  1. My last interesting piece was half a Barber quarter . Click on the photo and it will take you to my photobucket page and you can see a lot of the better stuff I found .
  2. As long as the ground is not frozen I'll do some serious metal detecting in the woods because the vegetation is dead .
  3. Sissy ! Afraid of a little bass thumb , are ya ?
  4. This is a great screen shot .You can see the mass of " I presume shad" moving , trying to avoid the bass . Now what do you think is on the far left ? Bass on the bottom or cover ?
  5. I googled the error message because I was confused by it .
  6. My Grampaw had a magic dancing bobber . It would dance up and down , while mine just sat there . LOL. I didnt realize that he was doing it . When I would peek he was holding everything still , then look at the bobber and it would dance .
  7. I'm not a walleye expert and usually dont target them specifically but catch a few every year when targeting other fish. I have caught walleyes that didnt fight and some that gave a heck of a struggle . One day many years ago I got on a rock point pattern and the Eyes were slamming a Manns Razorback Pig . Those fish fought extremely hard .
  8. Jigs and a sentimental favorite of mine are cheap marabous . Yellow ones and white with a pink head work real well . The feathers I believe are usually a little long so I cut them back a bit . They just have a subtle action that works real well when the crappie are shallow and feeding by sight . A killer combo is a marabou jig and Mister Twister trailer . When I was a boy the marabou jig were the only artificial lures I owned for fishing the Mississippi river and its back waters . I supplied supper for the family many times with them .
  9. They are so prevalent on my local reservoir that they should to be taken advantage of . They are also fun to catch . Generally the giant schools will be deeper on the flats and there will be other species mixed in . I catch lots of catfish and an occasional walleye but hardly never crappie or largemouths . They save my day many times . No one in my family likes them though . I think they are "nasty " too . I'm going to try different recipes and ways to cook them . I roasted one on a stick over an open fire one day when I was tight-lining on a small river and it was pretty dang good .
  10. I catch a boatload of bass and then hear others complain that they cant catch bass on that lake . I'm having a lot more fun than them .
  11. I have never done this.
  12. If your willing to fish 8 hours and get skunked then cant wait to go out and do it again, then you have the dedication . There is no way we can tell you what you are doing wrong . Just pay attention to everything and just dont tie a bait on without a reason . Ask yourself what you want a lure to do in the conditions you are faced with .Then choose a bait accordingly. Dont just make a cast without a reason . Every cast should have a purpose . When you do start getting more consistent it will be easier to connect the dots when you fish with purpose . I dont pay much attention to what everyone else is throwing , I try to pick the right tool for the job .
  13. I'm a bargain bin diver . I'd say my best find were green Gammy octopus hooks . I think they were .50 cents a pack . Those are a critical component in my carp rigs .
  14. Its really a tough decision to make . Three years ago I had a complete distal bicep tendon rupture . I elected to have it repaired . No lifting anything heavier than a coffee cup for three months . Then slowly start lifting heavier objects .Luckily it happened in the fall so I didnt miss out on too much fishing . So far so good ..
  15. Looks like a good night time color .
  16. I like pork in cold water . When I started bass fishing the jig and eel was the lure for winter . Then pork frogs became popular . So I fished what I was suppose to fish and it worked .
  17. Anyone remember when Jimmy Houston was hawking sinkers made out of rocks ?
  18. You havent been fishing for very long . Dont get discouraged , you will get more consistent . Enjoy your time fishing .
  19. If I could fish a lot more, I would entertain the idea of purposefully making it tough . I dont get to fish as much as I like so I'm not gong to make it anymore difficult . That doesnt mean that I'm stuck in a rut , I do try new things and places . If I wanted tough fishing I'd visit the Mississippi river under flood conditions .
  20. I dont like the red meat and cut it out and get puny little fillets .I'm going to try different soakings to try and draw that strong unagreeable taste out . I saw one on Youtube where a guy soaks them in water and lemon / lime juice and he states they come out real well .
  21. Not me . I try to pick my days and spots to catch the maximum amount of fish .
  22. I dont fish winter much . I winterize the boat . There was a time I did fish more and caught some real beast . I like stable sunny weather . Fish in the afternoon on steep sunny banks . The lure I had the most success with was an arbogast mudbug , parallel casting the banks and reeling agonizingly slow . I caught some of my biggest bass that way .
  23. He was a big influence on me .At the end of every show he would demonstrate how he worked that particular bait in an aquarium . He hopped everything .LOL . I fish the same way
  24. Soft plastics by far . Hard baits it would be crankbaits .
