This has been brought up in threads before. But to save money on line, fill your reel up atleast half way with cheap monouse double unlknot, an finish filling reel with the good stuff.

Question? What is stupid money ?? Are the new rods&reels today made better, than an 80s model? Some yes, but most no. I can do pretty much anything with my 4600s&5500s ive had for up to 25 years. New and improved isnt always better, and does not make a better fisherman. To the OP, id like to see a list also of the rod and reels. You can also try selling them in the fleamarket section here. If you learned the spinning reel, you can definately learn a baitcaster. It will take practice,but youll get it. Just dont get too frustrated. I learned on a abu garcia 4600 round, that was given to me used. So you dont need a expensive one to start. An ABU GARCIA BLACK MAX will be just fine to learn on, and wont cost a arm&leg.. As far as a sturdy spincast ZEBCO OMEGAS, but cost more than black max. Good luck

I really like brass wieghts. Less likely to damage line, provide better sound than lead when used with glass bead. Havent noticed any ill effects of the brass color either. They are cheaper than tungsten too.
