  1. The rods are 7'6" flipping rods . The reels are spooled with 15 lb Big Game . I'm using 1 ounce no-roll sinkers a swivel and about a foot leader . Its March , the water is high cold and muddy .I'm baited with night crawlers where a creek dumps into a river creating an eddy . A perfect place for all kinds of fish to feed . I catch channel cats , carp , buffalo , drum , suckers and even smallmouths and largemouths there . One picture I'm using rod holders to keep the combos from being pulled in . The other photo I must have forgot the rod holders and whittled a couple of forked sticks .
  2. My Avatar is the earliest picture of me fishing . Caught these on a cane pole and worms out of a cousins farm pond .
  3. Bluegills are a riot to catch on a fly rod . Your son maybe too young to use one but if you had a light weight model something he could flip out there 15 foot , he will have a blast .
  4. You didnt say if they were fishing for bass or just fishing with live/prepared bait . I'm guessing they were tight lining . A person naturally gets up and do other things while waiting for a bite . I enjoy doing it , the simplest way to fish .
  5. Once upon a time somebody said bass could only remember for fifteen minutes and it has been repeated ever since like it is fact .
  6. Its been about 10 years for me . I had it removed . Last year I had a mass removed from my bladder that every one thought was cancer but luckily it wasnt . Had me sweating bullets .
  7. Thousands of things happen to us every day . Every once in awhile something happens and the odds astronomical . An event happened at our house that Mom and Dad thinks was the work of a super natural being. I think it was just one of those things .
  8. Heres a list of places I have caught 6 lb plus bass on a 200 acre lake I frequent . :steep banks ;Flat banks : Points : rip rap : vegetation :Laydowns : Beaver houses : man made brush piles : stumps : standing timber : creeks : culverts Pretty much everywhere . As long as I'm fishing in cover and//or structure i have a decent chance of catching one .
  9. Riverside made a 5.5 inch one called the Big Claw . I have a bunch of them .
  10. I like to texas rig them for river Smallmouths .
  11. I picked up a rod from Gander Mountain , the Lady Guide series . Its in my starting lineup .
  12. I hope anyone but KVD wins it , then have Clunn win it next year to be the five time world heavyweight champ .
  13. I have had really good luck on Bomber lures in General .
  14. Look for the steeper banks Especially if they are facing the sun .
  15. My favorite way of throwing rattletraps and other lipless baits is to hop them off the bottom .When bass are fired up they will smack it hard enough that you can hear the hit .
  16. Dont know about New England but here craws come in a lot of colors . I have used a lot of colors and they all have worked . Black/blue , black/chartreuse , browns , greens , purples. For smallmouths I like lures with long skinny antennae for largemouth they all work .
  17. I would do that but my depth finder is an old Eagle Fishmark that I converted to a portable unit and I do not own a smart phone . I do give the edges more attention but the flat itself , I try to fish it quickly unless a fish is caught or a stump is found . Then I fish that area more thoroughly . Everybody made good suggestions .
  18. The ones on their crankbaits are the sharpest I ever used . They are scary sharp , stick to my fingers like velcro . I stuck myself with them the past two years . I only stuck myself once the previous fifty .
  19. They are the sharpest things I ever used . You just touch them and they attach to your fingers like velcro . In over 40 years of fishing I have buried a hook past the barb three times . Twice was on the fusion hooks . They are nasty.
  20. Sloths dont chase laser pointers ? i did not know that .
  21. The vegetation along in the shallows is what is commonly known as skunk weed and impossible to fish with any lure that has dangling trebels . I fish it mainly with buzzbaits or spinnerbaits and catch small bass . The bigger fish have come deeper . I'm probably fishing it correctly . Thanks for all the replies .
  22. If bright colored clothing alert's carp of your presence and it does then why not bass ?
  23. Does this look like the weed you are dealing with ?
  24. Depending on the day I sometimes fish it shallow I have trolled it before and I catch a lot of channel cats LOL. There are a few stumps and I usually find one while trolling . If i do see one I toss a buoy and fish it . They are usualy good for one fish . Year to year . Last year was a weedy year and I fished it shallow a lot.
  25. A lake i frequent is a trolling motor only lake , so I pretty much fish my way from spot to spot . In between two creek arms is a large flat . Other than the drop-offs where at the junction of the creek arms there is no obvious structure changes . I usually find the depth most of the bait-fish are at and follow that contour quickly using either a crankbait or Carolina rig . I have caught two large bass , one on both mentioned baits but those came several years back .Recent years I just pick up a few small ones . Who has some good techniques for fishing featureless flats ? I have to troll over it any way , might as well fish it .
