Do you prefer Heavy or Med-heavy for a frog rod? I believe most guys throwing frogs like something about 7 foot? What works for you?

If you dont have too much vegetation, dragging a heavy spinnerbait, kind of slow rolling it along the bottom can generate strikes. I have had some success this way when just drifting through some deeper areas. I know it is not trolling, but similar.

I have been keeping my line on my baitcasters much less than the full that is normally (recommended. (1/8 inch from the top of spool). With this lowered amount on there, I can almost spool it all out on a long cast. I find I still get long casts with better accuracy, and less chance of a professional overrun, (birdsnest). Will this hurt my reel, and what are the negatives to running less line than normal? Thanks.

If your walmart has a vision center, check with them. I had to pay for mine also and they were about half the price I found anywhere else.

I would keep the truck and also keep your eyes open. You may find a boat for cheaper than expected. This economy has people selling stuff all the time. You may find a good deal on a boat especially something that may need a little work on it.

Looking for a good baitcaster for throwing frogs and a good braid to match with it, so i can still get some of those lighter frogs to cast out a bit farther. I have a good frog rod, just need the rest of the system. Would like to keep it at a reasonable price. If you have something that works well for you, please let me know. Thanks for any and all help.

I have an older shimano spinning reel. I love the reel, but at times the bail snaps closed when I make a cast. I know it is fully opened and ready. Anyone know if there is a fix? Thanks.

I have removed the center treble on many baits and it does not affect the action. I find it easier to release the fish with less damage to them and less chance of a hook in your hand. I have never seen any negative side and do not lose any fish with this modification. PS. I only do fishing for fun, If you are fishing for a paycheck in a tournament, you may want that extra hook. ?

At least 2 & 1/2 years to go before I could retire. I work mostly part-time now and still do not get to fish much due to family and home responsibilities. Hoping inflation calms down so I can retire. I pray my health holds up into retirement. Looking forward to a realistic 3 to 4 days a week on the water. Time will tell.

I order from TW all the time. Recently they have become very slow at shipping things out. I ordered 10 items all are in stock. They only sent 2 out right away. Not sure when the rest will ship. Maybe like many, they are under staffed. I am not sure, but it has taken longer to get stuff. I still prefer their variety of stuff that is not found many places.

You may want to try mono for your leader. It will give you more stretch and is way more forgiving when tying knots. FC is very dense and hard. It does not give much stretch and degrades faster. It is also hard enough to cut itself if the knot is not perfect. I have switched all of my leader to mono and will never go back.

Does BFS work well for throwing light weight hard jerkbaits like original rapalas?

Has anyone replaced baitcaster spool bearings with boca bearings to improve performance, and did you find it difficult to swap and was it worth the cost? I was just thinking of upgrading some old reels instead of replacing them. Thanks.

This summer I want to try fishing braid to mono leader. My question for those who use this, how long of leader do you normally use and what connection knot do you tie? Any other tips? Thanks guys.

I fish straight braid on my spinning rods, mainly 20lb. the fish around here are not line shy and most of our water is pretty dirty. I use mono on all my baitcasters and for crankbaits. I do not use any fluoro, because I find it is too brittle, needs carefully tied special knots, kinks easily, and is hard enough to cut itself. I think I could get fluoro to snap just by staring at it. I know some swear by it, I swear at it. This year, I do want to experiment with braid to mono leader on some of my casting setups as many find it to be extremely beneficial.

How come TW will not give you any price break during their sales for anything shimano? Does shimano control pricing on their products? Just curious, thanks.

Will these lithium batteries work with a minnkota onboard charger? or do you have to get a special charger? The batteries are already pricey and I do not want to have to get a new charger also. Thanks.

We all know fishing pressure of any kind can ruin a fishery quickly. They should probably limit the boats that go out each day, for safety and to protect the fishery. Kind of like permits for certain hunting areas.

I got a few, 1. bass jig 2. dropshot 3. Carolina Rig 4. A-rig Never catch a thing on a jig or dropshot. I have caught a few on C-rig but tying it up, casting that leader and dragging it is kind of boring. Never tried A-rig, never will, too big and complex, might as well cast a net.

I think 3 trebles is overkill anyhow. I take the middle treble off on all mine and it does not effect the action. They still catch just as many fish. I have never missed a fish with the middle hook removed. It is easier to release the fish with less damage to him and less chance of a hook in you. Try it, you can always replace it later if you want.

How many times do you catch a different species when you are targeting bass? Not too often here, I hook the occasional eastern chain pickeral, (small northern pike relative), I may get a hook in a gar about once a year, a mudfish (bowfin), once every blue moon, and a large speckeled perch (crappie) on a lipless crank a couple times. I know my northern angling brothers have to deal with the toothy lure thiefs on a more regular basis. So what is your story on this?

I had a top on my bassboat. I took it off. It was a pain to cast around and as previously stated it is like a sail, any wind at all and you get blown right off the lake.

I have a 16' fiberglass boat with a single axel trailer with a single tire on each side and no trailer brakes. I ran trailer tires for years and found they just never held up very well. I now go against the grain. I know you all will throw shade my way, but hear me out. I talked to a tire guy who works with many of the best tire companies about changing to steel belted car/truck radials for my trailer. He checked with a couple of manufacturers and said that as long as we were in the specs for weight it should work very well. I have had them on for several years and am extremely happy. The trailer tracks straight and rides very smooth. No wear problems and the trailer actually pulls easier. I know you will all scream I am unsafe and stupid for even attempting this, but the proof is on the trailer. I have pulled it all over city, highway, and in between for years. It is stored inside and I have seen no un-normal wear or weather cracks like I had with trailer tires. It works great, and if it felt unsafe at any point I would change back to trailer tires. The only difference is I have saved money on tires. Ok, let me have it guys.
