  1. The powerliners were doing pretty good up until that wind and bad weather came. I was looking forward to going after some smallmouth. Do you know if you can fish any of the harbors with a boat? It sucks that we cannot fish it like any other lake. There's some great fishing to be hand on those docks.
  2. Where downtown? The lake was completely muddied up last I heard.
  3. My shops been going on 64 years. The biggest advantage to small shops is live bait. We sell more live bait in the summer than we do lures. I would love to see a surge in that side of the business. Been going to my shop since I was a kid and despite my discount I still shop at other small shops in the area.
  4. I won't reiterate the information above as its been pretty helpful. Let's focus on the steering aspect. Do you enjoy the cable steering and standing like a pirate? If you prefer the cable steering I suggest you install a trolling motor tray to reduce fatigue. Most of the electronic steering units are low profile and you aren't off balance. With the reduced size there is a little less feedback. I feel like the electric steer motors are a little bit slower. This may have improved on the newer units, my experience is with the terra nova and powerdrive. Both are nice units but cable steering is more responsive. The spot lock features and ipilot are nice but not a necessity.
  5. They do the same thing on their high end swimbait rods.
  6. Those guys are the same ones to complain about being overcharged at BPS for a rod/reel that I have $10 cheaper.
  7. So you're the guy I saw swimming to his boat.
  8. shhh they dont work
  9. I never understood why they use foam on their swimbait rods.
  10. They're ok rods nothing special. The reel that the combos come with doesn't justify an increased price. Why not consider getting a rod with a good warranty? I can't afford buying new every time I bust one so i get them repaired/ replaced for free.
  11. Awesome crankbait and big bait reel. Gives you a lot of torque on those big spinnerbaits and swimbaits. It isn't a flipping reel and I wouldn't advise you or anyone to flip with a 5.1:1
  12. How heavy is the boat? IMO 45lb seems light but it will probably work. Wire the batteries in parallel to get longer runtime.
  13. I usually keep the factory settings or back it off if i'm just flipping jigs. From there I adjust my mag brakes and cast control knob. If Im going for long pitches my cast control and brakes are backed way off. What type of rod are you using?
  14. I'm getting a champion 765c in sometime this coming week. The champion 735c is my all time favorite rod and I recommend shelling out the cash for it. As for the fury I consider them the best bang for your buck. Want to fill a boat with quality rods and still have money for reels? go fury. Want a technique specific rod that you'll have in your hand 90% of the time ? Go Champion and above. Awesome to see Gary produce a series of rods at a flooded price point and blow out the competition.
  15. In pre-spawn you have to understand that bass are moving to those coves. They might not be in those coves yet. Currently you want to start fishing main lake to secondary points leading back into those coves. Follow contour lines back into those coves, look for spots where they are really tight and fish can swim from shallow to deep rather quickly. Also looks for changes in rocks. Chunk rock to gravel is a great pre-spawn spot to hit with a jerk bait. Instead of focusing on NW coves focus on those that you have caught spawning bass in before. The conditions are right in those areas so you should find fish headed back that way. Remember that once fish head up shallow they don't just run back to their deep summer haunts. They either hold super tight to cover or pull off to feed / they suspend and annoy the hell out of me.
  16. The Dobyn's hands down. Way better rod if you're getting them at the same price point. The only avid rods I like are their crankbait series and in their spinning rods ML through Ultra light. A
  17. Felons cannot own firearms so yes lol
  18. She have any like minded nieces? Waiting on the order to come in but I've got 20 skinny bear jigs, a quantum smoke, and a dobyns 765flip on its way. Along with all the other stuff I just bought.
  19. Leave your confidence baits at home when you want to try something new, or at least bury them in the bottom of the boat.
  20. If you want a Dobyns call them up and ask for someone in the shop (530) 671-1989. They will sell you the exact rod you are looking for and steer you in the right direction. Those fury's are sweet rods for the cost.
  21. Depends on the tactic your are trying to do. Most of the time 16" is a good leader size. Some guys like longer 5ft+ leaders. I personally just run 50% braid/ fluorocarbon. 6lb or 8lb is my usual leader for a spinning setup.
