Gloomis Cbr 783
So I just got an older loomis cbr 783 for $100. It seems like a pretty whippy rod though. Has anyone used this rod? What baits can it support? Im a little concerned about using heavier baits.

Jig Rod Vs Flippin Rod
I'll use my flipping stick for heavier and deeper jigs. The regular jig rod does everything but handles swim jigs and chatterbaits better.

Swimjig Smallmouth
Personally i'll use different styles depending on what i'm fishing. Sometimes the bullet style and sometimes the regular jig head style. As long as the line comes straight off of the bait. That being said I came across a custom swim jig about a year ago and got that smallie in my profile picture on it. John Graham makes them. Hes got a light weed guard and also a pin bait keeper. He makes the bullet style and a standard head style, big hammer produced baits to match his jigs. More expensive but worth it.

What Triggers Your Tackle Itch
In store sales. I cannot resist 50% off of an already marked down clearance item. Also when they will price match and have a storewide discount. Gander was awesome for this. Got some spro baits for 6 and some 10xds for around 8.

Best Way To Rig A Zoom Super Salty Fluke
As said before, twist lock hook. Also donkey rigged and with an underspin. You can also fish the small ones on swimjigs/chatterbaits. They have endless uses.

Casey Ashley Planted Over 50 Brushpiles On Hartwell!
Nothing wrong with it. He's helping the fishery and staying within the rules of the game. Tell me other guys haven't done it on similar lakes and I'll retract my statement. Ever wonder why local guides or even crappie guides dominate at their home lakes? They've planted piles years in advance. I bet Ashley has hundreds of piles planted already spanning years. He probably added a few to create a few new hot spots. If you're a spectator boat following ashley around where are you going to fish come next week? Also " He used the a-rig that's not fishing, it should be illegal." Was it against the rules? No. Did Paul Elias dominate everyone else? Did he cheat? no. Same thing. I find it more unsporting to get spots from a guide months in advance or go out with a guide before hand than planting brush piles that may never get fish.

May is the new date? They were talking April last I heard, that sucks I dont want to wait until then.

Dobyns - New Contender For The $100 Rod Catergory
Glad I finally got to see one. I heard about it from a few guys that are close with dobyns and Gary. If they make a decent crankbait rod I'll grab one, if not i'm buying another champion.

Overhead Cast With Baitcaster
Yep braid is easier to learn on but learning to get those Vs out of fluoro and mono is a skill that takes time. Forgot to mention that when you put your line on you have to make sure it goes on somewhat tight. If its lose it will roll over on itself burying the snag.
-
Overhead Cast With Baitcaster
Step 1: learn to properly set your brakes and tune your reel for your bait. Tons of videos on that step 2: rod / reel/ bait combo. Try casting a 1/2oz jig or something heavy to learn how to feather the bait properly step 3: practice and practice. step4: if all else fails check your line and rod. 25lb big game isnt going to cast as well as a newer softer 10-12lb line.

Rod Length With Deep/heavy Cranks
Just hooked a 10xd to my 765cb glass dobyns ( 7ft 6 mh 5 power glass rod) and it is really iffy. I think I could cast it but it honestly scares the hell out of me. It handles 6xds perfectly though. I would go with something designed to fish 10xds if you're going to start throwing the on KY. I have my eye on the 806cb but I cannot justify buying a rod that I will throw probably 2 times a year when Im on KY or ledge fishing. If I lived close to a big reservoir I would already have two of them. As for the rod length just throw it on the deck or the passenger seat. You just don't go out and throw a 10xd on an average day. The days that youre ledge fishing it will most likely be in your hand or on the deck so rock locker space shouldnt be a concern. If traveling is an issue just throw it in the front passenger seat. Any rod not made for big baits is just going to be overpowered IMO.

Best Way To Pick Smallies Off Of The Logs?
Come up from behind with a lighter tube and let the current take it underneath. Always go with the current, smallies will face upstream waiting for food to swim past.

Hooks While Traveling
I just flew Southwest about a month ago. Store the rods below the plane in a cardboard rod tube with your info on it, they'll be fine. Plano tube is much better but both have to be under 91 inches. I kept my reels in my carry on bag and that was fine with the airlines but all of the hooks were kept underneath in my luggage. TSA agents aren't the brightest people all of the time. If I saw a 10xd in a carry on I would probably stop you to check it out, just my 2 cents.

What Should I Use This Rod For?
Yep, anything with treble hooks. I use actual mh rods for my chatterbaits because I set the hook a little bit harder than a crankbait.

Revo Stx Review And Opinions.
Stick with shimano, I like my gen 3 stx but Im not in love with it. Too many issues with mine that I had to correct. I prefer my lews reels over my abus except the gen 2 revos I own.

How Long Are Bass Off The Feed Post C&r
if you actually fish before the day before the tournament you're just going to hurt your chances of catching those fish. I've had times where we still catch fish in our backup spots but we still dont get those quality bites.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
If I had information to go on I could give you a hand. Northern ,Il could be from the north side of chicago to the boarder. That being said I wouldnt ask Scott for spots, he doesnt even list his favorite lake lol. Bet if you joined his club and got to know his buddies they would be willing to help.
