  1. It's a beefy rod and not the best for walking. First and foremost, if you're using braid that's going to be your first obstacle. Braid is so limp that you only need to pop your rod about half as much as you would with a mono line walking the dog. It can be challenging even for very experienced anglers. Some times just a jerky retrieve and no rod action can give you that walk effect. Practice makes perfect. I have 2 Mojo's in the MH/F (Spinnerbait) which are actually 2 of my frog rods. I find them to be perfect for 95% of my frog fishing needs. Not that you can't use what you have because you certainly can, but a lot of it is because your particular rod is pretty stiff. You can still get bit not walking a frog as well. Walking a frog to me is highly over rated and I fish a ton of slop and ideal frog conditions. Casting the frog into the right locations with great accuracy is far more important in my eyes. If you chug that frog along in the right spot, they'll eat it. Walking is great for out in the open or in the alley ways of the weeds. In those areas, i'd rather throw a spook or sammy. Having 2 rods rigged is a bonus if you have that luxury.
  2. Awesome outing! Way to get them!
  3. Nice fish and great report!
  4. Nicely done Mike. Nice Ski to add to the mix!
  5. Amazing smallie!
  6. Some reports here for Grindstone, but not a lot. http://lake-link.com/Wisconsin-Fishing-Reports/report.cfm/1919/Grindstone-Lake-Sawyer-County/
  7. They asked me. I declined to keep the competition level equal.
  8. Original photo has an extreme fish eye lens much like a GoPro does. Very well could be only 25-30 lbs the way he's holding it to the camera and the lens. Impossible to tell off that picture. Neat fish though.
  9. Way to score those brownie points! Bass pro service has always been great to me. I shop there on occasion, usually just the spring sales.
  10. Awesome Speed! Beast of a fish!
  11. get that rod man. Its worth every penny. Ill be expanding in the Champ and DX line. Just awesome rods.
  12. I use the same rod with no issues and braid in the 50-65# range. Maybe give it a harder hook set. Mine are pretty aggressive.
  13. This will be my collective thread of 2014 fishing reports, videos and pictures. Thanks for looking. I fished the Wisconsin opener on 5/3/14. Despite battling a 100 degree fever and flu symptoms, we made it out and had a heck of a day on the water. It was windy (what else is new) and still on the cool side with about a 50 degree air temp. Water was consistently 48-50 between Saturday and Sunday. Water was slightly stained and weed growth was down considerably. The key to finding fish was the greenest vegetation in the main lake. We only caught a few off the shore line so most of our efforts were focused in the middle over the top of fresh green. Fish were still in prespawn and had landed a number of females full of eggs. On Saturday alone we boated over 35 fish with a few of them being pike and crappie but mostly all bass. My brother and I both landed fish just under 5lbs each . All in all, good fishing, good times and great to be out on the water again. My first fish came within the first 10 minutes on Saturday casting a KVD 1.5 in Bluegill on a Chronarch Ci4+ and a Dobyns 705cb glass. This was the first time using this setup as I had acquired it during the winter months. Man, what an amazing set up! The reel casts like a dream and is smooth as silk. The Dobyns glass rod is absolutely perfect for squarebills and shallow cranks. I don't believe I lost 1 fish the entire weekend on that rod and I even threw lipless cranks with it as well. By far one of my top 3 favorite rods that I own. I was also catching fish on a KVD J300 jerkbait in Ayu and Sexy Shad. I'm not a great hard jerkbait fisherman but had a ton of fun catching a few on that bait. The most productive/dominating bait of the weekend was the Siebert Outdoors Fogy (chatterbait) in Bluegill paired with a Green Pumpkin/Purple and Gold flake menace trailer with a coating of Megastrike. I was throwing this bait on my 7'1 MH/F Rage rod with a Ch 50e and Yo Zuri 12#. The bass were HAMMERING this bait. The bait comes through weeds really well and I was able to control my depth quite easily. There were a few spots of early sprouting lily pads under the surface that I would run the bait through and just get annihilated. It didn't take me long to forget about that flu I was carrying. I also played around with my Core 100mg7 and DX745 with a Siebert Dredge Jig in Fry color paired with a June bug Rage craw. Unfortunately, not a big jig bite for me this weekend and the only fish I picked up on it spit my hook on the first breach. The combo itself is magical and just fishing it I was in awe. I have quickly taking a very big liking to Dobyns rods just in one outing. This rod will be put to use a lot this year. GoPro users read this: Now for the bad.......... I had about 16-20 fish recorded on my GoPro for the entire day of Saturday. All was good until Sunday morning I went to start the camera only to get a "No SD" card reading. I was panicked so I checked my other card which was fine and batteries which all worked. Come to find out, the Scan Disk Micro SD XC1 64gb is known to fail in time, especially within a GoPro camera. Why GoPro promotes this card with so many recorded failures on the internet (i'm now aware of after reading extensively) is mind boggling to me. I have used this card for an entire season with no problems until this trip and now the card is toast. Expensive little card to just up and fail like it did. I will never buy that brand again and if you own one, please tread carefully when using yours. I lost a lot of great footage that I was really looking forward to compiling for everyone to watch. Thankfully my brother had his digital camera to at least get stills of most of the fish we caught.
  14. Congrats Jeff! What an accomplishment!
  15. It was just light humor as is much of the non-fishing content here on Bass Resource. I do apologize and I will delete my post. I could definitely sit down and have the debate on this subject but will refrain from doing so if the believers aren't willing. Carry on.
  16. We can clone animals and human organs. We have found evidence of water on Mars. We have flown to the moon. (or have we?) We have sattelites traveling thousands of miles in space. We can separate siamese twins. We discover microscopic marine species all the time. We have found dinosaur fossils 100's of feet in the earth. Mysteriously we can't find a 7 foot giant creature or it's remains that are being reported all over the US from one corner to the next. Sorry Red, I just don't buy it. Bobo and his squatch calling is all about $$$$. Same goes for Mermaids, nessy, the skunk ape, and all the other urban legends on TV. It's entertainment just like WWE wrestling. I feel bad for the people that take it serious and not as entertainment. I apologize if my GIF offended you, I meant no harm.
  17. These will land you a few bigguns..... U2 Gill from Mattlures. Siebert Outdoors is now selling them.
  18. On top of that, I like a wide wobble crank that will displace a lot of water. I would agree on most of the color choices stated already, lots of good info so far.
  19. http://www.overstockbait.com/Power-Pro-Super-Slick-p/31100300150a.htm ^^^ If that's not hi-vis blue I don't know what is. Either way, I've caught enough fish in ultra clear water with braid to know it's not a deal breaker. I absolutely believe in ultra clear water a smaller diameter/less visible line is or can be helpful but not a must. At the end of the day, if you plop a bait in front of a fish, it's going to zone in on that bait and decide if it wants to eat or not. Line color and visibility is on the bottom of the totem pole for importance when I fish as I find other factors to be much more important.
  20. I have the one with the LED light. Extra bonus for low light or night time fishing!
  21. good to know. Thanks for correcting
  22. your uncle is correct. No free launches either.
