  1. I also use the one Catt suggested. I am a shallow water fisherman so it stays in my boat. It's the way I move my boat around in the lily pads & eel grass. It's quiet & I feel it helps by not running the fish off. Can't sneak up on a gator though.
  2. NBR nailed it, try it on a carolina rig & hold on.
  3. I use glass beads all the time on a carolina rig & with any creature bait I use on a texas rig. With a worm it depends on the water color.
  4. Catt I am surprised that your total on a spinnerbait is not higher, do you fish it as much as the others? Over here that is a big fish bait. especially in the spring in the shallow water, 1-3 ft.
  5. Granny there are probley 2 reasons you did not get into a all male club. Wives & bathroom issues. When I was club fishing they had a rule that you could not leave the boat & that could be tough in a 6 hour day if your drinking water or coffee. As for me I would not care for I don't have a wife & the bathroom problem would be the ladies choice, but if I had to go I'm going.
  6. It depends on how you fish. If you fish shallow most of the time(8' or less)I go with the power pole other wise it would be the hummingbird.
  7. I have been using Don Iovinos reaper with a split shot & the cow tongue weightless for several years. They are a great spring time bait.
  8. In 2008 I bought a 2008 Ranger Z-21 with a Yamaha 250 HPDI That was a loaded dealer demo. Minn Kota 101,recess foot control, 4 bank Minn Kota on board Charger 15 amps per bank,10" Bobs Machine Hyd Jack Plate. Power Pole, top of the line Lowrance electronics, plus more. It came with a 5yr. warranty on the motor, lifetime on the boat & if I sell it a 10 yr. for the buyer, 3 yr on everything attached to the boat. 26K below retail. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time for I was not looking for a boat As I had a perfectly good Ranger 185vs which I sold in 2009. In this market you can find many good deals. By the way I have no problems with my rig except for the customer support from Lowrance Electronics. With the help of a couple of my fishing buddies we got it figured out. Operator problem, but the tech would not help. He told me the hds had just come & there was no service on any other units. Mine were 6 months old. I will upgrade at the end of this year but it will be 2 high end Hummingbirds. I will use a lead line before I ever buy another Lowrance unit.
  9. The fish are still there & will feed at sometime or react to your bait. I would say it's up to you on how much heat you can stand. Remember to drink plenty of water.
  10. I had Lowrance units for years. A few years ago I bought 2 new Lowrance units & after 2 months I needed some help, When I called I was told they no longer serviced those units, they had switch to the HDS units. I just needed some help to understand how to use a feature but the service person would not help. I'll never owned another Lowrance product or have anything good to say about them, their customer service is terrible.
  11. You might be getting rear ended. Are you fishing on a flat or along the bank?

  17. I see a lot of people bow hunting for carp here on Santee Cooper. In fact there boats are rigged with flood lights, generators, & some have platforms. They fish mostly at night. Check with your DNR to make sure it's ok, if it is go for it.
  18. I have the platinum east chip. It has 1' contour lines & 3D. It works very well for me on Santee Cooper.
  19. Bob P said "I disagree with the proposition that crankbait bites are hard/obvious and therefore rod sensitivity is irrelevant. There are too many times when I've set the hook on a bass because a graphite rod let me know the bait had stopped wobbling, and without feeling any other indications of a strike. This happens more often than most guys realize". I agree with that.If you watch Glen Lau's production of Big Mouth you will see why. That is why I use a good sensitive graphite rod. They are pricy but will make a big difference. With that being said not everyone can afford to run out & spend a lot of money on a rod. Get the best you can afford, don't skimp because it's a cranking rod.

  22. In the past I have use the VS spinning reels. I found them to be very good reels. I still have them but don't use spinning gear much anymore. I know a bunch of the salt water guys around here that swear by there off shore stuff.

I think Charlie Brewer(dad) has past & his son, Charlie Brewer is running the company.
  24. I have a total of 7. 2 are 5'2" spinning rods made by Shimano ML 2522, 2 Shimano 5'6" casting rods ML 1551, 1 Berkley Limited Edition casting rod LE-15 & 2 custom built casting rods 5'6" on Shikari blanks. I carry the last 2 in the boat with me but don't use them as much as I did back in the day.
  25. Barron here is some contact info, this should get you a correct answer. http://www.lews.com/contact.htm There is a good article on this reel on TT.
