  1. noo... Ike NEVER GIVES UP!!!!! Sorry couldn't pass it up. ;D If you continue to fish deep structure you will learn it. Electronics are a HUGE help here. If you do not have electronics, I would skip fishing deep structure unless you are EXTREMELY dedicated. When I first started fishing deep structure we never had electronics... just used a rope with depth markings. We would drag it until we found the drop offs, and mark the edges with buoys. : Deep water is a beast that I still struggle with every time I fish it. I am by no meens an expert, but you have to practice it. It will pay off, especially if your somewhere with a good smally population.
  2. I had a chance to meet Brett Favre, he was a very down to earth guy. When I was a kid, my neighbors bred and sold chocolate labs, he happened to purchase one from them. He went to the house when he was picking up the dog and we were grilling out, he had a burger and I got to play catch with him. Still have the football we played catch with, signed in a case.
  3. 50# braid is what I'd put on it. Use it as a heavy worm / jig rod, could throw frogs with it too. Pretty short for flipping but make due with what ya have.
  4. :-? How will this help him build jig confidence? +1 to swimming the jig. Jigs are not to the ideal choice in every scenario which will in fact destroy your confidence. You make a very valid point Catt, I was under the impression however that this is the primary lake or possibly only lake he currently has access to. The jig may not be the ideal choice but still need to learn or get some confidence in them.

    Welcome from the northern waters!
  6. Welcome from the north woods!
  7. A KSA Pro eh? Sounds like fun, well it is good to have you here.
  8. Welcome, good to have you here!
  9. What kind of rod do you have it paired with?
  10. I dunno I like a 3/O hook for a 5" worm, don't have many issues with hookups, as for the scent, *** has a good scent on their worms. Or you could buy a tube of mega strike, which I absolutely love, I grind it into all my jig and spinnerbait skirts. For worms and soft plastics... JJ's Magic the clear (unless you want to dye it) without a doubt. If your married... don't open JJ's in the house or your wife will come into your fishing room and think your cooking spaghetti.
  11. So whats the problem, don't you primarily target the gills? ;D

  13. +1 I don't even have to see the picture I'm calling BS on this thread from the time I clicked it. :
  14. I got them... same as any other tube, don't smell like coffee to me either, maybe I just got a bad batch of beans.
  15. black/black cavitron is my go to buzzbait. Also throw white/chart with silver or gold blade, white/black with copper blade.
  16. I use * 4" spinnerbait trailers in white or pearl. Will dye the tip or whatnot with JJ's as needed.
  17. I'm looking to get into topwaters a little more heavily. Looking at some new poppers, do the yellow magic poppers warrent the price hike over other say bass pro shop poppers? Also what size is prefered with these 1/4 or 1/2?
  18. I agree with dink, the increase size is going to decrease hook up ratio.
  19. +1 On another note, I liked fireline.... until I fished about 7 hours in steady rain and it bled all over my stx.
  20. I have a powell 683c and wouldn't trade it for any other medium application rod. (It is rated for MH but it feels and operates more like a medium, all the powell rods I have handled felt like they are overrated)
  21. Just a guy I know who is selling some of his rods off, if I had a store that was selling them at that price I would be sure to let you all know
  22. I tried this once... now I have to take heart medication.
  23. Can be a bit overwhelming can't it? Restricted to the shore, you got your "spots" you know how to fish them because you've done it over and over. Now that barrier is gone and you can go anywhere on the lake, a whole new ballgame has opened up. Take a breath. Go back to the basics, cover and structure. Is there a current at all in the lake? Does the city come through with big machines and cut weed lanes? These are all factors to think about, one of the first things I learned to do when I got off the shore, was follow the weed lines or canals those big machines cut out. Fish will hold in the edges of those, hit the pockets in the weed lines, throw a spinner through there and rip up some grass. Your limitations are now gone... though, don't leave the shore line completely! Your kayak will give you speed to travel those shore lines with more easy and access more shoreline that may not have been able to be reached on foot. Most importantly, have fun out there! It will all fall into place p.s. Go flip that pier!
  24. the grip is split, I can get either of these two for $100 bucks + shipping just trying to make up my mind as which would better fit in my arsenal
