  1. Yeah you probably have more fishable water in that one body of water than the entire state of Kansas. Our biggest reservoir is only 16k acres, and there's only 3 or 4 total over 10k acres with a few in the 2-7 thousand acre range. The rest are small state lakes under 300 acres, and there's not a ton of those.
  2. Love my Helios and Helios TCS reels. Lightweight, strong, cast great, and they feel so well put together.
  3. Light passes through it nearly the same as the water, so it basically blends into the surrounding water.
  4. Nice! Those Zander are cool looking fish.
  5. How big is this tail? Looks like a replacement tail for a MS Slammer.
  6. It depends a lot on your area I suppose. In certain parts of the country, there probably is a pretty unlimited supply of fishing spots. What about others who might have only 1 public body of water within a few hours drive? There's parts of western KS that don't have a public body of water within 2 hours drive of them. Or ones that live in areas that don't have a good population of bass? The lakes in my area generally have poor populations of larger bass, or even bass in general. I've seen a single season of sudden fishing pressure on a hot lake tank the lake completely for the next several seasons. I work hard to find my fish and what they're eating. Our lakes are mostly small and the good ones really take a beating. If I really figure something out, I'll probably share a little of the info, but I'm not giving away any vital spots or secrets. To me, asking a complete stranger on the internet to give away all their secrets, and then getting upset when they don't, is just being lazy. Not saying that entitles the person who was catching fish to be a jerk to someone who might ask, but it's easy to politely decline to share any information they don't want to share.
  7. Wolf was so good Friday I was catching them 2 at a time! The poor blue cats in that lake are on the verge of starvation too. It was a blast with over 100 fish in the boat on the day, including a flurry of the most aggressive, spoon eating blue and channel cats I've ever encountered.
  8. I figured out how to take a screen shot from a Youtube video, since I accidentally erased the picture I took with my Virb before I downloaded it.
  9. I've seen channels do it on lakes where they feed them a lot, and I've heard of blues doing it at LOZ, but never personally seen blues do it. No doubting that's what they were, and apparently they were feeding quite effectively too. The morning started with a crazy white bass and wiper bite. It was pretty much like it is in this video for the first 2 hours.
  10. Cannot stress this enough. The physical and emotional stress that you'll suffer in both are not something you can cope with if you don't have a desire to do it, and that makes a person a liability to themselves and others when they can't keep up with the fatigue it causes.
  11. It's a copolymer line with a fluorocarbon coating, which has similar light refracting properties as water, making it nearly invisible under water.
  12. There are vendors but very limited product to actually buy, more of just like a show. You do get to meet a lot of pros though and after cut day the ones that are sponsored by the vendors with booths at the weigh in will usually be hanging around the booths. I went to Table Rock a few years ago and got to talk to several of the pros as well as Mark Zona, it was really enjoyable.
  13. It's shift work also. I work the midnight shift so I can go in the mornings too. We work 5 days a week in our department though unfortunately. I'd rather work 4 12 hour shifts and have 3 days a week off.
  14. Welcome!
  15. Any time they change the design or get rid of a model. Last time they changed the LTB design I bought 2 of them for under $250 shipped.
  16. Not sure exactly which trays you're talking about but I've bought a few from WalMart the last couple months for under $6. The rust proof Flambeau 3700 size trays.
  17. Welcome!
  18. Welcome!
  19. I lost a couple good ones on a spinnerbait this week, even with a trailer hook which I rarely use. Didn't lose any that size though, that's rough.
  20. Steve's FB says available for ICAST in July.
  21. Had a guide trip yesterday and we ended up with my 3rd 100+ fish day of the year. We were catching them so good, I decided to do 2 at a time. If you've never fished the big Shine Glide, it's a killer gizzard shad imitation and the fish crush them.
  22. I landed a 21lb flathead with a braid to leader knot in the mix. 8lb leader and had the fish in the boat in under 5 minutes, must have just gotten lucky So many saltwater guys use leader to mainline knots to land fish much larger and stronger than bass. Tie a good leader knot and there will be no issues.
  23. Since KastKing doesn't sell in stores, they have less overhead, so they can sell their reels for cheaper. What that means is these reels you're paying $50 for, would probably cost 70-100 if they were sold in stores. So you're getting a better reel than what $50 would typically buy. At the same time, I think a lot of people are hoping for $200 performance and durability, out of a $50 reel, which is just unrealistic. I've put my Assassin through a lot and it's still going strong. The wipers I wore out with it this winter put more strain on a reel than any bass ever will. I've started to break my Speed Demon in, and really like it so far. It has several dozen solid largemouth and smallmouth to it's credit so far and I really like it. If you're going to try one for what you described, that would be the one I'd be putting my trust into.
