  1. I picked up a hydraulic 10-ton jack on sale for about 12 bucks brand new. I made a "V" out of 3/8" steel and welded it on top so the axle snugs down inside it. Make sure you have enough clearance to get the jack under the axle though!
  2. Look forward to updates on your project.
  3. Where did you pick up the lumaflex?
  4. In the past I've always held the rod vertically when threading the eyes. Now I've discovered (duh) that it works better if you keep your rod horizontal during the procedure. If you drop your line it won't run all the way back to the reel.
  5. "They drag you down to their level and beat you with their superior idiot skills." Superior Idiot Skills - I've gotta remember that. Best thing to do in this situation is just start laughing at him. I don't think anything would upset him more than that. Then you can amuse yourself by counting the veins popping out of his neck.
  6. Thanks for the update pics, keep us informed. It's like doing a project myself except for the actual doing part!
  7. Congrats on your find. Lot of boat for $200, should be a fun project.
  8. Buncha whimps, a REAL man can hold his urine!
  9. It's imperative to use the proper weight flyline with your rod. Should be printed on the rod near the grip. I suggest a bass bug taper line in whatever weight the rod calls for. Anticipate spending around $50 for a flyline, pick up some tapered leaders, a few flies/bugs and have at it. It's a real primal thrill to hook and land a bass on a flyrod. The reel is not nearly as important as a good line so if you have to skimp, skimp on the reel (if you don't already have one). Have fun and let us know how it goes.
  10. My method too......picked one up for 99 cents. Just realized my keyboard doesn't have a "cent" symbol.
  11. Do you have to fizz your fish from that depth?
  12. OOH - Changed my mind. Get me some of these Dad! MacDaddy's Million Dollar lure. Gold and platinum and they do cost a cool million. A lifetime supply includes replacing any lures that you lose or sell right?
  13. Gotta go with Senkos or Zoom ribbontails.
  14. I read this 3 times before I got it! ;D
  15. Yeah, I do too. Even with the best of intentions I just can't get out in the Central Arizona temps we have so I take a break in July and August and hope for the best in September.
  16. With a fish on the first cast the pressure to not skunk out is gone. It's happened to me a couple of times. Real confidence builder! I don't think anyone has ever caught one on the "last cast" though. No one stops fishing just after catching one.
  17. You'd think that after making them for 50 years or so they would have noticed those clunky hooks and done something about them.....but you'd be wrong. I just resign myself to spending time sharpening hooks on a brand new lure. Guess it's worth it but I like the idea of soldering a real hook on.
  18. Made this rod carrier from some scrap I had in the shop. Was going to use bungies to hold the rods in place then came up with a sandwich design of plywood, rubber membrane with a slit, and a piece of masonite to hold the rubber in place. Cleaner app than the bungies. Well, I can only attach one picture, how do you guys attach multiple photos?
  19. Sad story, sounded like a good guy. Makes you examine your own life and where it's going.
  20. Sorry to hear about them closing stores, I really like shopping there.
  21. Man that is one gruesome pic!
  22. The "look at the bill" trick works pretty good but in the interest of being excessively anal I use a permanent marker.
  23. The rubber band trick looks interesting. I've heard of it but couldn't figure out how to rig it.
