  1. If you already have the Fenwick line & like them & had a St.Croix & did not like it, why change. It's all about what you like, not someone else.
  2. I bought a small piece from my Ranger dealer
  3. I have 4 of the Shimano Scorpion 1001 Reels. These are the older red reels you ask about, they have a 6.2:1 gear ratio & the 4x4 SVS system. These reels are excellent & well built as stated above. It's hard to find a good one , e-bay would be your best bet.
  4. Save that money until Black Friday
  5. I change my 3 T/M batteries at the same time. Cranking battery as needed. I get between 4 to 5 years out of them.I keep them watered & the on board charger on 24/7.
  6. I hope they are ok. I have dealt with them a couple of times & they nice people & great to deal with.
  7. I have rods from 5'6 to 7'6 and use them all from time to time depending on what type of cover I am fishing.
  8. By all means put one on. I have the kind that has a plastic bottom with a valve on the bottom of it. I can easily tell if I get water or dirt in my fuel.
  9. When I retired I went fishing 5 days a week weather permitting. Prior to that I read a lot & took notes. I also purchased good electronics & learned how to use them, after a couple of years I was considered an above average fisherman. You will learn a lot by watching what is going on around you, the weather, which way the wind is blowing, water temp, This comes with time on the water.
  10. I have a Sportsman on a 2008 Ranger Z-21 & have never had it not hold. I fish on Santee Cooper & it does get windy.
  11. For Frogs i have I have switch to Sunline FX-2 When fishing in heavy grass. When fishing in heavy tree cover or rocks I use Gamma or Yo-Zuri copolymer. With that being said I do use either Sunline Shooter or Seaguar Tatsu 80% of the time because the sensitivity is excellent on both lines but in my opinion Tatsu has a slight edge. The FX2 (braid) I use for it's breaking strength & casting distance, I see 90% of the strikes so I don't depend on sensitivity. I have also found that using braid I can cast for better distance, but on a windy day I switch Yo Zuri 30lb test(breaking strength 41.3lb). I don't want to chance a wind knot & end up breaking a rod tip. I used it for years without a problem so I feel I don't lose much.
  12. With the choices provided I would go with the Verado but if it was me I would go with a Yamaha.
  13. Well said Catt
  14. I have a Ranger Z-21 with a 10" jack plate. My previous boat was a Ranger VS-185 with out a jack plate. If you fish a large lake the larger boat is a better choice hands down. There is a couple of places I can' get the Z-21 into that I could get the VS-185 in. The room & storage & large front deck is much better in the Z-21. I like the big rod lockers a lot it's easy to find the rod I want. Hands down it is better fishing fishing platform & a much better rough water boat. Take the boat you have intrest in for a test ride & have the engine put on the computer to check it out
  15. Is it the 521 or 521C & what engine is on it?
  16. The word I received this morning was that when Johnny Morris Got the word they were leaving he was on the plane to meet with them. One of the big problems was that the bean counters at BPS was not happy with the profit margin & were recommending layoffs at the Ranger plant. If you have ever been there you know its like one huge family. That did not set well at all & with other changes it did not go well & they moved on. Once again my source is 50/50 take it for what it is worth. But this does make some sense to me as to why the might leave. Robert I am sorry you sold your boat. I am sure going to keep my 2008 Z-21.
  17. A friend of mine some what in the know(50/50)said quality issues were the problem & that they will have a new company within 7 years.
  18. One must wonder What Johnny Morris is up to. Randy Hopper, Keith Daffron & Mendel Hughes have Resigned from Ranger Boats.
  19. This is probley why BPS has put the store on hold that they were going to build in North Charleston SC. Cabela's has plans to build one just up the road in Summerville. I don't buy from either one anymore for we have a excellent tackle shop at the military rec area at short stay in Moncks Corner SC. & if they don't have it T/W does. I am not so sure it will hurt the avid much as my guess is that they are aware of all the on line stores I am also surprised that BPS is even looking at this unless it's a real bargain The economy is not as good as the gov. would like you to believe just look at the wages. Prices are going up but wages not so much & if this keeps happening people will have to cut back spending & non essential things go first. & I am sure that is looked at. . .
  20. In the Oct/Nov FLW Magazine there in the gear section there is a article about getting the best rod for any frog fishing scenario. I suggest You get a copy & read this article before choosing a rod for frog fishing. It will improve your catch ratio a bunch.Don't worry so much about what brand of rod the pro's use but the spec's. If you want to be serious about frog fishing you need to read this article. . In my last post on this I forgot a 5. It should have said 15% instead of 1%
  21. x2, I had a problem with mine on Monday. Called Tuesday Afternoon, my part has been shipped & will be here Friday
