The Flu
i got the whole house sick, a couple of them had a flu shot, but they didnt get nearly as sick as i was. not sure exactly when they got their flu shot though. the two that didnt have a flu shot didnt get nearly as sick as i was either. like you jfrancho, i hadnt had the flu in probably a decade or longer, except ive never had a flu shot. the flu out there today is definately stronger than any flu i had growing up though... sorry to hear your fever has come back deak. after getting rid of my fever and getting my appetite back i felt like something was still lingering that could cause my flu to recur, so far it hasnt though and that feeling is going away every day. see if you can get some tamiflu from the doctor, that stuff works and is worth every penny it costs...

Whats You Definition Of A 'fun Fish'
fishing is pretty much fun for me anytime i get to go. doesnt matter if i catch or not. but usually i do catch because i often fish for multiple species. i will have a few catfish rods out and be tossing around some artificials while waiting for a bite on the catfish rods. of course the "catfish" rods often catch bass, bluegill and perch as well. but for me its mostly just about spending time at a body of water and taking in the nature and surroundings. just straight up relaxing and enjoying myself. if i happen to go with my nieces, then its all the more fun actually. i enjoy helping and watching them catch fish, the joy it brings them is amazing, they absolutely love to fish and i dont mind putting my fishing on hold to help them. their joy of catching fish trumps any joy i may have catching fish for myself.

The Flu
So last week i had a terrible case of the flu, had to miss a whole week from work. luckily i was able to do some work from home and get a few hours, but i have never been so sick in my entire life. for the first 4 days i was balled up in a corner of my bed sleeping, its about all i could do. i drank plenty of fluids, but very little came back out lol. fever, cold and hot flashes, sweating uncontrollably at times. i felt fortunate there was very little chest congestion and i could breath through my nose. i did have very little appetite, and even then i didnt want to eat, everything tasted nasty and it was just hard to eat. initially i was taking nyquil and alkaseltzer cold plus before i was able to get some tamiflu. thank god for tamiflu, it knocked out all of the worst symptoms in a couple days. this week i am back at work, but im still not 100%. im low on energy and experiencing some light headedness at times. and i certainly want to take a couple naps a day lol. but im fighting through, and feeling a little better everyday. eating is no longer a problem. my energy seems to be improving. ill tell you what though, these new age flus going around are no joke. i hadnt had the flu in years, and it was never this bad. i remember growing up as a kid and getting the flu. we got some cough syrup for medicine. and vicks vaporub that we used to smear on our neck and chest, and maybe a little dab under the nostrils. and some ginger ale to drink. a few days later you were fine. im confident that none of that would help much with the strain of flu im getting over now, it was just way too powerful. now that im back at work, im paranoid as hell everytime someone coughs, i do not want to get sick again. has anyone else been hit hard with the flu this year? all this makes me reconsider my stance on the flu shot and perhaps i should be getting one even though i never have...

The Best Steak I Ever Had
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! you just unlocked the secret for mixing wild turkey. CHERRY COLA, except i prefer cherry pepsi to cherry coke with wild turkey. I keep a bottle of wild turkey rare breed on deck. me and a friend discovered that cherry cola was better than anything with wild turkey almost 15 years ago

What You Don't Like About Fishing
man, i dont even mess with them, i just cut the line and let them have my hook. usually when i catch a turtle though, im live bait fishing and the turtle is huge as hell with horns all over his head and hissing at me. i might feel different if it was a lure, but just a hook and im cutting it lol. one night me and my brother in law were night fishing off my uncles dock at Smith Mtn Lake, VA and kept getting harassed by this giant turtle, homie mustve had 10 hooks stuck in him by nights end...

Any Pre-Fishing Rituals/superstitions?
Black Eyed Peas used to be hip-hop....before they sold out and went pop and hooked up with Fergie... in my opinion, not all rap is hip-hop, but im an elitist when it comes to hip-hop lol...

Any Pre-Fishing Rituals/superstitions?
i think youre confusing prefishing for a tournament with prefishing as in what you do before you actually go fishing. this thread is about what you do before you go fishing, and not tournament prefishing. -------------------------------------- me i guess i dont really have any rituals before i go fishing. atleast none that are obvious enough for me to think of right now lol

What You Don't Like About Fishing
you can say the prices are getting stupid, and maybe they are for certain brands and models. but they still also sell $20 combos that is capable of catching just as many fish as a $200 combo....my opinion, its your choice to buy the expensive models, no one is forcing you to spend all that money...

What You Don't Like About Fishing
sorry, but i just cant get on board with this one. there is still plenty of low cost fishing gear out there that gets the job done just as well as some of the high cost gear. if you choose to buy the high cost items, then thats on you. i will put it like this, my oldest rod and reel happens to be the cheapest one i bought and it still works well. i have caught more bass on a walmart one dollar spinnerbait than i ever have on a war eagle. so really, in most cases, the cost is what you make it, thats all on you...

Trion Spinning Combo At Bps
i have a trion but i didnt buy it as a combo. i bought it separate and paired with an 5'6L ugly stik lite-pro rod. its been a great little combo for me, and it cost about 80 bucks altogether. i have it spooled with 6lb sufix siege. its great for throwing light weight baits too. i use it for small crankbaits and small weightless plastics like baby rage craws. i also use it for pan fishing a bunch, and trout on one occasion. biggest bass i caught on it was 4lbs or so. buying it separate it also came with a spare spool.

Something Clicks About This Place
most everyone has times in their lives when they have to put their hobbies and such on the back burner for awhile so they can tend to other things life is throwing at them. but i would like to think even in such times, you could probably find the time to fish a little bit. you dont have to wait for a big meet and greet, or you dont have to load up the truck and boat and drive a little ways to do it. and you dont even have to have the best of waters. take out a single rod and reel, a small tackle box with a few essentials, and go find yourself a local pond, river or creek man. you dont have to spend all day or a lot of money to do so. granted, i dont know your situation that is preventing you from fishing, but as long as your physically able to do im sure you could squeeze out an hour or two on the bank of a pond or something. sure, it doesnt seem as great as taking the boat out on a big lake for the day, but it will help the mental aspect of wanting to fish. one hour on the bank can help ones mind state more than you might think. again, im not sure what all you got going on in your life, so maybe im totally wrong and you dont have a spare hour on any given day...either way, welcome back to the site...

Rapala Husky Jerk
i got a rapala husky jerk i bought about 5 years ago. it was the most useless lure i had until i tried it in cold water one february afternoon. i managed a 4lber and a 1.5lber on back to back casts that day. this was in a pond that yielded me nothing in cold weather on any other bait. i managed fish on other cold weather days with the husky jerk too. the fish in the pond im talking about dont really get active until may...

Bass Fishing With A Bad Back.
those that are advocating stretching before fishing are giving great advice. stretching helps to prevent injuries in a lot of cases. while stretching may not fix your back problems, it will, in a lot of cases, keep you from developing more ailments. i get back pain from time to time but rarely does it affect my fishing, which seems kind of odd at times. make me wait in a long line while out shopping or let me just stand around talking to someone and my back will start hurting, but let me stand around the edge of a pond and be fishing and i wont get that back pain, seems kind of weird but im not complaining...
