  1. You have a punch rod so I would say dobyns 765flip. Still in the process of reviewing it but so far its awesome. That being said its more of a flipping stick than something I would use for horny toads and spinnerbaits. It sounds like you're looking for two rods not one lol
  2. I've got my fair share of custom spinnerbaits for smallies. Most of them are chart/white with colored blades. As others have suggested go with a double willow for burning and a single or double colorado blade for slow rolling. I prefer spooks and poppers for small mouth also sammys. My go to buzzbait is a cavitron but I did pick up some boogermans before they closed down.
  3. I would say that the penetration power is to set the hook home. I like having my crankbait rods more forgiving than my jig rods. I would use a 7ft medium fast.
  4. That would be my choice for a drop shot rod. That being said it will hold up for tubes. I throw my tubes on a 66medium fast baitcaster and sometimes heavier if I can get away with it.
  5. I hate making the jump from the bow of the boat to the dock. I'm always worried that I'm going to time it poorly and end up in the drink.
  6. I don't see how this could go wrong. Please do this and go pro the comedic gold lol. They make adapters for transom TM http://www.basspro.com/Pro-Controll-EZ-Mount-for-Transom-Trolling-Motors/product/10210607/
  7. No problem at all. Buddy had that boat with a motor and gear it could have used a 101. I believe he had a 70lb minn kota edge on it. I would get a nice seat for the bow so you aren't standing all day when running putting from spot to spot.
  8. Shellcrackers eat em up. I always wondered if stocking them would be a good alternative to fight them.
  9. I thought those have been in the US for a bit? Brad's thin fish?
  10. Got skunked my last 3 times out. Have only gone to my local pond and the water levels and temp have been unstable. Every day I have off seems to be during or just after a front passes.
  11. Helped the bass population but seems to have had an impact on the bait fish. Double edged sword. One species thrives while others have gone down hill.
  12. Under 2,000 lbs. Are you trying to see if your vehicle can support the weight? You have to take into consideration not only the weight of the boat but also the gear in your truck.
  13. I would say because its super clear, more sensitive, and thinner than its mono counterpart in the same lb test range. This makes it more manageable on a spool. That being said fluorocarbon is notorious for memory. If you want to do it on the cheap just spool your reels with 50% braid and 50% fluoro. You can even go 95% braid and the last 5% a fluoroleader. No reason to fill a spool completely with fluorocarbon unless you like wasting line.
  14. Alberto knot solved all of my issues. I hated feeling other knots going through my guides because they were too big. The alberto is pretty streamlined and when snagged in rocks the line only broke off in the spot that was marred and not at the knot itself. I have found that tying a leader long enough for pitching means that its never truly in the guides, only when I make a long cast.
  15. Even worse than the lead fumes is the dust. You will probably contaminate you're entire kitchen and may ingest lead well after you have melted it.
  16. ML XF will give most rods a little bit more backbone. I would say M XF for a shakey head.
  17. The elusive pink jerkbait. Still don't know if that was a prank or if he really did sack em on it. Saw the bait don't know if it was legit. That being said I'll bite the bullet and sign a pack out at work. If I catch more smallies on it this summer I'll use them. If not I'll sign them all out and sell em to you guys lol.
  18. Im think 15-20 invisx or that new flipping line. Possibly 50lb braid with a leader.
  19. As stated above cabelas are warrantied for life. That being said they do run a little bit big on the foot size. Feel them out before you buy them. I normally borrow my buddies duck hunting and if I'm wading in the summer its usually in shorts and water shoes like those power drains made by columbia. Trout streams aren't something known to my area so I don't have a need for warm weather waders.
  20. One of the things holding me back on shallow spooled reels is the versatility. Can you use these shallow spools and still get a decent cast? I want to use one for jigs, both swimming and pitching.
  21. Thanks for your service bud. That being said watch out for my guy Steve Mui in the Northern Opens . Also this legend is right up your alley http://legendmarine.com/tactical. The Anglers Choice tournaments are a great option for tournaments and a way to win a legend boat. I know two guys that have one them. One being Steve Mui as a co-angler.
  22. I busted one out joking with my buddies one day. Its pretty awkward using those short poles with baitcasters. I havn't perfect my one handed casting yet but I bet that's what they're better for. I'm over 6ft so a 7ft 6 rod is well in my range.
  23. Spent my years fishing college tournaments and I can't say I would be ready to fish an open, BFL etc even as a co-angler. Most of our stuff was done as a team. Don't even know how it works. Am I the bad guy for flipping into a bush and sticking a 5lber when my boater needs a kicker? Tough stuff.
  24. Big game is stiffer IMO same with XT. I would use a fluorocarbon of your choice in 10,12,15 depending on the application. I'll flip squarebills on 15lb into the thick stuff (trees etc). Haven't used braid on crankbaits but I've gotten some better rods so I think I'll give it a chance this year.
  25. You'll see plenty of pros still tossing around the old style spinnerbaits and whacking the bass. This is the only photo I could find without digging out my box of vintage ones. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Ricky-Green-Pro-Model-CHOPPER-BEE-Spinnerbait-by-Bumble-Bee-Bait-Co-/121924375698?hash=item1c63425492:g:s3cAAOSwAuNW5sVF Those same old times were the ones that lived and breathed the days of no limit fishing. Give Blake Honeycutt a lookup. That being said guys that don't take care of their stuff do bad just like someone with a new reel that has old line.
