If you dont have heavy cover in your lake, I would crank with 10lb seaguar abrazx. Depth of your bait can also be dictated by casting distance. If your fishing offshore try a 7'6 cranking stick or longer. A slow gear ratio reel will help as well. I like the revo winch for my cranking.

As said a couple times 40 is pretty heavy on a spinning reel. You could use 40 on a baitcasiter if you looking for distance. 15, 20 lb should do the trick. Stay with the smackdown it is an 8 strand braid.

Denail Kovert 7'2 mh should do you some good. It does alot of heavy lifting for me!

Try some of Wilson Fraziers Braid aid. Its a line and lure conditioner but its a wax.

Dude you can get a awesome rod under $150. Check out the Denali 7'2 mh kovert spinning rod. I throw shakey heads, drop shots, small jigs, and wacky rigs. Cant go wrong here.

I've never used any Kistler products but I own several Denali rods. In fact I bought a couple from rippin-lips (thanks again bud). To me the rods feel just right especially the Kovert series worm and jig rods. The Denali Jadewood in my opinion is worth more than the price tag they have on it. Customer service is awesome. With the way companies are ran these days top notch customer service is what keeps me around and coming back. I would go with the Jadewood. Never seen the Kistler don't need to.

I have begun skipping 1/2 oz jigs vs 3/8 because i can get it back further under docks. And get the same if not bigger bites. Try trimming your skirt a bit and try a smaller trailer like the rage tail menace and see if that helps.

Well you have the Denali Jadewood 7'6 xh, Jadewood 7'11 xh, and the Kovert 7'8 xh all in your price range.
