  1. No! Your catch ratio will probley be less than 1% you need to get good hook sets. Remember you have 2 hooks to get set, I use a heavy action & in real thick cover a 2X. You want to keep the fish up on top to keep it from wrapping your line up in the cover so you need power & a high speed reel & a good line. On single hook baits(toads, buzzbaits, snakes, etc) I will use a m/h rod in normal cover. My rule of thumb is for heavy cover use a heavy action rod & a high speed reel. Hopefully with some practice this will get your catch ratio to 65-70%. I use medium action rods for baits with treble hooks unless I am floating it over grass then I switch to a m/h rod with a high speed reel. This works for me but I am sure others will have different opinions. Hope this was helpful to you.
  2. If you fish out of a bass boat here you go.
  3. I have not had a problem getting on Jp Angler Lure Shop. I have checked it several times yesterday & just now.
  4. If you use glue on your frog put a pin hole up around the frogs head so the it can compress upon the strike.
  5. Fish the edges 1st. Then use a push pole to move around from spot to spot dropping your anchor quietly(noise is not your friend) at each spot. Make sure you tie a jug to your anchor rope in case you have to go get a fish. If there is little or no wind let the boat drift. Move it around as needed with a push pole as your trolling motor makes a lot of noise moving thru heavy weed cover.
  6. I hope you have a combo license otherwise DNR must bust for squirrel hunting. Instead of getting a new just go in the tree & get it.
  7. No. I wait until I get to were I am going to start fishing, then I look at the conditions(ex: which way the wind is blowing, etc.) Then I'll make my choice.
  8. I have a Minn Kota 4 bank on board charger & leave my Interstate batteries on the charger 24/7 when not on the water. Read the instructions on your charger to see if it floats your batteries when fully charged.
  9. This is a good article on how to locate fish in the wind. I think the article by Greg Hines had a little info on how to fish on a windy day.
  10. I guess my question is answered about the legs. When they get torn up I'll try a skirt. I do like the body style & weight so if the skirt works I'll buy a few more. Thanks again for all the replies.
  11. Thank You for the replies. I bought 1 of these the other day because of the leg style & weight. I use the 3:16 No Bull Frog which has a similar leg style. For the lighter frogs I pretty much use the Boze Sumo Frog. It will take on water also but after every 2nd or 3rd I just give it a squeeze & all is good. I like the softness of the Combat & Sumo frogs it will expose the hooks easily when the fish take it. On my other brands of frogs I put a couple of pin holes on top of the head to help let the air out of it for better hook ups when it is hit, it helps some. For some reason when I put the brand name of the Combat frog the other day It was changed to *** after I posted it. I Do like the style of the combat frog I just hope the legs don't tear up easy for I didn't see any replacement legs on there web site. Again thanks for your replies. SC Bassin
  12. I picked-up a *** Combat frog yesterday & am wondering if anyone that uses *** frogs has had any trouble with the legs staying attached?
  13. Mine is a 2008 model & I had to change the battery in the control box when that happened to me.
  14. I am with J Francho on this, . " I don't find them to be the great thing everyone made them out to be".
  15. I use Sea Foam in every tank in my boat, car, & truck.
  16. Makes me wonder. I just found it's a 30 day promotion & I think it runs out Tomorrow 4/30.
  17. It looks similar to a Swampers. spinnerbait. If you bought a long time ago they may have changed the head design a little.
  18. I use a 7 1/2 ft med fast action rod for both flippin & froggin. My reason for doing so is what DVT had to say.
  19. I run a 2007, 250 hp Yamaha HPDI & their engineers told me the same thing that Way To Slow & Al had to say in their post. To run 87 octane because of the carbon build up. I have been using ethanol free 89 octane & adding Sea Foam to every tank. I have now found a station that carries Ethanol free 87 octane So I am going to switch.
  20. I have the progressive lens in 1 pair & the polarized in another pair. They work much better when fishing.
  21. I went to the Forrest Wood Cup in August of 2014 in Columbia SC & I would not waste my time going to another. I went to the 2008 Bassmaster Classic in Greenville SC , it was head & shoulders above the Cup..I did not get the chance to go this year but wish I could have.
  22. I have never seen something like that on a boat seat. It looks like a shock mount that we used on our equipment on to help reduce the noise transmission to to the hull & to reduced the shock effect on the equipment upon being depth charged.
  23. I would have a hard time shopping at that store if I was treated like that.. I doubt if BPS will be much better for most of there will not know much. Your best bet is to ask questions here. If I am fishing heavy cover I prefer a high speed reel (7.1:1 or higher ). This helps to move the fish away from the cover so it will not wrap you up. I also use that speed when I bottom fish worm, jig, etc.For shallow crankbaits , jerkbaits etc, I use a 6.1:1 or so. For deeper Crankbaits & spinner baits I use the 5.1:1. There are some good online stores that are helpful also. In another I'll be on the water most of the time so if you have further questions pm me,for I don't spend a lot of time on the fishing sites. I just check for messages.
