  1. Between the Antares DC & the Calais DC I own 7 & would rate them a 12. You will not go wrong by purchasing one.
  2. I have a Minn Kota 101 on a Ranger Z-21. I run 4 Interstate Batteries 3 for the T/M & a cranking battery. They have been in the boat since November of 2008. I keep them watered with distilled water & plug the 4 bank on board charger in as soon as I get back. I leave it plug in until I go again which is about 4 times a week. So far so good.
  3. I bought a Ranger Z-21 with a 250 HP Yamaha HPDI that was loaded from a dealer that sponsored a pro that had less than 60 hours. It was not titled so I got the extended warranty. I had them hook the computer to the engine to the engine & it checked out. This was in 08 & I still own the boat. Ranger has fixed some minor things that have popped up along the way so all is good. I would buy one again.
  4. Interstate Marine are good batteries And 4 years is a good life span.
  5. Talked to a buddy in Pineville KY who is friends with the Ranger dealer in London KY. They were at the Ranger meeting in Flippin in July & told him there were no major changes. I was thinking of thinking of selling my 08 Z-21 & up grading but now I think I'll wait another year.
  6. I bought a Ranger demo from a dealer that was used for tournament fishing. It was less than a year old & was loaded. It had not been titled so I was the 1st owner & got the full warranties on the boat & motor. I paid way less for the rig & it is still running strong.
  7. If you get it air tight make sure to put a couple of pin holes in the head so the hooks get exposed when the fish hits it.
  8. I have several of them & use them all the time & i agree with what hmongkidBee had to say.
  9. I have been stuck since 1975 when I purchased a Bantam Magnumlite Plus 2001 with fightin' drag. I now have between 65 & 70 Shimano reels. The one's I like the best are the Calais series they are very smooth & solid. The 2nd one would be the Curado B series they have stood the test of time. I have up graded the bearings & drag system on them though. I have tried other brands along the way but always ended up with Shimano's on my deck.
  10. If the battery that you already have is more than a year old I would not hook them together for the older one will draw the newer one down. Get a Perko switch so you can select one battery or the other or even both if you need to.
  11. I am single & retired so I usually get out 3 to 4 days a week unless the weather is bad & a lake advisory is in effect. In the spring & fall it's all day. In the summer it's early mornings until about noon & then the evenings until dark 30. The winter it's from about 10 or 11 until 3 or 4. In the spring & fall I try to get out 5 to 6 days a week. I am normally on the water between 215 & 235 days a year.
  12. I fish spinnerbaits all year long & have been doing so for 40 years. Glenn's video is excellent & one should take heed. I do differ a little for I use 4 styles of blades, turtleback, willow, indiana, & colorado in some configuration of the blades. I only use gold or silver blades & on some I'll put 1 of each color. I don't use trailers I use skirts with long tails. The weights I use are from 3/16 to 1 oz. The rods I use are medium fast for 3/16 thru 1/4 oz,. medium heavy for 3/8 & 1/2 oz., & heavy for 3/4 & 1oz. I don't change configurations on the water what I did was to call War Eagle & have them make the configurations & colors I wanted so I just tie a different one on if needed. I always carry 3 rigged.
  13. tmier what are you asking me?
  14. I have been fishing the Koppers 1/4 oz. frog for over a month now. I have very good results so far, I have caught L/M bass up to 8lb. I was afraid I would catch mostly dinks on it but that has not been the case. Wednesday I caught 23 bass & 17 were over the 14" limit. A jackfish tore it up the other day So I went by Dicks to pick up a few more & ended up buying several of the 3/4 oz. also. I am going to try them in the morning. I like the way Koppers frogs sit in the water & they do catch fish. They are giving my favorite frog the Boze Sumo a run for the money. I do like that Koppers has 3 different sizes where Boze only has one. They have earned a place in my boat. Try the plop plop fizz fizz method.
  15. Well said Ghoti!!
  16. I start fishing them when the water temp hits 50 degrees. I use Yo-Zuri hybrid up to 30# test depending on how thick the grass is.
  17. I did not spend a thing. I very seldom buy anything from BPS anymore. Their C/C is thru Bank Of America & they are part of the finical problems we are having. It's called greed so BPS is off my list because of Bank of America. I did inform BPS of that & they chose not to respond.
  18. I do use a M/H 7' custom rod built on a Shikari blank with a Shimano Antares DC for all around use.
  19. Yes. If there is a lake wind advisory in effect it is wise to stay off it. A couple of week-ends ago we were under a wind advisory & a couple of friends decided to camp on one of the islands & fish over the week-end. When they did not arrive home Sunday evening their wives reported them missing. They found the boat that night or the next day, the first body at the end of this past week & the second one this past Sunday. They called for winds to be 15 to 25 with gusts to 40 & it was every bit of that. When you do not heed the warnings you not only put yourself at risk but your family also. Plus the people that have to go look for you. The fish will be there another day but you might not be. Another thing, you might want to check your boat insurance to see if it pays if you rip a trolling motor or depth finder off, hit a stump or a floater.
  20. I use to have one that mounted on my boat. I found it to be helpful to elimate water, the probe mounted at the bottom of the transom so it only read just below the surface. I was quite suprised of the different readings i would get in a small cove. I also had a spare probe into the deeper water to check it. When I sold that boat I wish I would have taken it off For now I can't find one. It was made by Lake Systems Division In Mt. Vernon Mo. I guess they are out of business because I did not find them.
  21. I had a Minn Kota 3 bank 10 amp for 5 years on my last boat & it was working fine when I sold the rig. I have a Minn Kota 4 bank 15 amp charger for 3 1/2 years now & it's working fine. The only time my charger is not plugged in is if I am on the water.
  22. If Jimmy Houston is going to be there you might want to wear waders.
  23. I have been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid, & ultra soft for a long time. I also use Gamma from time to time. I have found to be excellent line. I do use KVD line & lure if it has be on the reel with no use in a while.
