  1. I dont use livewells, so I put a plug in each open drain or intake. It just makes me feel safer. The plugs are removable if I ever wanted to use the livewell or sell the boat.
  2. Yes, mine is similar to the red Diawa Millionaire above. Mine is a Diawa Millionaire cv-z model 203 A. I guess I need to stick with a straight handle unless I can find a matching bent star drag somehow. Thank you for the information. Bulldog1935, where did you get that straight handle with blue knobs in photo above? Looks very nice.
  3. I have an old round Diawa baitcaster that the plastic knobs have cracked. I think I am going to replace the entire handle. My stock one is straight and most of the new ones are that bent swept handle design. Will this bent style work ok or do I need to stick with the straight style? Also is it ok if the new one is slightly longer? I just want to make sure it will work before I order one. Thanks.
  4. clear or a ghost minnow. They can't see it but, react to the noise / commotion.
  5. I fish alone also. I have a buddy that will sometimes join me, but we are both retired and his wife has him traveling alot. I really dont mind being by myself, it is just nice to share the chores of loading and unloading the boat at the ramp. It also feels safer with someone and better should any breakdown or problem occur. Someone to watch your gear when you are off parking the truck is also kind of comforting. The best thing is sharing the memories, talking, photos, and trying to out fish eachother for bragging rights. If I want to fish, I am mostly going to be alone.

As a kid I grew up in an area where each fall was pheasant hunting. I was too young to shoot, but thought the rooster pheasants had beautiful feathers. One day I took a large split shot, stuck a hook and some colorful pheasant feathers in it and mashed it together to make a jig. It caught several fish of different species before I lost it to a snag. Never made another, cause I started purchasing lures with my allowance and odd jobs, back when tackle was cheap.

An earlier thread got me wondering, do you have any lures you have modified or put 2 lures together and came up with a true fish catcher? A couple years ago I was adding a trick worm to my spinnerbait and the catch rate was on fire. Now they do not look at it. 😒 When I was a kid my father grabbed a lure out of his old triple tier stepped tackle box. Instead of 1 lure there was a tangled mess of about 3 lures. He decided to tie it on anyway since they were very stuck together. 1st cast he nailed a 3 pounder, and the gob of lures was still stuck together. We laughed about that one for years. You guys got any MacGyver lures you care to share with the class?
  8. I do think it is a shame that Dick's started as a tackle shop and now many deleted the whole outdoor department so they can have more room for gym clothes. I guess higher markup and larger target. 2 stores near me shut down the fishing department and now the closest is about an hour away. I do not darken their doorway anymore.
  9. There used to be a lure manufacturer called Tennessee Pro Lure Co. They made many models and that looks similar to the model Tennessee Kill'er. They sometimes show up on ebay. Just not sure. Good luck.

  12. Hey guys just bought a Lifepo4 battery for my 12v bow mount trolling motor. I also bought a new onboard 2 bank charger, 6amps per bank, that works for the lithium and the flooded start battery. With my old batteries, I always left my onboard charger plugged in at home to keep the batteries charged and ready to go. The new charger says it has a float mode for when the batteries reach full charge. Can I still keep them plugged in at home or would it ruin the new lithium battery? If so, could I unhook the lithium and leave the one bank charging the start battery? Just need some help from someone who has used a similar setup. Thanks for your help.

