@fishhugger Frogs are highly effective away from grass. Check out Dean Rojas on YouTube. As for your Pop-R if letting sit is not producing, speed it up.

50+ years of night fishing has taught me to rely on feel more than eye sight. When a bass takes a lure off the surface, they turn to swim away or they head back down...ya should be able to "feel" that.

The biggest reason for poor hookup ratios with topwater lures is anglers can see the strike. Feel for em!

Wally World 😉 Berkley Big Game is extremely popular down here for both fresh & saltwater & seldom sits on the shelf long. I might have to visit 2 or 3 to find a spool. Academy, Dick's, Bowie Outfitters, & others over price their line. I pay just under $8 a spool.

I absolutely perfer my older Calcuttas over my newer Lew's. Why? Solid as an anvil, versatile as a pair of Channellocks®, & dependable as a 30/30. With old age comes physical challenges which is why I now use Lew's. They're a lot lighter than the Calcutta.

Yes sir 😉 Caught em & ate em. When they're crossing the road a buddy of mine will pull over & thrown em in the back of the truck.

At this point in time my Alweld is lacking electronics. I marsh fish a lot & electronics aren't necessary. Same for our bayous & rivers. On Toledo Bend I get by with my little HELIX 5 SONAR G2. No GPS, no down imaging, no side scan, & no FFS.

I use "worm juice" for two purposes first as a lubricant because I fish in grass a lot and the "worm juice" helps my plastic baits slide through easier. I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of 100% pure anise oil added; this is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.

If ya gonna use Anise make sure its 100% pure oil, not essential oil or extract. If you're buying it from Wally World or any other grocery store that ain't it! I know a little girl who orders it through a pharmacy. @Bird It's back 😉

I've been known to get out of the boat in the middle of a marsh. My thought process is to stick em first, then figure out how to land em.

@ol'crickety Merci Beaucoup! At 26" she's the longest bass I've caught. Don't know why but the bass in that marsh grow longer than usual. The picture of Aiden is from the same marsh.

Sometimes it is as simple as being in the right place at the right time. Aiden caught this bass under the dock we're standing on. In the background is a boat launch. Aiden asked if I could tie a jig on for him, so I did. He took the rod flipped the jig under the dock. I just started to shake my head when he set hook. He had seen the bass before asking for the jig & had been watching videos about flipping docks. He said, I saw a dock, a bass, & figured all I need is a jig!
