as well as fire tiger. Firetiger is a really strong color in dirty water.
  8. I would look at Strike King or Bomber. I really like the Fat Free Shads and Square As from Bomber. As for colors, I would look at a a sexy shad color, a brown craw color and either a chartreuse blue back or fire tiger color.
  9. Bass Pro is good about returns. I forgot my reciept when I went to return a reel and they pulled up the purchase on thier computer. Take it in and they will hook you up real quick.
  10. I just got a Quantum Accurist for $30. Saved about $60. It had good reviews but people on here have ripped it. I got it because it is super smooth and it fits my hands really well. I am hoping that it lasts. Feels great now. Anyway, I think it would probably be ok. I have had some issues with some bass pro reels, so I get nervous around those. Both have a 1 year warrenty. I think you will be fine.
  11. I think 6-10, I would go with the Medium. Crankin Sticks are nice rods. I would go with the non telescopic as well. It nice sometimes, but I also find it to be pretty annoying.
  12. Most everyone on here will tell you to look at the Pro Qualifier. It is a nice reel and it is on sale for $80 right now. As for those Abus, I have heard mixed reviews and I havent heard anything about the Bionic Blade reel. As most have said, I would pay a little more for the Pro Qualifier, but between those reels, I would go with the Bionic Blade
  13. and the Academy H2O reels all have a lifetime guarentee which is pretty cool
  14. I've used braid and ive used floro, but most of the time I prefer Mono. I have braid on one reel, for Frog fishing. Everything else is mono, or Yo Zuri Hybrid. Bass Pro Excel and Trilene Big Game get alot of use by me
  15. I was thinking like flyfisher, just cut off the clevis thats holding the other blade on. Some wire cutters should be able to cut it pretty easy without making a huge deal. I would think that once the blade is off, you could just bend the halves of clevis back and forth and they should just snap off pretty easily. You could get a $1 bait at walmart and try it out. If it doesnt work, you could go get one of those goofy looking armed baits. It looks goofy, but I'm sure it works. good luck, buddy
  16. My favorite is my 6'6" (6'5" now cause I stupidly caught the tip in the door when I was moving home from college, UGH!) Medium Extreme rod with the original Ardent XS baitcaster. I threw smaller plastics when I started, moved into throwing some top waters, and now I throw spinnerbaits exclusively on it. It feels amazing with spinnerbaits. The reel doesnt have a great drag system cause Ardent was still figuring it out, but it doesnt bother me too much. I love that combo. Since getting a new rod and reel I feel might be good for a spinnerbait, I may go back to using my favorite combo as a small plastic rod again. Its my favorite because it feels amazing and I can throw anything i want on it. Its my utility rod
  17. I had something similar to that happen a few years ago. Reel worked for about 13 months with no hitch, one day i felt a bump as well. Worm gear moved when reeling, but the spool wouldnt work. I had another baitcaster at that time that i used more than this one any. It hadnt gotten that much work, but was a month out of warrenty. Anyway, I took the reel apart and found that there was a screw that had come loose and chewed up a plastic gear inside the reel. Needless to say, I was not too happy. Now that the plastic gear was eaten up, it was not catching, thus the spool would not turn. I have since bought one reel from that brand because it was on clearnace for pretty cheap. I have not had any issues with this new one, but I rarely use it. I blame myself a bit since I did not take the reel apart and clean it, but it was my first baitcaster, I didnt know how to do it and frankly, I dont think it had been used enough to really clean. Oh, that second reel that I had been using was the same brand and locked up completely, just out of warrenty too. Oh well.
  18. I was at Academy Sports today looking to get the H2O Mettle for $50. Looked like a pretty awesome deal. Anyway, I decided to look for the Menace becuase someone mentioned on another post it was on clearance at their Academy for $30. That was sold out, but I saw a clearance sticker for $29.98 for an Accurist PT. Its the burner 7.1 gear ratio. I picked it up and was pretty impressed. It seems like a nice reel. A little on the heavy side, but hey it was $30! I thought it was an awesome deal. The guy said they had about 40 and they said they needed to move them, so they dropped price. I was all over it. now im ticked that I didnt get a 2nd. Have a new reel for my Vengance rod now! Go check your academy if you are near one, they may have one too.

i have a feeling its gonna feel awesome. I went out yesterday and fished one of my hair jigs and it looks awesome, but the farm pond I fished was weedy as heck. Kept getting stuff on it. I think it will do better around rocks
  20. my go to spinnerbait in muddy water is a big chartreuse luck e strike Trickster. The Trickster blades throw off a good thump that have caught me fish in about 3" of visibility
  21. It says new item on the site, which makes me think its the V2. I just ordered one as well. i went with the 6'6" just cause its a bit lighter
  22. I have the Daiwa S 6'3" soinning rod. Its a pretty nice rod for shakey head fishing. I also have a 6' bionic blade M rod. I would suggest the bionic blade. pretty awesome rod for very reasonable price
  23. thats what i was thinking too. and you would need alot of weight to make it sink. just seems like it would be crazy awkward to try to use
  24. Lipless crankbait and rip it through the top of the grass I would also say swim jigs and plastic worms
  25. They say they match any price at the register. I am going to print off that sheet and go pick one out at the store. Thats awesome. Thanks for heads up
