  1. I can cast a baitcaster with traditional brakes as far as I’d want to set a hook so I don’t feel a need for DC technology personally. It’s cool and I’m sure fun to play with. I’d suspect the biggest advantage would be for someone not particularly skilled with a caster or someone who loathes spinning gear like for strong Head winds.
  2. There’s no industry standard but there is a system widely used among custom builders and a few fly rod makers. If you want to geek out lookup the Common Cents system by Dr Hannaman.
  3. I’m working on a setup for you. You’re going to need something with a tip that loads to get the speed to skip distance. You can pitch with the same rod as again you want it to load arc least to some point. Do you use a roll cast or side arm? In most cases height doesn’t limit the rod you can use. I was leaning toward something 6’8-10. Check your email
  4. Click one of my logos and the link will take you to my site. There you’ll find a work order form with shipping address. Send at your convenience and I’ll take cod you.
  5. My advice is to clean and lube with oil and add a drop occasionally for best of both worlds. Everyone is free of course to do as they wish.
  6. They lube reels at the factory for sale to the masses 90% of which will never clean or oil the reel. I also think they use lots of grease to give the illusion and feel tighter tolerances and smoothness out of the box. Cost and ease of application is another concern I’m sure. If everything from the factory was the very best possible ‘this forum and certainly this thread wouldn’t exist.
  7. Grease on an exposed application like a level wind is not a good choice imo. It collects abrasive debris and tends to gum up.
  8. Bearing shields have nothing to do with water proofing or reel specific application. Boca as well as other sellers have all kinds of different bearings in a given size. I have most if not all those bearing sizes in stock in 404ss ABEC5 $8.50ea. Email me if you want. Idler gears will have to be oem but not sure why you need a lot of those. The AR clutches should be able to be cleaned unless they’ve rusted.
  9. Stick with a spinning rod for those baits. That’s not to say you can’t use a baitcaster in small water. A six Inch senko and 03 hook will cast well enough and get bit by whatever swims there. Best to learn casting with heavier baits then branch out.
  10. Yup that’s the mid aligned ratchet gear I mentioned. Glad you figured it out. It’s almost always something simple.
  11. Hard to say without knowing the model and what exactly you disassembled. Could be adoring disconnected, ratchet gear misaligned. You can call me tomorrow if you’d like.
  12. What are you trying to get JDM that you can’t get elsewhere?
  13. I won’t use 10# and up mono on anything smaller than a 4000 size reel and prefer 6 or under on 2500’s, 8# if it’s supple.
  14. We won’t hold that against you. Lol welcome aboard.
  15. Being an experienced angler means more than catching, right??
  16. You’d have to buy a whole new frame. Lot more than $15.
  17. Hopefully you got a Carbontex drag and not oem. You can pitch the brake tabs. These reels don’t spin that fast under the best of circumstances.
  18. With your budget you’d have to try to wrong among the name brands. Why not try each and see what YOU prefer?
  19. The rating on rods are actual weight not lead head weight. Hook, skirt and trailer can add significantly to head weight.
  20. Sounds to me like there’s a family dynamic at work here that goes beyond inexperience at fishing. Maybe you want to address the broader issues and it will translate.
  21. That’s right. Your products will work fine. Main thing is to apply them to clean parts.
  22. 1/8 one way or the other won’t hurt anything. Too light and the rod won’t load, distance and accuracy will both suffer. Too heavy, the rod feels mushy Accuracy may suffer as well as sensitivity ability to apply desired action. If you go ridiculously heavy and try a snap cast tip breakage is possible.
  23. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!! same thing as pointing the rod straight up and having the fish dive under the boat. Classic high stick scenario. If you held that same rod 90* to the load you’d be shocked at how high the deadlift capacity is(was). Nothing wrong with Toray materials in a general sense.
