  1. Going to be releasing 1.7 MILLION CFM out of the dam of the lake I mentioned in my first post in this thread today. The little river below the lake cannot hold anywhere near that amount of water. There's a small town a very short distance below the lake, on the rivers edge where it bends a few times. I'd be evacuating my home if I was them. 38.241111, -95.755010
  2. Seaguar Finesse Fluoro is basically Tatsu and fishes excellent on spinning gear. Would be worth checking out as well. It's even on sale right now on TW.
  3. Mine's only 45" and I still hit the dang thing if it's not lowered all the way down. I hope I'm still a few years away from needing a new one, but another option and more competition couldn't hurt. Really been a fan of my 93SV's (which I know are dinosaurs now in the electronics world), so I'd be pretty interested to see what they come out with.
  4. I picked up a Norman's NXS this past week in the "Nutter Shad" color. It's a pretty sweet looking little crank and supposed to run right in that 10-14 foot depth that is about the max I like to crank so that works perfect. The lip design looks like it's going to get down quick and hopefully maximize the amount of time it's in the effective range. Now I just need it to stop raining so the fish can get off the banks and I can actually use it!
  5. Found another 90 Whopper Plopper a couple weeks ago, bone colored. Changed hooks and straight into my box. I've now found 9 ploppers in less than a year, I guess the benefit to them being so popular.
  6. I've tried several and settled on the KastKing Sol Armis gloves. They've been very durable and have extra protection in a few spots on the palm and fingers that have saved my hands from countless fins and gill plates. Price is good and they have some nice color options. They also fit my hands nicely, which I've had issue with, apparently I have short fingers. Cabela's Guidewear gloves were, surprisingly, the worst gloves I've tried. They were expensive and barely lasted a few months before the seams started to come unsewn.
  7. 9 times out of 10, I'm fishing to catch quality fish. It may not always look like it, but some of the lakes I fish, the best option to catch a big fish is to go with a small bait due to fishing pressure or it's just what they choose to eat at certain times of the year. Now if it's been a long dry spell of bad fishing trips, I might go somewhere to just try to smack a bunch a little ones just to get my confidence back, but that's a pretty rare occasion.
  8. My boat will run 55, but I usually cruise around 40 and it does that with ease. I don't usually make long runs, and big waves usually keep me from putting the pedal down, but when I get the chance I will because the sooner I get there, the sooner I fish, which is what I'm out there to do.
  9. No, but helps. Just like you can easily fish a jig on a 6.2:1 ratio reel, just isn't the best tool for the job. Something about frogs and toads, fish really seem to take off when they eat them and when you hook them, so a fast reel helps a lot in keeping them stuck.
  10. I just think there needs to be some way to incorporate in incentive to target larger fish, some kind of points system maybe. I still enjoy watching, but after watching a guy catch 20 1.5 pound fish on a dropshot, it really begins to drag. Sometimes the drama still plays out if 2 or more guys are catching them at the same time, and that's what keeps people watching I imagine.
  11. Took Mrs. Blue out Friday night for a fancy dinner. Can't believe she's put up with my shenanigans for over 9 years now.
  12. Crappie wouldn't leave me alone this week. Tons on a Ned rig, which isn't unusual Caught a toad crappie on a 1.5 I didn't take a picture of for some reason, but it was about a 14" male white crappie. Working on my dropshotting a lot this spring and managed to smack a nice black crappie doing it. The boy had to dig is heels into the side of the boat when this little channel cat took off with his Ned rig. Think I might need to put him on some bigger ones on purpose soon and get some video of it.
  13. Saw a video today of a local lake with water coming OVER the top of the flood gates with each wave coming down the lakes and even water being forced through the gates by the pressure. I'd be nervous and angry by the incompetence and failed management by the state if I lived below that dam and near it's watershed.
  14. I've also done this same real life testing. Lots of heartache, lots of swearing and regret. Certainly a strong case for "You get what you pay for".
  15. I have a red RLE. It's been a great reel that will really bomb a bait out there. I use mine mainly for larger walking baits and ploppers with 20lb braid. I haven't noticed it being difficult to control at all but maybe I just hit the settings right before I made my first cast. IMO, it's one of the top 3 KK baitcasters.
  16. I have 10lb braid on both my Ned rig and my Drop shot rod.
  17. 20lb CXX for most of my swimbaits.
  18. Something to consider; If you're fishing them in deep water, braid floats and is going to create somewhat of a bow in your line similar to when the wind is blowing hard, except towards the surface of the water. How severe will vary by depth, cast distance from boat, ect.
  19. At least he has good taste in spinnerbaits, those copper bladed War Eagles are one of my favorites.
  20. I've put many friends, my wife, my son, my dad, my mom, and lots of clients on their PBs, it never gets old.
  21. Welcome! Some very impressive fish. Wels catfish is one of my bucket list fish. I like fishing big swimbaits for bass, it's very addictive.
  22. If the fish are chasing on the surface, I'll throw topwater at them. At the Ozark lakes it's not uncommon to catch fish on topwater in water below 50 degrees and they're usually good quality when I've done it.
  23. They'd go with you I promise. I've had them jump in other people's boats off the dock more than once.
