It's going to be impossible to give you good advice if you don't know what size or type of bait you want to fish. The rod and reel that you would use for a 6" Hudd is quite different than the rod and reel you would fish a Mother on.

I am loosely in that line of work as well. The amount of time, money and energy it takes to produce a giant catalog is stunning. I, for one, wish they would stop producing catalogs, it a massive waste of paper. I enjoy looking through them too but who buys stuff through the mail anymore? It's easier to get online and find exactly what you need.

I wouldn't send a brand new 1 piece rod to Megabass to get a tip fixed even if they offer to do it for free. It's a 2 minute fix, just have them send you a new tip.

Another thing you might consider is using a c-rig to get a small crank deeper.

Especially when a sale is currently going.

Lol, this isn't what I expected from the title. I had a buddy with a dog named Spro. I always thought that was a good fishing name for a dog.

I don't have any knowledge of that specific reel but you should be able to access the brakes through the palm side plate, (the side pictured.) The dial on the handle side is the spool tension. While that reel isn't a high end reel by any stretch, (neither is the Silver Max) it should be more than adequate to learn on. My advice is to spend a little more time getting the Ardent dialed in and practice with it. There is plenty of info on this site about getting reel settings dialed in.

I get irritated with this kind of question too. To me it's sheer laziness on the part of the person asking the question. (I'm not speaking to the OP specifically.) You have this wonderful, massive resource with more information than you could possibly ever read and you're not willing to read through a few pages to try to find an answer? Who knows what other information you might learn along the way. The lack of a willingness to do a little research is astonishing to me.

Yeah, their stuff is awesome. There used to be a US company that imported Matagi but Mudhole bought them out and stopped bringing it in. It is definitely still obtainable but it takes some effort.

I agree. When the trend became longer rods, the pistol grip was dead in the water. You needed a longer handle and a different grip point to add some balance to the rod. Rod companies stopped making high quality pistol gripped rods when people stopped buying them in favor of a longer, straight gripped rod. That's why most pistol grip rods made today are low quality, the people who buy them aren't going to spend $60-$100 for a rod and reel.

Take a look at the CL8 Baby Possum, awesome bait.

They're both built in same factory. Pick the one that feels the best in your hands. Quality shouldn't be a concern with either.

I bought a Lucky Craft 7' Heavy Deep Strike cranking rod. I actually got it today, very well built rod.

There will be an Alphas Air coming out sometime 2016, I imagine it will be cheaper than the other Air spool Daiwas. Not sure exactly when it will be released though.
