I have an older evinrude and can still get parts. Look up the engine you are thinking about on some outboard parts websites to see what is available, also check fleabay. There are many outboard junkyards who also sell parts on the web.

The boat buckles are great. The manufactureres should just make them standard equipment.

It looks to me like it was crimped on to something else at some point.

Sam, check your charger, some of them do not work with gel batteries. If that is not it, you could try to unplug it and plug it back in, reset it. Aside from that someone else may have an idea.

I would say a 3lb bass is a nice fish anywhere. Many people think Florida, Texas, and California are just overrun with 10-20lb bass and I used to believe that also. It simply is not true. Now people in those areas may have a better shot at a true trophy, but like everything else, perception is not reality.

Is that bat lure made out of plastic? From the photo, it looks like some kind of metal which would actually sink and not be topwater. Thanks.

Wow, very cool Scaleface, I had forgot that one. I don't have that one. I may have seen one many years ago, but can't quite recall it. I'm sure it would work today if you were willing to risk losing it. Kind of reminds me of the old creme worm with the prop on it.

If you are talking about just the bent spoon with attached hook, some came with a worm, or you could add one, It was called the Wobblehead. You can still get them online directly from the company or I believe possibly on amazon. If you are talking about the jig with the bent spoon on the front, That is a discontinued lure from Whopper Stopper called the dirty bird. You can sometimes find them on Fleabay.

I have an older Evinrude and have been using the Mercury outboard gear oil for years without problems. On some other sites I see guys saying to using Mobil 1 synthetic, Royal purple synthetic, Lucas synthetic, Redline, Valvoline, etc. Should I switch to one of these synthetics or stay with Merc Lower unit oil? Twin spins worked very well when I lived up north. Don't hear or see anything about them in the south. Many years ago, BPS made a double spinnerbait. It had a blade on the top, and a blade on the bottom, and in the middle straight back from the line tie was a soft plastic grub on a hook. It was kind of big and harder to cast, I assume like an A-rig today, but it caught some nice bass up north until I lost it to a pike. BPS discontinued it quickly before I could get another. I believe that was about 1983. Anybody remember that lure?

I believe all of those would work on bass under the right conditions.

The local county closed all ramps, mostly I think to save money, (they are cheap), even though the Governor said fishing is still allowed, but surrounding counties did not, so to go fishing requires extra drive time. have not ventured out yet, but my patience is about shot.

I have a very old 2 stroke and use seafoam and marine stabil and never have a problem, Btw all the gas I get has ethanol, but this works very well.

When your boat is not being used, if possible keep the back hatch lid where the batteries are, open at all times. This will quickly vent out the gasses and keep them from attacking the terminals. Of course, clean and seal connections as stated by everyone above.

I feel your pain 12pound . I have the same vest and the picture shown looks like you are supposed to put the bobbin in the way that is too tight. I struggled with it and finally used a youtube video that shows the correct way. Live and learn. At least not a total waste, the wife got a good laugh. I normally have to rearm every few years because they will eventually just inflate on their own due to age or humidity. Now I use a video each time.

Many Florida boat ramps closed, but I believe it is a county by county decision. It really doesnt make sense. I have never gotten 6 feet close to anybody at a boat ramp unless I wanted to. Depending on the day and season, Sometimes you are the only one there.

Many of the early bait companies in the late twenties through the thirties made that same type of lure, wooden, glass eyes, two props. Patents were not always easy to get, not followed, and many were copies. Many of those companies are long gone. It would be hard to get the exact manufacturer. A larger picture from several angles showing all sides may help. It looks like it could be one of many from Creek Chub, or A Heddon surface minnow. Paw Paw, Pflueger, Shakespere, and South Bend, made similar minnows but most had 3 treble hooks. Sorry I could not be of more help, but so many manufactured that style back in the day.

Curious, What are some saltwater baits that you have found that work great for bass fishing?

Thanks guys, I will try it next time with less water pressure and see if that helps. I normally don't like to run it at home, noise, smoke, etc. But it is a pretty good trip to the lake and if I do not have time I still like to run her just to keep everything in shape. These old engines like to be run and do much better if used more than just sitting around.
