I was lucky enough to have grown up around Toledo/Rayburn with that level of anglers as my teachers.

When FFS took the industry by storm it was said to have changed the way we fished. Damiki Rigs & Jerkbaits was what you had to throw. Well come to find out we are still catching them with FFS using Carolina Rigs, Deep Diving Crankbaits, Alabama Rigs, Jig-n-Craws, Flutter Spoons. We also learned you don't have to follow schools, you can still find them holding on structure.

Being a guide in my opinion is the most difficult aspect of fishing. It takes a level of commitment above tournament fishing. Staying on active fish for a multiple day tournament is hard, try doing it daily & year round. @F14A-B mentioned having a "network", it is very helpful at shorting the learning curve. Couldn't disagree more 😉 Different Era, with more advanced tools, the good ole days are now.

I have been "coaching" others in the fine art of bass fishing for a couple dozen years now. I've done it privately & publicly.

What I look for now is lists published by Wildlife & Fisheries showing the number of Florida strain stocked in various bodies of water & for how long.

A blizzard warning (in Red) has been issued for Calcasieu, Jeff-Davis, and Cameron parishes until 12:00 PM due to winds up to and over 35 mph and snow accumulation of 2-4 inches over the next several hours. Stay sheltered and off of the roads except for emergencies!!

Totally depends on the body of water! Everyone knows Toledo & Rayburn's reputations. I look at them like this, a daily bag limit for LMB is 8 per day with a minimum length of 14" (2-2 1/2#). Sounds easy? Try it without FFS or a guide. My daily average over 52 yrs is 11 bass per day with a 3 1/2-4 # average. Kicker fish are anything 7#+. I usually average one every trip. Lacassine wildlife refuge is federally owned & is closed Oct 15th - March 15th. Stocked with Florida strain, 6-7# are common, several double digits are a caught yearly. Calcasieu & Sabine Rivers are Dink Fests, 3+ is big.
