Gonna be employing a similar technique using a wooden egg and bucktail. You'll notice the jig hooked to the nail. When hooked to a nail you can use the egg as a weight and the jig won't helicopter during the cast. Once it hits the water, the jig simply falls straight down. Use during a windy day with a chop on the water. The weight of the wood egg will give you distance and the chop on the water will give your lure of choice natural action. Win, win. ?

Not to sound like Rodney Dangerfield, but if I weighed my gear a ticket would come out of the scale that says; "one at a time". My boat is moored in an ocean bay, All rods and tackle come off and rinsed with fresh water after every trip. It's a 1/4 mile walk from my home to the boat so I only bring what I need for the day. My gear is too heavy to haul back and forth.

If our overnight temps stay in the low 20*’s then an ice auger will be what works best. ? Good luck @N Florida Mike.

Saltwater bucktail jig fishing is a big part of what I do during the summer. I’m in the process of finishing up making 42 of them. I have 32 more unpainted heads on the way. I’ll be busy. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Yes, I have one on my Edgewater I used it once last year on a hot day. It was nice for that particular day but like @rboat mentions above, it got in the way fishing with it.

I’d go rage menace. I also do better slow rolling spinnerbaits, so I would slowly swim the jig on the bottom.

I haven't jumped off that bridge yet and I have 42 bucktail jigs laying on my table waiting to have the eyes installed. I better come up with something quick, that table is supposed to be used for Christmas. ?

I found that keeping Part A and Part B in my pockets for 20 min or so while I was finishing wraps or setting up for finish really helped keep the air bubbles out. If an air bubble did happen to form on a thread wrap, then a standard hair dryer worked great on a rotating rod.

You're in the minority of down sizing hooks. I mostly fish lipless cranks waaaaay more than their lipped cousins. I typically use as large a hook I can get away with on the belly and possibly downsize the tail hook. The only time I would downsize the belly hook is if I'm constantly snagging vegetation. The lipped cranks with the way they swim - nose down, with a wider body tends to snag at the lip far more often than the belly hook. Again, maybe a down size to the tail hook to avoid snags.

Yep! I got you by 5 years Darren and you are spot on. I would like to add that you lose hair where you need it and grow hair where you don't need it. ?

Just looking to see what's the best way to store bucktail? Loose bags? Zip Lock? Plastic wrap and mummified? ? Thank you.
