What price range? I have an 8' Avid Inshore that I use for slinging big bait to stripers. It's much lighter than glass rods. It wasn't cheap, but it's awesome. I can't really speak on the Tiger. I have an 8' Heavy cattfish ugly stik, but I don't even use it because it has no backbone.

Why not just keep the reel and buy a second hand rod? Same principle, just reversed.

My local gander had them for $129 plus an additional 20% off. Not quite $89, but not bad. They had a bunch of other good reels on clearance as well.

As a person that works for a major manufacturing company, it's not just cost sending our jobs overseas. There's a real lack of skilled labor. Manufacturing is not a sexy job. If you hire entry-level skills, you get entry-level work. This drives up costs for rework, overtime, etc. The people that have talent want to be paid. There's a fine line between overpaying and under skilled. A lot of the Asian countries have an influx of skilled workers that will work for far less than a comparable American.

I paid $136 for my GL2 and still was disappointed with the sensitivity, weight, and cheap components. There's easily 3-4 rods in that price range I'd rather buy, including the ***. I haven't had any issues with the ***, whether I set the hook hard or not.

You can get an *** for $75 and have a more sensitive rod than the GL2. Or buy a Tatula rod for full price and still beat it. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for another GL2.

I've hooked 50+lb catfish, 15-20lb stripers, 15lb wiper, a 30lb carp here and there; none have been able to strip more than 30-40 yards off a reel. Even if you fill 1/4 of a spool with mono backing, you're still going to have 120-130 yards of 30lb braid on a typical baitcaster. For most largemouth fishing, you really don't need more than 50 yards.

What size reel you looking for? There's a place that sells reconditioned Pflueger and Abu reels for good prices. I bought one and it looked brand new. Cost was way less than new.

The knot point is insignificant. When you're using backing, you should never get close to the knot.

I think ultimately they'll retire the Core and just move forward with the Metanium. They'll probably bring the Aldeberan over here at ICast to complete the lineup.

They had some good deals here at our Gander Mtn. on fishing stuff. All the clearance reels were an additional 20% off the marked price. Daiwa Ballistic for $149+20%, Curado G for $129+20%, Exo for $199+20%....and a bunch more. I like this time of year. Should be some more awesome sales right before ICast.

Yeah, I picked up 2 more of them on clearance for under $50 at academy. They make good reels when I am wading the river and don't want to bruise up my better stuff. I like them a lot. For that price, I may buy a couple more if I just happen to see them around.

I liked the old model with MagZ and the free floating spool. It was heavy, but fished great. The new one didn't feel as good to me.

Either will work. I'd recommend the Symetre over the Sahara though. The addition of x-ship is worth the extra. Plus, it's a better comparison price-wise to the Lexa.

If you look around, you can find the Type R for about $150 and the standard for $105-$115. At those prices, I like the Type R better. Both of them are better than the Curado G, in my opinion. The G is a fine reel for the price point, the Tatula is a GREAT reel at the price point. I would maybe consider the new Curado, when it's more widely available. Kind of scary jumping in on a reel that has very little feedback thus far. We should know more about it in the near future.

The T3-1016 is on sale right now at TW for $202. Nothing on your list is even in the conversation with that reel.

I was absolutely set on getting one...then the T3 went on sale for $202 and ruined my plans. Hard to pass on 50%+ off for a $429 reel.

4x7x2.5, probably a typo. Boca has 10 packs of econo bearings that do just fine as well. Look on the net for coupons, save some cash that way too.

Fluoro has less stretch, better abrasion resistance under water, the refractive index is closer to that of water (it's more invisible), it sinks, and it's more sensitive on bottom contact due to the stiffness of the resins. Most fluoros have a combination of these items, very few have all of them; those few are usually expensive.

The money savings is the main reason. The other, weight. Fluoro is a very dense material compared to monofilament line, this is what makes it more stiff and what makes it sink faster. When you fill the spool entirely with fluoro, you're going to have to use more braking to get the same effect as when you're using braid or mono. Adding 1/3 or even more with monofilament reduces the weight by that much and also reduces the amount of braking force needed. This is one of the reasons you see 2-3 threads on the board right now about backlashing when people are using fluoro for the first time.
