  1. No possibility it definitely cost him a hundred grand and a classic berth. Hes totally out of the tournament. Thing i dont get it it says Minnesota law prohibits the culling of a five fish limit in state water or in Minnesota/Wisconsin state border waters. So if youre fishing a tourney in Minnesota how are you supposed to cull fish?
  2. Studies have shown that while bass can obviously see color, they dont have the brain processing power to associate red with blood. They can see red but they cant think to themselves hey that fish is bleeding! They are conscious but not self aware. They cant think like we do. Still though if it gives you confidence then go for it!
  3. I swear by the barometer. If its at 29 i usually have a great day. If its at 30 im sure ill catch a few and if its at 31 i know its gonna be tough. But like Jack said just go fishing. Ive had some of my best days fishing post frontal high pressure bluebird sky days so theres always exceptions to the rule. Just get out there.
  4. I know! Everytime i have one tied on i stick a finger or it gets caught on my clothes or something. Yet fish spit em out like its nothing. Lol
  5. I saw a homeless guy once while fishing. He was mumbling something about George W. Bush and Texas A&M. Lol
  6. Crazy isnt it. How basically six hooks can go into a fishes mouth and it can spit it out without you even knowing it. People never believe it when they first see this. Lol. Like you said, gotta have a good sensitive rod.
  7. I love throwing big Rooster Tails. Love the 1oz ones, them things THUMP. Was crankin one day for fish that were suspending a few feet under the surface and out of nowhere my rod loads up like i caught a freight train. I thought I had the bass of a lifetime. Turns out it was a 10 pound catfish. Man that thing fought so hard. At the time I always thought of Catfish as bottom dwellers. I've since learned otherwise. Caught a small 4 pound cat once when i casted a weightless Senko and as soon as it hit the surface he ate it.
  8. It's not crazy per say but really cool. I was fishing one day and out of nowhere one of those old school bi planes came speeding overhead. Guy started doing barrel rolls and corkscrews, all sort of awesome stuff. Went on for like a half hour. Needless to say, I wasnt really paying attention to fishing for that half hour.
  9. Do yourself a favor go online or into BPS or Cabelas and buy the Water Gremlin Bull Shot weights. Theyre bullet weights that you crimp on like a split shot. I use the split shot rig A LOT and these weight come through crap better even than the normal split shot without tabs. Check em out. I use this rig with a painfully slow retrieve. Ive caught some big fish on it too. I use black Senkos in five inch and big ten inch ribbon tail worms.
  10. I switched to a nice big tackle bag a while ago and am so happy i did. Its one less thing to carry. I can have all my tackle on my back, my rods in one hand and the other free to help myself through the brush. lol
  11. I used to be the same way man. Never used crankbaits. Then at th beginning of spring i bought some. Got a few KVD 1.5 and 2.5 squarebills and a few Rapala DT series and fished the daylights out of them. Eventually I got good and theyre now a confidence bait. I think the biggest thing is knocking them off cover. A spinnerbait or anything doesnt pop off a piece of cover quite like a crank. And it draws some vicous strikes. Also digging bottom. If theyre holding on the bottom Ill throw a crankbait that dives a foot or two deeper than the bottom is. So if its 8 feet deep ill throw a 10 foot diver. You want that thing ticking bottom constantly, or every now again, depends on what the fish want. But yea, nothing bangs off cover and ticks bottom like a crankbait.
  12. All those big features you find in big lakes exist in ponds, just on a smaller scale. If theres literally no structure you can see the fish gotta have something to hang on to. That spot on the bank where it dents in for example may just look like a small indentation on the bank, but it forms tiny points on either side. They probably hold some fish too. Although I dont have much experience fishing weed clogged ponds and lakes. And like Franco said, COVER GROUND! Just keep moving every 15-20 minutes until you get bit.
  13. The biggest thing for me with Senkos is SLOW DOWN. Like painfully slow. Ill cast a weightless 5 inch Senko and wait literally a minute or so before i move 6-10 inches then wait 10-15 seconds and repeat. Them big girls didnt get big by expending tons of energy. Another thing that really works for me is a split shot rig. I use the Water Gremlin Bull Shot weights. They're a mix between a split shot and a bullet weight. A snap on bullet weight if you will. They're awesome. Rig a 5 inch Senko on a 4/0 EWG hook and snap that weight on 12 inches up the line, cast it out and do what i said in the beginning. My best colors are straight black, watermelon and green pumpkin.
  14. Always, always, always ALWAYS wear sunglasses while fishing. The risk of a hook hitting you in the face or eye may be small but we all know Murphy's Law!
  15. Ive been having a lot of luck throwing a KVD 2.5 squarebill around flooded area. Casting around the edges of flooded bushes and logs and such. Throwing it on 12lb test floro.
  16. X2 Find water nobody fishes. I fish two small quarry lakes 90 percent of the time and usually catch at least a 3lb everytime. Theyre out there. In our area there isnt many ten pounders but theres tons of quality 3-5 pound fish all over the place. You just have to put in the time and effort and find the honey holes. Use Google Maps to find small ponds and lakes then fish them with big baits. 10-16 inch worms, big crankbaits and jigs.
  17. We have Lamprey Eels here in the Delaware River and some of its tributaries and backwaters. Nasty lookin things.
  18. I checked out both these lakes very meticulously and there isnt any stream or creek feeding them. Still, I think my best bet is to get a hold of DNR and talk to them about it. Im most likely going to do it, better to have my T's crossed and I's dotted.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions guys. The lakes are owned by Eureka Stone Company. They recycle concrete and dig for whatever at a facility up the road. All the excess they are dumping into the small lake. I mean it makes amazing cover, big chunks and slabs of concrete, its great. But the lake is slowly disappearing. WRB, so you're saying even if its their property they might not be able to fill that lake in?
  20. So I was at my secret honey hole at a quarry near me. While slaying fish on a crankbait, one of the guys who works for the stone comapany started talking to me. Anyways he tells me that they're filling this lake in! Theres two lakes right next to each other. Both healthy and loaded with 1-5 pound fish. The one lake is a little bigger than the other but I mainoy fish the small side since it has a nice stain to it. Barely anyone fishes these lakes, maybe 3-5 people Ive seen. The big side is fine, but the small side they are filling in with all the dug up dirt, and broken up concrete and stone. I mean it wont be done for another couple years probably but Ive been thinking about starting to transplant fish from the small side to the big side. Anyone ever done this? What would be the best and safest method for the fish? They would be going not even 50 yards to the lake on the other side of the road. The lake in question is about an acre or so in size and the lake I want to put them in is a few acres big. Theres bass, catfish, carp(HUGE ones) bluegill and crappie in both lakes. When would be a good time to start? When would the fish start to be affected by the lake being filled in? If anyone has had any experience doing this id love to hear from you!
  21. I agree with other posters as well about checking your guides and such. Check anything on your rod the line comes in contact with.
  22. I use Trilene XL all the time with all sorts of knots and have never had an issue. I agree it was probably just a bad spool.
  23. Just the name of the game man. Be happy, it means you're catching fish. lol.
  24. I think you mean cover not structure. Structure is things like drop offs, humps, channels and such. Cover is things on the actual structure like brush piles or fallen trees or rocks on a hump. Picking up what im putting down? Try and find structure. Any kind of irregularity in the bottom. Humps, points, ledges. I found that where i fish in small quarry lakes all the things that you find on a big lake exist in small bodies of water just on a small scale. You may think that tiny point isnt really a point but it is. And probably holds fish.
  25. X2 Always, ALWAYS tie directly to the lure. Eventually you will get really good tying knots. I do a palomar in like 10 seconds. Lol
