  1. Shorter rods help but even having a longer yet more forgiving rod does the trick. I've used a 735c dobyns and it gets the job done. Finding a good skipping jig with a solid trailer is more important. If you can glue your trailers on before hand it will help you from losing so many trailers.
  2. Tried going the braid to leader route a few weeks ago. It works well when you have multiple rods ready to go. The only downside is when you're a co-angler with limited rods. I found that after a few break offs I had to retie my leader. Valuable time was spent tying up when I could have been fishing.
  3. Can't beat the lews bb1 pro and Dobyns 765cb glass for Deep Divers. For $155 I would jump on that price. That being said if you want to throw 10xd's go with the 806cb.
  4. By the sounds of it the fish probably had your bullet weight and not enough of the worm. I've had the same thing happen to me, just not on an 8lber lol
  5. The bite is slowly turning on. We only had two keepers on a tough day last weekend but they were both fat and white. 8lb 1oz fish was caught by a high schooler on a crankbait, think it was a 1.5 not certain. 17lbs took the tournament. Temps were getting to be 68 and some said they saw 70 in the hot arm.
  6. My buddy has a few boats that he leaves out almost year round. The plastic sun dolphin type and regular john boats. When not in use he simply flips them upside down. The john boats seem a little be worse for wear and the old plug holes aren't the best. No issues leaving out the plastic boat ( he has one and his uncle has another) The sun dolphin is easily the most stable option with two guys in it. If I were on his pond I wouldn't hesitate to get a bass raider or sun dolphin.
  7. Thanks for reminding me to treat my clothes before work this season lol. 100% deet isnt supposed to be used under clothes and not wearing pants, long socks, and long sleeves in tick country is a mistake. My buddy's place in N wisconsin is loaded with ticks. You don't even have to be in the thick grass to get them on you. I would say we had at least one on our clothes every time we went outside. I found that the repel lemon eucalyptus worked pretty well this past year. That being said the bigger ticks are wood ticks and don't carry lyme disease. Thanks for the post bud I can't stop itching now.
  8. I use BPS, Cabelas, and the like for ice fishing and other sporting goods. Hard to buy a big ice shanty or decoys when shipping is $20+.
  9. Don't know why guys are knocking the 10lb line on a spinning reel. 10lb is a good option for people that havn't mastered a bait caster and want to get the best bang for their buck. Also I'll throw a shad rap with 10lb on a spinning reel from time to time. When I finesse fish I'll have 6-8lb test line. You have to remember that 10lb invisx is pretty thin.
  10. Probably spooled it on backwards. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=spooling%20line%20onto%20spinning%20reel 10th link down ( scout)
  11. Does your boat have room for that many batteries? 112lb is going to take 36v.
  12. My TP is beat to hell but it keeps on ticking. That reel is in my had pretty much all of the time. Its my go to flipping reel and always with me bank fishing. I've got so much faith in that reel that if the bite was predominately jerk baits I would pull off my flipping line and toss it on my jerkbait rod. I can't say the same thing about my stx. After 1 season of heavy use the clutch bar was toast and the tension knob is done. Sending it in for repair shortly.
  13. Contrary to this post I love using this rod for spinnerbaits. It was the older model and have only used the new one for a few outings ( busted a guide and lost the top guide to a boat ramp). It casts spinnerbaits pretty well and I don't mind the weight. The jerk bait mojo is a decent rod it doesn't stand up to the avid model / avid x model though. I prefer something lighter as jerk baits are very labor intensive.
  14. From my experience the line was great the first few outings then it required kvd line and lure. It also didn't do too well in freezing conditions. It may have gotten ruined by the extreme temperatures changes but that's my only guess. Ever since I went 50/50 braid and fluoro spooling my reels hasn't cost me nearly as much. Edit: At $12 for 600yd its a cheap and easy way to spool a boat full of reels and it works well. 15lb was tough as nails and hard to break off when snagged. I've found lines I prefer more.
  15. I normally clean my reels twice a year. One big cleaning at the beginning of the year and another after my last summer tournament or when I stop fishing slop. I want to remove the green slime and buildup as soon as possible.
  16. 5 hooks in kentucky but I would just use 3 to be on the safe side.
  17. I contemplated getting one. Not sure if my local store has one in stock though. Don't need one but $100 is $100 bucks lol
  18. They're the biggest catch all lure out there. The small ones work for panfish, medium size for trout/ bass etc, bigger for pike, bass, salmon etc. They're considered a beginner lure because they're in everyone's tackle box. Every time a kid looks into grandpa's box he'll find snelled baitholders and some form of an inline spinner. I keep them around our bass/striper section in my shop. If someone wants to catch fish I'll sell them some worms and an inline spinner. Once they're hooked on the spinners I'll bump em up to the soft plastics and actual spinnerbaits.
  19. Kayak. I hate fishing out of canoes they get pretty rocky and in any sort of wind they're a brute to keep on track alone. I much prefer using kayaks. You can buy stand up models as well.
  20. Those big southern schools have more rigorous rules for their membership ( you can join the club but you aren't guaranteed to fish any tournaments) than my school did. They also tend to have more boats which means they have to narrow down their field. As for Auburn Best emailing them directly AuburnBassTeam@gmail.com
  21. Take it out of the package and leave it on the dash of your car for some time. Flip it over halfway through. The color will fade and it might look better. Edit: my buddies favorite color and one that has caught him a lot of fish has also changed colors. Guess I'll have to scour locally to find the original color.
  22. Had the same issue when I went from using off the rack spot removes to more of a custom shake head with an ewg. The standard spot removers only required a standard hookset. With the heavier hook I had to bump up my rod and set the hook like a jig to ensure a solid hookup. Once that was done I rarely had an issue with fish spitting hooks.
  23. Best route is to buy them at fishingskirts.com. I would buy a bunch of base colors like black and blue, green pumpkin, white( shad color). I only bought a handful of supplemental colors ( orange, chart, purple etc) when I made my skirts. I also had a color bait that was killer for me one year and luckily enough it was just one solid color. With one bulk order I was able to make over a hundred ranging from bulky to thin.
  24. Even broomstick rods can cast a jig decently. How is your reel tuned? Aside from that the dobyns fury is a solid rod. I've heard some bad things about the Duckett Ghost, not what most guys were hoping for.
