Your difference is because you have a Medium action and a Medium Heavy action. From my understanding the Veritas rods are a bit on the stiff side.I cant confirm that because I've never used one, but more than likely the guides are not the issue.

Update on this. I had to write an email to BTD 2 days later because they failed to create the call-tag for UPS to pick up the broken rod. That rod is still in transit to California from Illinois. They didn't even bother emailing me back, at least with an update to the situation. Lack of customer service from any company leaves a bad taste in my mouth. This will be my first and last order from them. The only reason I didn't cancel the order all together was because I got $20 off a St.Croix rod, and it's hard to find Croix's discounted. With my luck, they'll email me saying they don't even have a replacement for it.

Your trailer is going to make more of a difference in my opinion. Rod you spoke of will skip jigs fine. Its how good your thumb is assuming youre talking about a baitcaster.
