  1. I like casting out a weightless worm into a weed mat. I work it back like a frog with little short jerks and twitches.
  2. Some years the bass seem to hit crankbaits better than other years, but I start using crankbaits as soon as the water thaws, and I use them right until the water freezes up again.
  3. I use mostly the 1/2 size. Sometimes the 1/4 size is hard to cast with the wind.
  4. This year was off for topwaters. Nothing worked but a spook jr. I couldn't even get a bite on my old reliable jitterbug.
  5. My Dad had a couple of trucks like that. I remember that if you held the steering wheel the wrong way when you shifted, you'd lock up the steering column.
  6. Welcome! You will find a lot of information on this site.
  7. Going to head out tomorrow and do some pond hopping. This may be the last nice weekend we have for awhile so I’m going to enjoy it
  8. Nice looking! Well done.
  9. I usually call it quits sometime around Thanksgiving. If I’m lucky and the weather holds I’ll be able to get out a couple times in December.
  10. I’ve eaten bass a few times I don’t really care for it. I like crappie and bluegill much better.
  11. Mann's baby 1 minus.
  12. Last year I was fishing this little pond with an indentation along the dam. Every time I would bring the crankbait past that indentation I would catch a little bass that weighed maybe a pound. I did this four times and finally moved. I was getting worried that if it was the same fish, and I kept catching it, it would end up getting hurt.
  13. 1/8 ounce jig and craw, or a t-rigged plastic with a light weight on it. They will sink a little bit into the grass, but not very far. I will work them back with short hops so that they will clear the grass and then settle back down into it.
  14. I manually close the bail. Puts less wear and tear on the reel.
  15. The 2" sassy shad on an 1/8 jig head will catch just about anything.
  16. Not my best color, but I have caught some bass on a red eye shad called bad to the bone.
  17. I’ve never checked my drag with a scale, but I tighten or loosen as needed. If my bait is causing the drag to slip I tighten it up a little. Same with fishing in cover. If I can’t get the bait out of the weeds then the drag gets tightened down some. If I hook a good fish and it isn’t pulling drag then l’ll loosen it up a little.
  18. I’ve always used a Zara spook.
  19. Since I got back into fishing about 15 or 16 years ago, I have caught the largest bass on a jig and craw. Fishing just for numbers I have to say that a mid size storm subwart has been by best bait.
  20. I always use to fish a t-rig until a few years ago. Now it’s a split shot rig or weightless.
  21. 6’6” mh/f casting rod with a 3/8 black jig, and either a blue or green pumpkin craw trailer.
  22. It depends on how you like the premier's sensitivity. IMO they are very sensitive rods, but others may have a different opinion. I've been using them for jigs and Texas rigs for a few year now. I also have a 6'6" bionic blade and a 7'0 tourny special that I use for moving baits. You can't beat those older BPS rods, they are very forgiving.
  23. I fish a lot of 3, 4, and 5 acre ponds. This time of year the only time I don't use an 1/8 jig is when it's windy out.
  24. When the temp drops to the point I can’t stay warm I call it quits for the year.
