I have an Abu 5600 C4. One of the blue ones. The pawl has gone out in the thing and it is piling line up on one side of the spool. Nothing else is wrong with it and it is a tank. It can handle anything in the lake. Here is the problem. I bought this reel used about 10 years ago. The reel was probably already 10 years old when I bought it. Should I fix the level wind on a 20 year old reel, or put it on the shelf with the other reels I have used over the years?

If you're talking heavy fishing pressure, I would say take a look at the baits that everyone else is using. Then break out a jig and craw.

Weightless fluke, or a weightless senko. A small jig and craw, or maybe a shallow running crankbait that is in shad color.

I have fished jigs with and without rattles. I have better luck without the rattles.

I would say it depends on what your rig landed in. If it landed on gravel it shouldn't be bad. If it landed in weeds, or mud, you are going to have a nasty clean up on your hands if you can find it.

I have had the same thing happen while catfishing only with little ones. Someone will ask me if they can have it if I don't want it. I usually just shake my head and put the fish back in the water.

If I can I will try to get out around 9 AM and stay out until sunset. A one or two degree warm up in the water is sometimes all it will take to turn on the bite.

My Dad wore out a E7 using it for casting crankbaits and lipless cranks. He bought it in late 2008, or early 2009, and had it serviced in 2012. The place he sent it had to replace several pieces that were worn, but after he got it back it worked just fine.

Out on the water by 7 AM. Cold and windy. I tried fishing back in the shallow areas with cover and in the deep water around structure. Nothing. Finally put on an Ultravibe Speedcraw and tried it around weeds that were close to deep water where I started catching some. The thing was the bass were not in all of the weeds, they were only in the weeds that were facing into the wind. Pulled seven small bass out in about an hours time, and all were between 1 and 2 pounds.

I have a couple of deep divers from back in the late 70's, early 80's period. Also have an old chrome/purple humpback. I use to use them all of the time. Now they are in the tackle box only for show.

My only experience with them was about 12 years ago with the old green exteme low profile reels, and it was not a good one. Based on what everyone here says I will need to look into a PQ when I'm ready for new reels. I know a couple of guys that have them and they have had no issues.

Anyone going to a haunted house where they try and scare you this Halloween season? My kids will probably drag me to one sometime this week.

I have a Curado E7 that I have used for the past 6 years on my rig I use for jigs. No problems and I will probably get another curado when this one wears out.

No way. I get nervous when there are whitecaps on the lake.

I have a four year degree in Finance and Marketing. For the past 29 years I have worked as a project manager for an aerospace company. Basically I put design drawings together for internal construction jobs, and oversee the construction crew.
