  1. Most LCD depthfinders will turn on and go into an automatic mode without doing anything to them. You can operate it like that till you get comfortable with messing with the menu. The first thing I do with any of those LCD's regardless of make is turn that useless fish ID feature off, the one that supposedly indicates fish on the screen. Useless, even the manuals will instruct you that the LCD can't really tell the difference between a fish or a branch or air bubble. Learn how to set the greyline on it. Learn how to use the zoom feature. It's all in the manual. Take your time and devote some time each trip to learning what the graph can do. I will say you've picked a fairly easy one to learn on. Those Cuda's are about as basic a depthfinder as you can get.
  2. I have mine on an All Star classic MH spinnerbait rod 6'8". The other is on an old BPS, 6' IM6 Bionic Blade Pistol grip rod I use for topwaters. Used both of them last weekend. Great reels for those rods.
  3. Sometimes those beepers go off if the oil in the OB oil reservoir gets low. This can happen if it's low and you tilt the engine. Sometimes that sets it off.
  4. Mistakes happen. Wait and see how quickly this next cap comes in. I'd have had it overnighted for your inconvience.
  5. Man, I don't know about that thing. If you bought some Banjo minnows and they didn't work you're only out the money for the lures. The same if you bought one of those Roland Martin Bazooka rod and reels. If you buy the Porta boat and it folds up on you in the middle of the lake, you could lose all your fishing gear.
  6. Have you been in a Bass Pro Shop lately? The place is full of young guys with their girlfriends. It looks like a pretty hot date place to me. Most of the ladies, though, seem to have the same look on their face as I do when SWMBO drags me to Bed, Bath and Beyond. The smartest thing Johnny Morris ever did was add an entire floor of womans clothing to the World headquarters store in Springfield. Sheer genius.
  7. your best bet is to go to a marine dealership with a prop shop or a prop shop itself and get them to let you try different props on your boat before you go sinking money into a prop. You'll have no idea as to how it'll perform until you try different props and get some tach readings to help make the choice.
  8. My son has 2 very similar spinning reels. Not sure what the model is but they're AG's. I've fished with them, nice reels.
  9. I suspect any of the LP reels will be discontinued when the new line of lower price point Revo's comes out this fall.
  10. Just a couple things, Ranger or not, you're likely to take a bath on that if you are the original owner. Boat depreciation is every bit as bad as that on an auto, maybe worse. Not too sound too negative, it's not only a bad boat selling time of the year (especially if you're trying to move it fast) but the economy is kinda soft for boat sales to begin with. Add to that the fact that it's a fish n ski, the ski season will be closing here very shortly. I feel for you. I nearly bought a fish and ski a number of years ago when the kids were younger. We used to family camp and do the whole ski/tube/kneeboard deal. It was my wife that nixed the deal when she saw the postage stamp sized rear casting deck. When she asked me about it I could only breathe a sigh of relief. Those F & S's, especially under 19' make pretty poor bass fishing platforms when compared to a regular bassboat. I'd only buy one if you absolutely HAVE to.
  11. What boat and motor do you have? How much do you need out of it? (Is there a loan?) Not the best time of year to attempt to sell a boat. If you price it cheap enough and it's the right boat you should be able to sell the thing.
  12. That reel will cast a country mile. Try loosening the spool tension knob. BTW, it's a shame they don't have the Revo's available with the flippen switch. I know a lot of guys don't like using them but I've gotten so used to the feature, especially for pitchin, that I can't imagine not having it. Here's hoping Garcia can come up with that feature on the next generation Revo's as well as some slower gear ratio reels as well.
  13. I no longer have any of them. The older ones, that accept the XPS weight system, were given away a few years ago as part of a Nitro boat promotion. I see them often along with a few that pop up on the forums from time to time.
  14. I've got a 2005LP I use on my flippin stick. 5 bearings, 6.2:1 ratio. Very smooth reel. I used a couple on spinnerbait rods and had no problem over the course of a couple years. You can still get them on Ebay or at Walmart new. Good reel for the money you paid.
  15. My son went to a technical college to learn to be a CNC machinist. Classes such as math or English basically taught students what you needed to know for the particular trade you were entering in and would not be defined as true college level courses as any credit you received from the classes would not be transferable towards an accredited degree. Good luck though.
  16. I agree with catt, if this hole is below the water line and you've got exposed fiberglass involved this is no job for an amateur. Are you saying that water is coming out of this hole? That's not a good sign if it is. Fiberglass wicks water like a sponge and can lead to delamination quickly.
  17. My Dad tought me some basics of fishing but he never really like the sport, said it was a waste of time and money. So yes, I basically had to teach myself. This was in the early 70's before there was an internet, no cable TV, only an occasional article in magazines like Sports Afield or Outdoor Life. I waited anxiously for Sunday at around noon when the only fishing TV show on, "Outdoors with Virgil Ward", came on. Just the stuff on this forum is a multitude of learning more than what I had. Consider yourself lucky. If you want to speed up the learning curve, join a bass club.
  18. I've just gone through your last 50 posts and I can't figure out what it is you've done that you need to apologize for :-?
  19. You can find these XPS performance rods on ebay all the time.
  20. I sold a bunch of those on ebay last year. Probably 20 - 30 of them at least, maybe more until my source dried up. As for the quality? Well, I took them out to fish with a few times. They were completely unacceptable for fishing any kind of soft plastic with, OK for other uses like spinnerbaits or top waters. OK rod. I wouldn't pay anymore than $30 for one though. Never had one break either.
  21. An Angelina Jolie blow-up doll would probably work better for ya.
  22. I have an All star Titanium 7' rod I use as a C-rig rod as well as occasional worming. This thing is extremely rashy due to C-rig weights banging the rod sides over the years. Due to the Titaniums being one of those higher end rods, I've expected this thing to crack on a hookset for the past year and a half that I've owned it. It hasn't, it just keeps going and going and going. While the Titaniums aren't available anymore, you can get the same rod from All Star in the Platinum series. Same rod, just without the Titanium guides. $150 from Cabela's. Great rods, very, very sensitive.
  23. They made a GT 300 back in the 80's. I knew a guy who had one on a 21' Charger Bass boat and he claimed it would run in the low 90's. Not sure if that's true though about the speed. Perhaps that speed was while he was going down the highway to the lake.
  24. to me, it usually means the fish ain't bitin so good.
