Swimbaits
Lake Fork Tackle makes a swim bait called the magic shad. It is a jointed plastic bait. They are affordable if you are not sure what to start with. I have some and like them.

Bait monkey is biting everyone
I think I am about to get bit. I have been hearing those voices again. Something bad might happen tonight when my wife goes out and the monkey and I are home alone with an alcoholic beverage. Yea, the monkey likes to drink and act a fool with my credit card. He has the card # memorized. I hope I can come up with a plan between now and then.

two piece rods ?
I don't care for them. I have used them in the past and don't think they have the sensitivity that a 1pc has.

I'm an idiot sometimes
I was fishing on a bridge leaning on the concrete, I hooked a fish and was reeling it, when I got the fish to the bridge I did not want to put the stress of the fishes weight totally on the rod tip b/c it was a 10 drop to the water. Not thinking I grabbed the line in front of my rod tip to take the weight off the rod so I could pull the rest of the line and fish up by hand. I set my drag loose so I could put the rod on the ground without moving my position and possibly having my line rub against the concrete wall. For some reason after I loosened the drag I let go of the rod.......that I was still holding over the bridge. I ended up landing the fish then had to peel off a ton of line to get my rod back which I did.

White jigs?
Are you swimming the jig to mimic a fleeing shad or are you using it like you would normally use a jig and making it look like an injured shad?

Spinning Vs. Baitcasting
You have time to learn, even if its not on the water. I learned in my back yard. I would fish the tourney with the spinning rig b/c you are comfortable with. Don't give up on trying to learn. Personally I do not own a spinning combo. I use all baitcasters b/c I feel that I have more control of my casts and can feel sensation better.

White jigs?
I have 2 jigs that are all white, 1 with a silicone skirt with rattles and 1 without rattles with deer hair. I have intended to use these for quite some time now with a reaction innovation smallie beaver in the white trash color. I can't decide what kind of water to use them in, stained or clear. I rationalize why they might work in both water color conditions but always reach for another color all together. Any advise, clear/stained or both?

I was not impressed this year either, however it probably won't stop me from going next year as I stated previously. I had fun.

A question for non-boater tourney anglers.
As for tackle storage, I never bring anything larger than what will fit between my legs or in a locker on the boat. Soft side bags I have found to be the best.

Should I join a bass club?
Absolutly you should. You will learn a lot and someday get a boat and be able to teach others.

Just got a phone call I didn't want.
Sorry for your lose. This just happend to a guy in my club. He was actually storing it inside some kind of shrink wrap tent in a storage facility. He would check on the boat 3x a week. One day he went to do his check, someone slit the side of the tent and cleaned him totally out. I think he is working with his ins co on replacements.

How to spend $300?
I would get a good rod, reel, and line. You can get a good abu garcia revo baitcaster for around $150 which will leave you $130 for a rod and $20 for line. Remember, without quality equipment you will not get quality accurate casts. The only thing between you and the fish is your line so it needs to be quality. Good equipment is not cheap, however it works and lasts longer than cheap stuff if it is maintained and kept in good condition.

your dream lake?
I have a list of lakes to someday fish that are scattered all over the country so picking a dream lake is tough. I am leaning toward Falcon though.

Pitching and Flipping
Which part of what tech do you not understand? PM me if you want. I can't say its "easy" to learn but once you get the idea, its very "learnable". Pratice is key. I do reccomend the backyard buckets.

According to Ish...
I always use an EWG unless rigging wackey. I do belive that my hookup % is less than 95% if not higher. I can't remember the last time one got away.