  14. I am installing a new TM battery. After looking at instructions I am a bit confused. My current setup is 12v, with one battery. I am questioning the way it is currently wired. There is 2 large red wires that are identical (not orange, yellow or striped) attached to the positive battery terminal and 1 large black wire attached to the negative terminal. I read it should only be 1 red and one black, but which red do I use? The TM recepticle at the bow is a 3 prong plug. I removed it to check the connections on the back side. 1 large red wire is connected to the top by itself. 1 large black and the other large red wire are connected to the bottom connections across from eachother. I assume this was messed up from the previous owner of my boat. Which red wire should I use, and which should I cap off? Does it matter? Thank you for your help.
  15. I always find it interesting on catching something else when you were bass fishing, I asked before what you caught besides bass, but thought it may be interesting to follow up and see what lure triggered these other species. 1. musky on a chartruese/white spinnerbait 2. crappie on a chrome/black rattletrap. 3. eastern chain pickerel on a (junebug trick worm) (a chartruese/black squarebill), (electric shad kietech) (white spinnerbait)- more pickerel than I wanted.😒 4. mudfish/bowfin on a white spinnerbait. 5. channel catfish on a yellow roostertail. 6. big bluegill on a shad color pop r. 7. gar on white spinnerbait. What you got?
  16. I don't know anything about that bait, but maybe you could try to down size that blade and see if makes the action any different. It looks like in the video that blade sometimes throws the lure into a slight spin. Good luck, let us know what you come up with. Contacting the company may not be a bad idea.
  17. If I want to go fish, I go fish. If I want to catch fish off a screen, I stay home and use the gaming system. Technology can be good and bad. I believe all of this new high tech stuff could be better served in other uses. It is not really fishing anymore, when you see everything in the lake, it then becomes harvesting. I like being out in nature, figuring it out on my own, and not staring at a screen. Besides, a bassboat that resembles a jet cockpit looks stupid to me, but to each his own.
  18. I have a 1987 88hp SPL Evinrude 2 stroke outboard (premix). I love this engine it seems pretty much bullet proof and has never let me down. I sometimes get an overheat alarm only at low idle. A faster idle, or trolling never have an issue. So far I have changed the entire waterpump including impeller, Thermostats, took water jackets off and cleaned them. Flushed entire water flow system with Rydlyme. Still get alarm at low idle, almost like low idle does not push enough water through it. I have not removed heads to clean them out for fear of breaking head bolts due to galvanic corrosion. I only run in fresh water, but prior owner may have run in salt many years ago. I purchased the boat and engine in 1994. This problem has puzzled me for a while now. It is not a huge problem, I simply do not let it low idle for more than a couple seconds. I flush it on muffs or a water trough every couple months. If any of you 2 stroke mechanics or techs have an idea let me know. Thank You in advance.
  19. You guys all went old school pros or tv personalities, and they definately deserve their spot. Some of those names like Harold Ensley, Virgil Ward bring me back to my childhood, I watched fishing shows while other kids were watching cartoons. Many of those TV greats caught giant bass out of stocked private lakes so I deduct a point for that. I have to admit though, I have learned more from this site and the Youtube sticks. So my mountain looks different. 1. KVD 2. Mikey Balzz 3. Matt Allen 4. Tim Little With a special mention to the Bass Resource family.

I would try throwing them. They do catch fish. It is like trying to cast a pringles potato chip, but they do work.

That doesn't really make sense, why did their old sales, that they had for years every holiday, have almost everything on sale 15 or 20% I guess you and Mn fisher are right maybe I need to look around at others sales. Sometimes we get stuck in patterns. The best thing about fishing gear is many places sell it and competition is good. (So says the bait monkey).

I don't really like the new TW sales. They pick and chose what goes on sale. The old sales had everything, or almost everthing at a discount. I hope they bring back the old sales, maybe for the 4th of July. I need some stuff but none of it was on their recent spring or summer sale. I still shop there, but have cut way back due to this new sale format. What do you think?
  23. We have one park that charges $5 per day. I would not mind paying that if they actually staffed the area for security. There is no one around and the money goes into a machine. When you load and unload you have to leave your boat at the ramp, hope nobody steals anything, and walk about 2 blocks to the parking area. I hate that feeling of no control, so I don't go there very often. Another park charges $3 per person per day. Honor system, again no one around, just leave money in a big steel box.
  24. If they do not want the bass, could you catch some and legally transport them to other lakes that may need some stocking? That way it would be a win -win, you get to catch bigs, however you want and help out other fisheries.

When using trailers on spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, swim jigs, etc, do you try to match the trailer to the bait color or not? Everything I have read says to match everything as a single unit. (thats why the wife claims she needs so many shoes to match her clothes 🤣). Anyhow, My buddy does the extreme opposite, his trailers are bright bold colors like bright red, orange, blue. He always uses extreme contrasting colors between bait and trailer instead of matching things up. He always does well with the wild colors mixed up in clear or dirty water for Largemouth bass. So does it matter, and would he do better if he matched trailer to bait? What say you?
