I made these up for fishing weedy waters up here and love the rig. After seeing the bobber stop idea, I'm gonna have to add it to my line before tying this on. Thanks for posting that @Catt!

In a nut shell, yes. However, here in the Northeast the waters will start to turn cold fast in the next 6 weeks or so, so I've been making some inline spinners to do some multi species fishing.

I try an go as long as the waster is soft. I can't fish much during the spring and summer with my son's baseball schedule, but this time of year I try and get out as much as I can. Tactics don't change much in early fall, pretty much what you did in spring and summer will work. You may find that as the fall season moves along and the waters cooling, there will be more forage about, hence more active bass. This is a great time for horizontal presentations - Crankbaits, spinnerbaits. topwaters, etc. As the water cools to the low fifties, you can pretty much slow down and use those bottom baits - worms/soft plastics, jigs, etc. It's pretty much spring iceout in reverse. For me, early fall is bass fishing looking for the big ones filling their bellies for the long winter months under hard water. As fall progresses and the bass bite starts to slow down, I switch to more inline spinners and spoons looking for anything that will bend a rod. I'd rather spend time catching something than a cold.

@DogBone_384, glad to hear Ponkie gave a nice one up. I can't comment on the size of the fish, pics are always tough to estimate with and I'd hate to over or under estimate. I've seen some real escalating arguments on this site in the past with peeps guessing weights. It's too bad to, when you catch a nice one like you have, you should be happy sharing your excitement with your friends. For whatever reason there's always one who has to be the rain on the parade. Beauty of a fish though...Congrats I used the same deadstick technique this past weekend, glad to see the pattern is confirmed.

It's kinda like the straw that broke the camels back type of thing. Cool water is dense water. As the surface water cools, it sinks and mixes in with the layer below the thermocline creating a more uniform water temperature from top to bottom. There may be some temperature differences, but for the most part, it's pretty consistent. Not sure why it's called "turnover", it's not like the 70* temps are now on the bottom and the colder water on top. Wouldn't make sense, would it? It should be called lake "mixing" as the 2 layers of water are at the same densities/temps. Depending on lake shape and depth, the turnover could take days or months. To know if it turned over, the temps should be consistent from top to bottom. You may also smell a bit of a stench from the decaying matter rising from the bottom...hence the murky water during this period of time.

I may be wrong, but I think it's a little early for the turnover. Maybe the dirty water was from the storm that passed thru Friday night into Saturday? Anyway, more stable weather is coming. so I think you'll see the bite come back.

Haven't been out in, well, forever. Went out last Saturday after Dorian passed thru. Afternoon turned out to be a gorgeous day. I tied on a Homemade #4 Indiana spinner figuring the fish would still be locked down and of course a blue bird day wouldn't help. I was hoping at this point for anything to bite. Anyway, not a sniff on a bait that will usually produce at least a follower. Water was clear with a chop on the surface from the remaining winds from Dorian. I went to a Swim Senko in Black w/Blue Flake. After what seemed like an hour, I finally got a couple of bites, no take. Got a little bird's nest on a cast into the wind. After picking thru the bird's nest, I looked back at the water only to find my bait had moved...significantly. I thought it was current, but there was no way the current was that strong. Then it dawned on me. Deadstick. Next cast, deadsticked for about 2-3 minutes. The line at the water surface intersection dropped about a foot. I felt nothing. reeled down not even a quarter turn and knew I needed to set the hook. Turned out to be a 2 1/2 lb LM. I continued on for about another hour and a half or so before I had to leave and got 3 more in the same weight range dead sticking. All fish were on a second weedline from shore ... a good long cast away ... and colors used were Black w/ Blue Flake & Smoke w/Purple & Black Flake. Went back yesterday and ended up repeating the pattern. Supposed to be a beauty of a week so I'm hoping to get out at some point. Good luck all.

I was unable to fish the past few years due to supporting my son's baseball progression and game/practice schedule. This year I decided to try and carve time out for myself and fish more and went totally back to the basics. T-Rig worms, lipless cranks and spinnerbaits. I went to Disney in February and caught fish on swim senkos, so that was the bait for this year. 5" & 3.5" Black Blue, Smoke w/Black & Grape Flake, Watermelon w/Red & Green Flake So far all have caught bass equally well. That looks sweet. Must be another Toledo Bend Special. I gotta get down there and fish that lake. On the bucket list.

For me, after a blow up and miss, I'd kill the retrieve for a few seconds before starting up. A lot of times the bass will try to stun the fish (blow-up) and circle the wagons for the kill. If he circles the wagons and still doesn't button up, a follow up with a trick stick will get em

@Bdnoble84, I think that #5 might be a little too big for a 1/4 oz. #4 for me is pushing it and I have to really concentrate to keep my retrieve as slow as possible. Here a good starting point. Where this thread is a couple of years old, my post probably doesn't matter, but here it goes: Some great answers in this thread, so I will only say this: If you're trying to "match the hatch" so to speak, shad imitations might be out. I have never seen shad in lakes and ponds up here in the northeast. If you're just trying to catch fish, then shad imitations will definitely work.

Fishing in FLA back in late February in Disney. I went out with a guide for 2 hours and started at 1:00 pm. Mostly sunny skies and was warned that the bite was very slow. Only 1 was boated the whole day. I got 10 fish. I'm going from memory here, but 1 was on a white fluke fishing over weeds, I think it was hydrilla (I'm botanically challenged), the other 9 were on a hump covered with the same vegetation. The 9 were caught on 5 different colored swim senkos. Smoke, black blue, pumpkin, a motor oil type color (not sure what Yamamoto Baits calls it) and watermelon. My guide caught 4 on fluke, spinnerbait and lipless crank. My retrieve was a slow, worm hopping type retrieve, letting it fall into pockets in the vegetation. I don't know how my guide was retrieving his lures, but I'm guessing it wasn't a steady retrieve. Was it the color? Was it the presentation? Was it the location? Color didn't matter that day. I'm guessing the combination of location and presentation won out. I could have just caught it right when the fish went into feeding mode, who knows. I think color matters on some days, presentation on others and location on all days. Sometimes it's a combination of 2 of 3 or all 3. Personally, I really like the dumb luck days. Very relaxing to me.
