  1. Last week they wouldn't touch a 4" Senko weightless, but they were all over a 7" glide bait. There is no surefire trick to getting the most bites.
  2. Congrats Dwight! Glad I didn'the fool everyone
  3. Not at all, but I understand it makes guys feel good when they do.
  4. Deputy Wood has opened his eyes and even wrote a little bit today. He's tired and pretty out of it from the pain killers, but already showing signs of improvement!
  5. You couldn't pay me to go out there tomorrow after today. Only heard of 2 bass caught between all the boats today, both on minnows under a bobber.
  6. I have 10k of my boat insurance just towards my gear.
  7. Tiny cutters or needle nose pliers. Might be able to get a knife blade under there and pop it loose.
  8. That is amazing, good to hear!
  9. That's an unfortunate realization that struck me early on in my career, there's monsters that walk this earth, and they look just like you and me. I stand face to face with them at work every day in hopes that nobody else has to. I spoke with a friend that works at the same department with Scott tonight. Since he was off duty and headed home, he was not wearing his vest, so there was nothing protecting him from the shots. The robbers apparently came in, guns blazing so there was no time to return fire. On a positive note, those that have seen him say he's remaining stable and did well through surgery today and they're optimistic about his recovery. As of right now they have 2, possibly 3 suspects in custody. http://fox4kc.com/2015/03/04/pastor-wife-and-teenage-son-ask-for-prayers-for-wyco-deputy-shot-in-chest-face/
  10. They're a decent bait, a lot louder than a wart with a wide wobble but no real hunting action that is so desired in the wart type baits. The translucent craw colors are a drum magnet around here.
  11. Yep, that should help your search a lot!
  12. It's not worth the extra $20 IMO. Personally, unless you go with that great deal on the MGX, I'd stick with the Presidents unless you jump all the way to the XT. The MGX is nice, but they aren't $40 nicer than a President to me.
  13. It snowed yesterday and it's 9 degrees outside right now. I'm thinking maybe not Glad you got out and caught one though.
  14. I use a twin tail grub or Rage Menace, those are the 2 options I pick from. Which I decide on depends on how broke I am at the moment.
  15. Mine was 10lbs 2ozs at Lake Commendero, MX My biggest in the US was 7lbs 14ozs at a lake in Kansas.
  16. Watermelon red magic and watermelon purple flake are my 2 favorite colors in really clear water when it's sunny. If it's cloudy or low light I'll go with green pumpkin or green pumpkin red flake. Dip the tail in a little chartreuse JJ's Magic if you're fish for smallies, they can't stand that stuff.
  17. I have the H20 "Composite Cranker". It's been a great rod for squarebills through mid range baits like a wart, 3XD, or DT6.
  18. You got lucky, almost had to learn what a lot of swimbaiters have to find out the hard way. We all know backlash are going to happen in fishing. The problem arises when you're tossing a heavy bait and it hits the end of your line hard when you backlash. Casting off an expensive, sinking swimbait is about as much fun as getting punched in the stomach. A good quality 20-25 pound copolymer is what I use for all my swimbaits.
  19. I pour a 1/8oz swinging football head with a 2/0 EWG short shank Owner just for baits like the little beavers. Those paired with the Pit Boss Jr. are a very good looking craw imitation. Here's a couple rigged with a 3" Pit Boss and a 2.75" Craw Papi It was a great little rig early in the spring when they were feeding heavy on craws in the rocks. They work very well on a shakyhead, split shot rig, or a dropshot also. I use them as a trailer on my bladed jigs pretty often as well.
  20. Is this going to be a multipurpose rod or are you wanting it for a specific technique?
  21. I fish it on a 6' 6" MH/F, Lew's Speed Spool, with 15lb Big Game and I have no trouble casting the 3/8oz head.
  22. I use 3/8oz a vast majority of the time. I like to fish my baits very slowly and it's easier to fish a lighter bait slower at all depths. Most of the time I'm fishing them shallower than 10' anyways so it's really not that deep of water. I am going to play with some 3/4 and 1oz heads this summer and see how they work in deep water in place of a deep crank though.
  23. We've always used hatchets or axes and cut a square hole. The trick is to stop just before you break through the ice all the way around the hole and then hit it in the center to punch the whole piece out at once. If you cut through to the water it wells up into the areas you've cut so you're splashing water all over every time you swing.
