While we have plenty heavy cover, there's alot of ares similar to yours. Like you said we target the boat lanes & the weedless. There's a wide selection of lures the work in these conditions. Make minor adjustments to your lures. Instead of a Fluke throw a Rage Swimmer or Keitech Swing Impact. I wouldn't be afraid of targeting a 2-3' into the vegetation.

One thing I have learned is if they ain't eating it ya can't force feed em. Three parts of the water column are topwater, mid-depth, & bottom Topwater has been eliminated

Lightly spray Awesome Cleaner, wipe down with a microfiber cloth, q-tip for all tight areas. Lightly oil the worm gear & housing.

Like @Pat Brown says fish the structure under the grass. Think of it this way, structure is the cake, grass is the icing.

A friend of mine has the AVX189, its the non pad hull. This hull was discontinued but new ones can still be found. Its an 18' 7" with a 94" Beam & a 115 hp. Handles chop very smooth & dry. An friend has a AVX1880, it is a pad hull. This is 18' 10" with a 95" beam & a 115 hp Suzuki. The boat corners very well, handled 2 1/2' chop smooth & dry. The AVX1980 should fit you needs.

The majority of my skipping is around trees, brush, reeds, & lilies that grow above the water. My favorite is pre-spawn Buck Brush with a Jig-n-Craw. Most anglers flip-n-pitch the outside edge of the brush but if you want Nadine ya gonna have to skip between the individual brush.

Is your reel on the rod when fishing? Or is it in your hand? If your rod can't handle 6-10 lbs of drag, you need a new rod anyway! Now I wouldn't advise doing a clean & jerk, just a steady lift. Bet y'all @Glenn got a video
