  1. I rode my bike through trails like that a lot last year. A bit too busy this year though.
  2. I live like 10 minutes from that zoo. It's alright, but the one in Tulsa OK was better.
  3. Sorta like alabama craw it sounds like.
  4. Oh....yeah or make a simple phone call haha.
  5. Just trap some during different seasons. Seasonal colors should be more important than the exact species.

    Looks great!
  7. RIP man. Catch some beautiful fish for all of us.
  8. Yeah you hit a couple of wrong buttons, that's all.
  9. You typed the URL in wrong. http://www.pixelpayback.com/craws/hoverbox/index.html Many crawdads also change color as the water temp changes. From the usual dark brown, red, whatever to a more purplish or dark with blue areas.
  10. Oh man does that fish look good!
  11. Carp do suck. They only fight hard because of their size and weight. I stuck so many carp this year flipping and pitching jigs. The first second is "holy shite...HUGE bass, pike, or musky" Then when i feel no head shakes, i know it's a foul hooked carp. Big bummer.
  12. Feel for ya. Lost a dog not too long ago. She definitely wasn't the best of dogs, but she was MY little PITA. Know what i mean? The local petsmart had a shelter in the next weekend. We were in there for 5 minutes before we were in a room signing papers. Found a wonderful dog with the same name. It was like the last dog had picked another for us.
  13. And try some lighter jigs too. 3/4 oz would be at the very top of the jig weights i've seen fished. I usually start with a 3/8oz and figure it out from there.
  14. The one on the right is something i fished this past season. I think i fished it a bit shorter though. Not sure, ha ha. Take one more little notch in the main body off and see how it looks. The claws won't stick out, but they will add some bulk and irregularity to the skirt.
  15. Totally agree. I have learned a TON from fishing with people from the internet. I hope to get to know people from here eventually. There's some great talent here for sure.
  16. This is a typical day for me: 1. Powerfish with buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. Sometimes the fish are really hot and a quick run down a productive shoreline will let me know 2. If action isn't crazy after #1, switch to jig. 3. If no fish after #2, expect zombie apocalypse to commence within 24 hours ;D Ok, i admit it isn't always guaranteed i'll catch something on a jig, but if i have plenty of time and i fish slow it's pretty hard to get skunked.
  17. Meh, i don't really care what it's called. I only suggested it because some were talking about how much quicker it is to use a swivel to switch. If you have some line cutters on hand, that knot doesn't take much longer. But thanks for that link anyways.
  18. I went through a lot of my buddy's senko style worms. Those go real quick though. I also went through a lot of 10" worms and crazy legged chigger craws. I use both those by themselves and on jigs though...and i pitch jigs a lot. Anything i put on a jig usually goes quick.
  19. It looks to me like those appendages are designed to stand straight out and have a subtle wiggle action. Seems like a good bait to use when you know the bass are there, but they're not biting.
  20. I always hand the senko rod to my brother and tell him to toss it out there while he's laying in the back of the boat on his phone or something.
  21. When i first started using baitcasters a few years ago, i spooled it up with 20lb power pro braid and used that same spool of line that whole year. Sometimes fluorocarbon can be tough to use even if you know how to use a baitcaster. For me, the braid worked well when i was learning. The knots came out with a simple pinch and pull.
  22. Maybe.... I'm still much more likely to catch toothy fish on them. The number of large pike in the "bass" areas are still greater than the number of unusually large bass that'll bite a large, expensive swimbait. Lots of stress on the expensive part. I don't make enough money to go searching for huge LMB with swimbaits. I'm sure i'd do a lot better with a smaller swimbait. I may try that. Edit: And BTW, the lakes i fish are a lot smaller than the lakes in your area. There's a lot of overlap in fish location when the max depth is less than 20ft. One of the lakes has a max depth of something like 10ft. Dodge County, WI.
  23. Ha ha, it's funny there's a thread on these. Yeah, a lot of people at my school wear them. Not only the black guys and girls, but the whites and mexicans too. EVERYBODY doesn't wear one, but they're common enough. I was in the garage today and found a bright orange one that was my dad's. It's made of a leather-like material on the outside, and it's pretty old. It was comfortable as heck, but sure was funny looking!
