Trolling Motor Issues
Alright so here it goes. Have a boat that was wired 12/24v its an old 1988 1660 pro craft. I believe my club had it in to get the trolling motor put on and wired correctly. But I dont think it was ever installed correctly. In the back of the boat there are 3 main leads. One for the cranking battery, and two for the deep cycles labeled battery 1 and battery 2. I dont believe that these cables are wired in series. The leads come from the front of the boat and into the back and stop at this switch board/ battery terminal type thing. Then the 3 main leads attach to that board and onto each battery. Each lead has 2 cables ( positive and negative). To put these into series what the heck do I need to do? I think I just have to run a jumper cable from the + on one to the - on the other. Do I just ignore the lead for battery 2 then? Not sure if its just that simple. Another issue. Just installed the onboard charger and idk if im actually charging these batteries. One was new one was a year old. TM works full blast when plugged in and only 20% unplugged even though Ive got a new battery. Kind of exhausted from cleaning this thing and fooling around with the batteries.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Rough day today. Got the club boat from the mechanic. Realized that the trailer wiring was wrong ( from club members not the mechanic) so I had to throw on an adapter and fix up the wiring. 20 minutes and $15 bucks later I was on the road. Got to Clinton, dunked the boat and couldnt get the big motor started. No problem just roll it out and work on shore. Deep cycle might not have gotten a full charge at his place and I left the master power on during the drive over. Problem number 2 was when the safety chain was too tight to release it. Normally you just winch up and get it off. Winch kept slipping up and wouldnt go that last 1/2 in. Boat slipped off the bunks. Had another guy try and start the motor to power it up and slip it off. Couldnt get it going at all. So basically we were stuck there. Only option was to either get a set of bolt cutters but we wouldnt be able to get it up on the bunks. Thank god my buddy had his waders in the car. I backed it up he slipped it on the bunks and we finally pulled it out. Man I thought I was going to go catch some pigs on some of my spots. Had to shore fish and thought it would blow. Turns out that wasnt the case caught these two fish in the first five minutes. Moral of the story, never go home because the boat wont start. Things I might have screwed up. Battery could be dead or it could have not been completely in neutral. Also I might have bumped the kill switch loose. Going to check tomorrow. If anyone is looking for a partner this weekend/week on clinton message me asap.

Lake Shelbyville Il
Personally dont like the lake. Caught some fish out there but also had some of my worst fishing days out there as well. When the water level goes up it really sucks to be out there.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?

Illinois Palos Area
I havent been to maple or bullfrog in a few years. Before I got into bass fishing heavily I saw a few 4-5lb fish but never landed any. As stated above those lakes draw in the biggest bucket crowd. At my baitshop we normally direct people out that way to do bluegill fishing. Ive been meaning to try it during the summer with a kayak or something but never bought one.

Wiggle Warts Question
Some guys feel that the seam in the bait added to the wiggle of the bait. You dont get that on repaints or the new warts. Personally I think its color that makes the most difference. That being said Ive caught big fish on post rap baits so I wouldnt call the new baits garbage. Just not the same lure you caught 400 fish on Lake of the Ozarks in 1985. Look at some of the megabass colors, they go for the hundreds of dollars because they changed the eyes and some paint around.

What Now?
lol hope your health is doing fine. still have to get out with you this year sometime.

Avid X Near Miss
Split grips have nothing to do with gaining you extra distance on the cast. Also it doesnt lighten up the rod, it saves the company money. Ever wonder why most rods in the $100 price point are being made with eva foam instead of cork?

Jerkbait Storage
I need to get the hook guards. Currently using a 3700 and everytime i go for a bait 5 come with it.

Jerkbait Storage
looks like what ill have to do. Ive got way to many jerkbaits though.

Best Shakey Head?
Custom cast jigs " closer" shakey head. They're in some shops in central IL but also TW. Custom gama hook used.

Jerkbait Storage
What do you guys do? Im not going to shell out $50 for a shimano box with a crack in it. Why cant a company produce a product designed for jerkbaits??

Worm Vs Flipping Weights
Nope, not a lead v tungsten question. They're labeled differently check it out at this site http://www.elitetungsten.com/elite-tungsten-weights-products.html . The bulky head for a bulky bait makes sense. You want to punch a bigger hole for the bait to follow through. I dont know why you would ever flip a 1/16oz though.

Glass Vs Graphite Cranking Rods, Dobyns, G.loomis Etc...
Ive got both and it depends on preference. Dobyns is a hybrid, graphite to a point then glass. The 765cbglass is a beat of a rod and Ive caught most of my big fish on it, everything from 5-7lb. Ive also caught small fish on it and even with the glass rod I have no problem boat flipping fish. When it comes to graphite I prefer a very narrow, rigid blank that tapers off. The glass gives me the bend I want with treble hooked baits. That being said some guys prefer the 705cb/704cb over their glass counter parts because they pull through grass and are better around cover. In todays fishing world you can get similar performance out of graphite but from my experience it isnt the same as a glass rod. I know guys that still fish exclusively with glass and never gave it up back when graphite came out lol

Rip - Mom
Sorry for your loss. She was happy by your side. Keeping her close was the best thing you ever did for her as your son. You're a better man than most people out there for that one gesture. Keep your head up and stay on top of your health for you, and possibly children/grandchildren. Tight lines Tom

Trimming Jig Weed Guards?
I'll trim them down on some jigs. Booyah and terminator used to have a really thick guard that went way beyond the tip point. I also trim my skirts down if they bait looks too bulky.

Gloomis Cbr 783
Before I really jumped into fishing I would use a 66mf fenwick hmg. Im used to that rod and its a little bit lighter than a f.
-
Swimjig Smallmouth
You can swim any jig. The thing is that you want to use a swim jig with its head design because it gets through weeds better. Also the eye comes straight out of the bait so when you swim it the bait pulls forward. The hook is also key I prefer in line hooks over the style of hooks you see on a football jig. Bitsy will work for an all around jig.

Worm Vs Flipping Weights
Alright this is probably a dumb question but do you guys strictly use flipping weights when flipping? I only use the big flipping weights when I'm punching and never with works. I generally just just worm weights with everything I own. Is there an advantage to using a flipping weight in wood? Dont see why i would buy a 1/8th oz flipping weight over a worm weight.

Gloomis Cbr 783
Casted it around in my underground garage with a jig and this rod is awesome, all for $100 shipped.

Winter Bass Fishing Trip...
I would wait for the ice to come off of the lakes in Northern Wi or Michigan. Tons of fun when that ice first starts to come off. That being said they had ice until like may last year.
-
Mega Tubes?
I normally just use smaller sized tubes on beds. When they're locked on they'll bite anything. when theyre skiddish I go with a smaller bait. Guys in chicago will use crappie jigs when the bite really tough
