  1. Why wouldn’t quantum just relabel the rods? Not like KVD has the patent or something.
  2. My favorite is slapping the handle then hitting the thumb bar to make the spool spin. (Face palm)
  3. Sometimes things just don’t quite seat fully and another reassembly does the trick. Contact me for further assistance.
  4. 100% I’ll never get used to hearing these stories of “testing” reels. Make me cringe. Lol
  5. Keep the tube under 8’ and avoid oversized charges. Priority Mail is usually cheapest but yes not every clerk knows how to measure it. In PVC $20 average.
  6. The spacers in a cast control are hard. I don’t see them being harmed. As for drags I think it depends on the material. That mushy dartanium stuff shimano uses can mash down and stick. Carbontex won’t be hurt. Spring washers may be weakened if left compressed for long periods. Between trips I wouldn’t worry about it but for seasonal storage why not loosen things.
  7. lol, no fortunately(?) I’ve seen a lot of the gotchas and developed practices to avoid these problems......kinda...sorta...mostly
  8. Good job. If you ever get stuck or just want to kick around thoughts you know where to find me.
  9. Sometimes you can bang them out then you’ll get that one with the stripped screw or corroded or with 20yr old grease and dirt gummed up.
  10. Line rating and all other rod “specs” are 100% subjective and strictly the opinion of the manufacturer. Of these subjective labels line rating is the least useful for bass applications. Ignore it.
  11. Over a decade and hundreds of reels I’ve seen one catastrophic AR failure and that was in an abused musky reel. Redundant AR is exactly that.
  12. Imo boat flipping fish is unnecessary and abusive to both equipment and the fish. My favorite thing about MLF when it started was the fish landing penalty. If you absolutely must lift a fish with the rod, hold it parallel to the water to maximize deadlift capacity.
  13. I’ll be happy to help you. You can contact me through my website (click on my logo) or directly at mlawson@delawarevalleytackle.com 973-459-2835 Mike
  14. When I think of “over greasing “ I envision casting reels with grease coating the spool bearings and shaft negatively affecting casting and maybe gunked up sliding clutch parts which doesn’t show up right out of the box.
  15. There are no industry standards or definitions for any of the label designations. This is important to keep in mind comparing across brands and even across models within brands.
  16. It means whatever they want it to mean. It’s a made up subjective designation. So are Med, MH etc.
  17. Odd that their flagship reel doesn’t include the bearing supported pinion touted on other models.
  18. I had a customer whose reel corroded from saltwater use. I asked Lews about warranted parts. I received a phone call they replaced the whole reel with a more expensive model appropriate for the application. I thought that was really cool.
  19. Why does it matter how many times the handle spins? That’s not how reels are used. That’s not a mistake or defect. Oil won’t stay put inside the pinion. Be prepared to oil it regularly. Hopefully you didn’t degrease the gears as well.
  20. How many reels are you doing? You can clean the spool mounted one without removing it.
  21. I’m not sure if I’m looking at moisture under the epoxy or glare from the lighting. The epoxy doesn’t look terrible other than being on the heavy side.
  22. I use Boca pliers to press the pin flush then push it out with the hedgehog tool. Sometimes they are just too tight.
  23. Significantly longer rods will cast the same weight farther but not lighter weights in general. Look at the lure weight rating and the sweet spot is usually somewhere near the mid range.
  24. I’m the first to admit it ain’t rocket science nor magic. On the other hand it’s not for everyone. Lots of “got-chas” and just when you think you’ve seen them all....
