  1. As you know, all whiskeys are cut with water before bottling. The easiest way I have been explained of the process for Beam Devils' cut is this: After extracting the bourbon from the barrel, they put said amount of water back into the barrel and put it onto a "giant paint shaker." Let that run for 24hrs, and then use this water as part of what they cut the bourbon with. This water extracts the charred wood flavors from the barrel, thus giving Beam Devil's Cut the wood characteristics you taste. Jeff
  2. I have had most. The 20yr is the best bang for your buck imo. The 23 is something special but the price reflects that. Will expand on these thoughts later when not on my phone. RLR has had all of them except the 13 I believe, so he is a good one to ask as well. Jeff
  3. Standard pricing here was 10 $45 12 $60 13 $80 15 $130 20 $150 23 $275 If I remember correctly off the top of my head........ Jeff
  4. Good luck Mark. Let us know if you find any and how much they are gouging it for! Jeff http://insiderlouisville.com/news/2013/11/04/pappy-craze-creates-bourbon-black-market/
  5. And before someone points out that Bourbons such as Evan Williams and Jim Beam are charcoal filtered..... There is a difference. The bourbons referred to here as well as MANY more are filtered through "activated charcoal" Activated charcoal is nearly pure carbon, created by heating wood to over 5000(?) degrees in an oxygen rich environment. Many bourbons are filtered through this to prevent "chill haze." Activated charcoal is also common in water filters. The sugar-maple charcoal used by JD is more like the charcoal used on your barbeque . The wood was only heated to a few hundred degrees for this charcoal, leaving some minerals in with the carbon. The unaged whiskey is slowly filtered through 10-foot tall containers of the sugar-maple charcoal to give the whiskey its taste. It takes days to work its way though these containers. Jeff
  6. Just some food for thought on this Tennessee Whiskey vs. Bourbon debate.... While this is only a debate brought by some, and you will not find much in writing about this, but some people I have talked to reserve the opinion that the "sugar maple charcoal" used in the Lincoln County Process adds artificial flavoring to the whiskey, and therefor excludes it from the qualifications of a true bourbon. Jeff
  7. So hard to pick just 1! Just sayin! Jeff
  8. Welcome to the forums Scott! Jeff
  9. My jig rods have a Chronarch e7, a Metanium XG, and a Chronarch ci4+ on order......... Something with fast line pick-up and that you like. I am als playing with the new Pinnacle Optimus XiHS. It has a flipping switch which I like, and is making a good first impression on me! Jeff
  10. It is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it! Jeff
  11. I use 7.3/1 reels for more than just topwater fishing. Anything that uses the rod to move the bait as opposed to the reel, I use the highest speed IPT I can get. When you use the rod to move the bait, the reel is only used to take up slack line, and in this case, I want to get it taken up as soon as possible to hopefully set the hook! Any plastic on the bottom flipping/pitching jigs topwater jerkbait Jeff
  12. God that you are feeling better! Jeff

  19. 1. Have confidence in what you are doing. And that means, where you are and the presentation you are using(not the color) 2. Put in your time, learning everything you can about the fishery. From the smallest of the food chain to the largest ( bait to bass, at least down South) 3. Make sure everything is as close to perfect as possible. I never want to see a trophy lost because of something that could have been prevented! Jeff

  22. Lake Baccarac for the last 2 yrs and hopefully many more!!!! Jeff
  23. If you like good Bourbon/ American Whiskey, I recommend trying Laphroig Quarter Cask. They age it in a smaller cask, and therefor gives it a little more wood on the pallet. Seems to round out the "typical peaty, mossy, iodine" tastes that some do not like in a scotch. And being that you liked the double black, this would make sense! Jeff
  24. Hey you! Just for clarification..... "Bourbon whisjy" can be whatever you said, but "bourbon whiskey" has to be at least 51% corn AND be aged for at least 2 years! Double black is a good recommendation, as is black bush and Bernheim! What say you of this "yac?" Jeff
  25. Welcome to the forums! Jeff
