  1. I'm a big fan of taking old rage craw bodys and melting them on to old beaver bait tails. i like these style better for jig trailers. Senkosam, I noticed a few months ago on another forum you posted a picture of a beaver body /w a brush hog bottom half. If I can find it somewhere, there's a company that actually makes them now. I always thought that was a really cool looking bait. I made a few. They worked, but didn't hold up the best.
  2. fishing expo tomorrow fishing expo next weekend fishing expo weekend after that house of cards season 2 hopefully open water end of march
  3. socks socks and more socks. i can bear most fish able weather in a hoodie face mask, stocking cap, goretex bibs and underarmor but if my feet every get cold....forget it. i usually use 2 pairs of socks and (i think) cabelas 2000 pac bay infernos.
  4. No, you don't and that's a very silly, naive statement. The fish was allegedly caught in an oxbow in GA. Perry was a farmer during part of the depression. Fishing for food had become almost a way of life to some of the unfortunate people hit by the depression. How are you so certain that people in the area didn't take non native fish or some farm pond bred bluegill, catfish or bass and "diddy pole" areas of the water for fish? This fish was so large that it could easily be conceivable these large fish were fed farm raised bait. You(and along with everybody else unless you were on the water in GA at this time) have ZERO evidence of weather or not this happened. So, by your standards, every record fish caught could conceivably be caught "cheating". If that's the case, stop fishing.
  5. I use the fj1000 for shakey heads. No issues.
  6. Kvds arw offered in both silent and rattling. Each has a time and place.
  7. rage craw, paca craw and subwoofer are really all i use on swim jigs.
  8. Senko rod. You fish it a lot so having something you really like makes more sense. Dx743 is a fantstic weightless senko rod
  9. perhaps you got very unlucky with multiple bad spools or you are having some serious backlash issues. i've used abrazX with no issues and currently use sniper on a few of my reels. I dind't/don't have any random break offs with either line. i really like sniper.
  10. i'd go /w the savvy then if that's all you are using it for. you can get them for around 130$ during the presidents day sales.
  11. Savvy is not a very sensitive line of rods. I really like them for swim jigs, spinnerbaits and frogs. Really anything moving. They are a very well built rod for the techniques i listed but arent ideal for bottom contact baits. Stick with the champ or champ extreme for feel presentations. If money is tight either save it up or try a less expensive line of rods you have wanted to.
  12. Even with musky in your water, id still use 10-15# braid with a 2500 reel. It wont break as long as it doeant fray. Just add a fluoro leader
  13. Well there are multiple rods in that price and length. Get the model numbers
  14. 6'6 mf 6'8mxf Either will work for both
  15. some people like 30# braid and some people like 12-17# mono. try each as they both fish differently. you can't go wrong if your line floats.
  16. i used that blue trilene XL for topwater and cranks for a long time. you'll be fine.
  17. TW usually has their presidents day sale around the 16th of Feb. each year. I'd bet BTD will follow suit as well.
  18. glad to hear you like it. i still have to wait until Wednesday for a couple rods to come in.
  19. about the only technique i use braid /w is frogs. good ol' 65# PP does the trick.
  20. i like that bait as well. it does get hard to find, even at cabelas. my favorite is the KaRu Vibrashock in 3/8.
  21. hooligan is selling a curado G6 for 85$ in the market place. jump on that if you want a shimano.
  22. Throwing a jig into half submerged brush and wrestling a fish out.
  23. kvd just killing it....
